    Well, those are fairly broad bands "50 g to 100 g" for "effortless weight loss" means the top of the range is twice the bottom. Anyway, this is only one person's opinion at one time - although Mark's opinion is likely to better than most, and may not have changed since he wrote that page. Besides, while people like to focus on "macronutrients", maybe it's more important to make sure you get enough micronutrients (vitamins and minerals).

    FWIW, if secret agent boy were eating around 2,600 calories a day, which is average for a fully grown male (unless he's digging ditches all day or something) and that included around 75 g of carbs, then that's going to be around 10 or 12 % of his calorific intake.

    As a percentage most people eating in the primal style are probably eating something like 10% to 20% of their calories as carbohydrate. You could go nearer the bottom of that percentage, or even a bit less, if weight loss was a major consideration.

      I have tinkered and found what works for me. Mark recommends a range, depending on your goals, not a specific number.
      Since most folks aren't counting calories, he doesn't recommend a percentage.

        I try to stay at 50 & under each day, and that's usually 10-19% on average.

          carb requirements will vary enormously according to gender, age, bodyweight (and % of that being muscle mass), activity levels, insulin sensitivity, dietary goals (is this a shorter term weight loss diet or long term lifestyle changes) and so on and so on. there's no way you can give a blanket number for everyone.

          if you're just eating to improve your health and eating habits then WHAT carbs you eat is much more important than how many, at least to start with.

            Personally I think the easiest way to learn how much is enough is to track everything you eat. Check out www.dailyburn.com. It can tell you percentages & stuff of what you eat and has a well rounded user entered food database, as well as USDA measurements.
