  • Fruit when losing

First off, I'm not a big fruit eater as I've never really liked fruit, but I'm beginning to think I need to start eating some fruit to keep myself out of ketosis. I've been in ketsosis I believe the last couple of days as my breath stank and I know a slower weight loss is better for you than a fast one. What are some good ways to help me get more good carbs in so that I still lose but not throw myself into ketosis all the time. I do understand that ketosis is good periodically, just not all the time. Also, I am noticing that I am getting fuller faster. Oh, I forgot to mention that I am insulin resistance and my husband who is doing this with me is a diabetic. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The only squash we eat is spaghetti squash and I eat nuts periodically. Are you think that if we up the amount of veggies we eat, that would help?

there are other things you can try too. an avocado has 14 delicious grams of carbohydrates.
have you plugged in your daily food intake to something like fitday to see how much you are actually eating? that may give you a sense of how to better reach specific nutritional goals.

Not yet. Work blocks it so we all know what that is lol. My husband seems to be doing ok with it, its just myself who's feeling this way.

What's wrong with being in ketosis? if you're insulin resistant it's where you want to be. it doesn't matter how fast you lose weight. I lost three stone (42 lbs) in two months before and kept it off. You need to deal with insulin resistance quickly to prevent it turning into something worse. Avoid fruit for now.

The taste in my mouth kills me. I've brushed my teeth 12 times since Tuesday to kill the taste and nothing seems to help. I'm always worried about someone saying breath stinks when I've never had issues with that in the past. Maybe that's just psychological, who knows. Do most people have trouble sleeping when they are initially in ketosis and does that go away?

I can't answer the part about having trouble sleeping, but just add avocado and sweet potato...no need to add fruit....and those two alone should give you enough carbs.

Who says? There's no evidence that being in ketosis all the time is in any way harmful, or that losing weight faster (when in ketosis) is somehow damaging. This is CW - toss it out.

The smell goes away over time as your body adjusts. The sleeping thing - yes, that's true. When someone is in early ketosis they often have a reduced amount of sleep per night - but it's better sleep and more refreshing, in my experience.

Eh, you'll get used to it. I'm not a big fan of the taste, but at least I know it's a good thing. Personally, I don't think eating a piece of fruit a day could do anyone wrong, but as mentioned, avocado is basically the greatest food on the planet.

I didnt like being in ketosis as well. The only fruit I can take and still loose is grapefruit. It's very healthy and recommended even on standard diets. I drink it as a smoothie, with coconut milk. Very fulfilling and for me, it just replaces one meal.

I do understand that ketosis is a good thing, just the whole taste think bugs the crap out of me. Does it ever just go away?

                            Over time, it should.

I eat one serving of fruit with each meal (probably roughly 25g of total carbs). You could also do the equivalent amount of sweet potato.
