  • Please clarify: The science of fructose?

    Is the following scientifically accurate.

Fruit is digested, the fructose is directed straight to the liver where it is converted into triglycerides and stored in adipose cells. All the remaining constituents of the digested fruit (vitamins and minerals) undergo separate processes.

What I am trying to ascertain is whether there are other cellular uses of the fructose prior to conversion, or whether it is stored in it's entirety?

    Thanks in advance,

Apparently, fructose can be useful when one is glycogen depleted.

There's a video on YouTube entitled "Sugar, the Bitter Truth". It's 1.5 hours but the speaker goes into tremendous scientific details about fructose. I am not sure he answers your question directly, but it is a striking video.

Thanks for those reponses. The video appears to answer the question.

It indicates that a figure of around 30% of the fructose is converted into fat and the rest being used to replenish liver and muscle glycogen whilst causing a number of negative instances to occur.

All in all, unless you've just ran a marathon, stay away from fructose sources.

There are other, more efficient ways to deplete muscle glycogen without having to run a marathon. Minimizing fructose exposure is definitely a good rule to follow.
