  • Weight Down but Body Fat Up?

I'm still doing everything right, right? I've dropped 3 lbs on the scale this week, but my body fat is up 2%. I hope it's just my body adjusting. Just kind of nerve wracking to see the body fat creeping up when I want it to go down more than the weight numbers.

Don't use the scale or do a full body look in the mirror for 60 days.
Follow the nutrition and strentgh train, sprint, stretch for exercise.

You will be amazed at the results

Probably as you drop water weight, the body fat becomes a relatively higher percentage of your overall weight. Highly doubtful that you gained fat.

Let's hope not. I've been thirstier lately, so hopefully that's it, but I've been weighing myself right after first BM of morning. I thought the water weight thing was over & done with when I dropped my first 10 lbs in 09. I guess maybe now carb retained water is leaving now?

Yep, when you use a BF% scale, it really depends on if you are properly hydrated or not. After I have a good muscle workout, I tend to retain water, and my BF% goes up. Also, your BF% can vary through the day, from morning to evening it can fluctuate about 4% easy.

I really don't think they are all that accurate.

Yeah, I went to gym yesterday. Did weights and treadmill. Always try to make sure I drink enough water though. Thanks for your reassurance.

I'm also not sure how accurate those body fat scales are. It is like the blood pressure machines in Walmart, Walgreens etc. which can vary based seemingly on the position of the moon, the day of the week, and if the Cubs are having a winning season.

I would caution you not to get obsessed with your numbers on a daily basis (I had this problem for a while - borderline narcissistic tendency, constantly looking in the mirror, etc.) They will fluxuate depending on what you ate, what you did previously, etc. Even if you step up on the bad-news machine in the AM, if you had a big dinner...you get the point.

Definitely agree with the 60 day thing. Give it two months, stay as primal as you can, and reassess then. Until then, keep banging away.

Hey Doc! Here are the measures I would recommend instead of weight and BF.

Do my pants pull on more easily?
Am I lifting heavier things than I used to?
Is it getting easier to move through the world (e.g., put on my shoes, stand up from a seated position, get in and out of my car, wash my hair)?
Am I less winded after I climb the stairs?
Am I starting to win more of my tennis matches? (or whatever game you play)
Am I less likely to clutch the towel closely around me after the shower... And more likely to stop and note in the mirror?
Am I hearing the words "Dayam, Girrl!" more often?

                    Those other numbers... So sterile.

                      .

Can I pay you to follow me around and say that?
