i just wanted to say, i see a fair amount of people around here eating 1300-1500 calories a day and i have NO IDEA how you do it.
i'm 5'5 and about 130 lbs and a usual day for me ranges from 2000-2300 cals.
and i've lost weight in the last month.

i have no idea how you do it. i would be very very cranky.

I eat a bunch of different ranges, but usually end up around 1900. I couldn't be really low cal all the time.

I never track calories. I just eat until i'm not hungry. I write down my daily foods though, and sometimes out of curiousity I'll input a few days' worth into a calorie counter. I generally vary between 1500-2000. That does not include IF'ing.

I don't know if people reporting lower calorie counts are watching their calories and purposely trying to keep them down, or if they're calculating them after the fact like I do. I would be interested to know.

I do think that IF'ing very often (more than 1x a week or so) is not a good idea. But that's just me.

I have no idea, either. I usually eat about 2000-2300 calories, too. This is not supposed to be a low calorie diet. I'm done with that. I don't want to slow down my metabolism again.

I think the people eating super low cal are the ones closer to low carb, VLC, etc. I imagine it's got something to do with the suppressed hunger. When I was closer to VLC (eating only green veggies, and meat, nothing but) I was probably eating around that range, probably a little higher due to eating a lot of eggs and meat, but I would usually get by on one meal broken down into two helpings. It was kind of far from healthy I'd say, even if I was eating primal, I was scared of carbs so I would even worry about eating carrots or something. I think this is wrong, but at the time it helped me lose weight. Now that I'm more comfortable with my weight I do eat more carbs and more in general.

I think also the less you do the less you need to eat, and the inverse is true as well so maybe people that are eating less are also doing a lot less so they either don't feel as hungry or don't feel they need to eat as much.

Calorie requirements are unique to individuals. I'm both post-menopausal and hypothyroid, and I won't even mention my calorie level because it's lower than 1300. But I'm totally satisfied on what I eat; my body just doesn't require any more food.

When I realized I was eating so little, I spoke to my endo, and he agreed that my impaired metabolism requires much less food than most people.

I never talk about my calorie level because I believe I'm in a unique situation, but most of those calculators that tell you how many calories you should be eating should be looked at with skepticism. There is much more involved in how you burn calories than simply height and weight.

I feel really good on 1500 (occasionally fewer) calories while I am dropping my last few pounds of fat. As Iniquity said eating vlc (I'm eating ~30 g of net carbs daily) keeps one's appetite lower--more accurate is that the more carbs I eat, the more I want to eat.

I think age/activity level can make a big difference. I'm 48 and a lot less active than I was when I was 28. However, I feel as fit and actually am healthier now than I was then. Sufficient Vitamin D and minerals along with really clean, real food (grassfed local beef, etc.) is making a big difference for me. Dropping chronic cardio and doing PB Fitness. Definitely a matter of quality over quantity for both food and exercise, for me!

Oh--and I calculate my calories after the fact.
I IF about 16 hours from 5pm to 9 am most days.

I lost weight the CW way by eating 1200 cals for a year. I guess I'm used to it, and eating more is a challenge. A delicious challenge, but still something to work toward nonetheless.

Some days I'm at 1100, but other days I'm at 2000. Depends if I accidentally IF or not.

i can't eat low cal on a regular basis. i do have days where i prolly wont go over 1000, and i have days where like i said i eat about 2200
i just could never stick to anything that low long term
whatever people are comfortable with is great im just saying i couldn't do it.
i ate way less cals eating veg, vegan, CW, whatever.
i like to be able to eat a lot though i sometimes wish i could be satisfied on less as it would be cheaper.

I average between 1000 and 1300 calories a day. If I eat more I feel like I'm stuffing myself sick !

I eat on average 1500 calories a day. Any more and I'll gain weight. I have no pituitary function so comparing my self to any one else here is pointless. I've been eating this way a long time.

I've been eating between 1100-1600 calories/day. Been logging to keep track of my carbs... So far I don't feel any deprivation and I seem to have slimmed down (havent weighed myself yet... ). I'll probably stop logging once I feel that i have a good idea where i need to cut back/add.
