  • Are nuts and seeds the same?

When people here are trying to get over plateaus and cut out nuts does that also count seeds? Are cashews and almonds the same as pumpkin and sunflower seeds in terms of what may need to be avoided?

Most people treat nuts and seeds the same, from what I see. Each one has different Omega 3:6 ratios, though. In general, it's easier to eat a whole lot of calories of almond butter, or handfuls of cashes, for example, and skew your calorie intake.

Seeds don't think the world will end in 2012. :-)

You can make sesame seed butter and sunflower seed butter much like you would with nuts. I heard from a friend recently who has been eating sunflower seed butter like crazy because she said it is so good.

I only cut out nuts, I don't overeat on seeds so I don't worry about them.

Nuts and seeds can be just as problematic as grains and legumes. Unless you're soaking or sprouting them, I'd say it's best to use them in small quantities.

Seeds aren't the same as grains because seeds can be eaten and digested without cooking. For example the seeds on a strawberry or the inside of a pear stone.
