  • Skipping Breakfast

I am familiar with IF, but am curious whether
skipping breakfast several times per week is advisable.
On mornings when I do not work out, I have a cup
of black coffee or two and do not feel hungry
until noon but I can't get the CW voice in
my head to "eat my breakfast" to knock it off.

On mornings when I exercise, I am hungry
    and I certainly eat breakfast.

    Thoughts?

It's not advisable if you listen to CW, no. But as you've probably guessed by now, the vast majority of CW wisdom is bollocks. If you wake up hungry, by all means have breakfast. I did today. It'll probably be a week or so before I have breakfast again (or rather, I have breakfast combined with lunch - a large meal around 2pm, then dinner around 7-8pm). I'm not dead or malnourished yet.

I haven't eaten anything before noon in months; and I have put on some LBM.
My whole life, I've felt like an animal......but I've ignored my instincts. I ignored what I really am. That will never happen again.

i eat breakfast at least 10 hours after i wake up. there's not harm in skipping breakfast at all. in fact, it's good for you. obey your hunger.

            others. Thanks.

I don't eat breakfast mon-friday because it's convenient for me. Just a cup of coffee and I'm off to work. Saturdays and Sundays I have breakfast, usually on the massive side. My Sunday family breakfasts are pretty legendary, can't miss those.

I don't usually eat before noon. I do have my tea with cream, though.

Breakfast is the first meal I eat. Granted, I usually eat it after being up for abt 6hrs and call it "lunch," but hey, I'm still technically breaking my fast.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, steak in one hand, chocolate in the other, yelling "Holy F***, What a Ride!"

I don't eat lunch till about 1.30pm and have been that way for years. Even when a child I disliked breakfast. According to CW I should have no energy to get through the day but I go to the gym at 11.30 and do a crossfit type of workout and a heavy day each week.

I always get some Special K in me before training.

I hardly ever eat breakfast. I'm just never hungry in the mornings. Too much hassle anyway, making lunch for the kids, etc.

Posted in a blog at the New York Times:

Phys Ed: The Benefits of Exercising Before Breakfast

. . . a new study published in The Journal of Physiology suggests a more reliable and far simpler response. Run or bicycle before breakfast. Exercising in the morning, before eating, the study results show, seems to significantly lessen the ill effects of holiday Bacchanalias.

Liza: I meant to post that link when I read the article last night, but forgot. Thank you! I think more than anything it shows that fasted training is actually a pretty good idea. You can tell that the author has some CW leanings though; calling a diet where 50% of cals are from fat miserable, and saying that early morning is the only time that you can be in the fasted state. Anyway, I guess it's still progress.
