i just took a look at Mark's shopping list, and noticed that cashews are not listed under 'nuts' and that got me thinking...are cashews primal?

are they nuts, or are they more like peanuts? regardless, they are delicious and i'll continue to eat them, but i'm just curious what everyone thinks.

I believe they're technically legumes...I think occasionally they should be ok. The best way to eat them is to make cashew cream...mmmmmmmm. I don't buy them anymore though since they're expensive.

While not technically primal, they don't have the same problems as peanuts and are actually lower in O6 than most nuts.

        I think they're technically seeds.

That being said, they're freakin delicious and I too will continue to eat them.

          Cashew cream, you guys:

          1/2 cup raw cashews, soaked
          1/2 cup almond milk
          1/4 cup coconut oil
          1-2 tablespoons raw honey

Blend/process all until smooth and creamy.

This is from my raw-food days. Eat it and thank me, it's divine

Whoa. I'm going to make this next time I have a special occasion that calls for dessert. I may try subbing coconut milk for the almond milk + coconut oil component.

Let me know how it is with the coconut milk! When I was a raw foodist you would use it to "ice" raw brownies, which are just walnuts, dates, and cocoa powder processed together. Good stuff but too sweet for me. I really just like the cream by itself, even my bf loves the stuff.

Do you soak the cashews in water?

I know they're one of the carbier nuts but they sure are yummy.

Yeah you soak them in enough water to cover for a couple hours to soften them up. This is why you need the raw ones as well, I don't think it'll work with roasted.

I add raw almonds to hot soup to eat them. About 30 seconds is about all it takes to soften them up when the liquid is hot.

Oh yeah? That's an interesting (and quicker) method. Thanks for the tip, bro
