  • What new foods are you cooking/eating/trying?

    Tonight I am cooking some lamb. I have eaten lamb only in a lunch meat type thing and once before at a really tasty mid-eastern restaurant. I have never cooked it.

    I'll let you know how it turns out but here is the recipe.

    Lamb with sweet red peppers

    2 T olive oil
    1 pound lamb, cut into 1 1/2 inch chunks
    2 cloves garlic, chopped
    1/2 t ground black pepper
    1 C water
    1/2 t (more) ground black pepper
    1 sweet red pepper (I'm using a yellow), cut into 1 1/2 inch chunks
    3 T fresh parsley, chopped
    salt to taste

    Heat the oil in a pan with a lid, season the lamp with 1/2 t pepper and brown on all sides (3-5 minutes)
    Add the garlic, remaining pepper, salt and water
    Bring to a boil and then lower heat to medium. Simmer partly covered for 30 minutes.
    Uncover and cook 10 minutes longer or until lamb is fork tender.
    Add parsley and peppers to the pan.
    Cook until peppers soften.

    I'll report back on how good (or not) it is!

    I'm making my own beef broth right now, for the first time. I'm so in love with the slow-cooker chicken broth and hoping for the same success using beef bones. Another 12 hours till I find out!

      Slow cookers are SO awesome. I really don't use mine enough.


      And the update on the Lamb is....... TASTY!
      I decided I needed more veggies and to NOT eat the entire pound of meat so I chopped up some lettuce and cabbage and ate the lamb and peppers on top. VERY tasty. It's official I like lamb! (easy recipe too, mostly you just hang out and smell it while it cooks. not much fiddling needed)

        I bought some rabbit/quail last week (I cooked the rabbit yesterday). I liked it. Today, I tried some goat cheese. Liked it too. Yea....since going Primal, I been eating so many new vegetables and meat. It such a adventurous lifestyle....lol.

          The organic food coop has an amazing collection of apple varieties this fall. I am trying ones I've never heard of. Also, today, they had chickweed by the lb for a salad green. Trying that, too.

            I'm doing some re-visiting of some foods I wasn't pleased with the 1st time around. Tonight I finally had success in roasted mashed cauliflower. Divine! Tomorrow I will make spaghetti squash.

              I am too, I have never been a fan of certain foods so now that I've gone paleo I've decided to give them a second chance. the other day I had taco salad and had tomatoes and avocados, never been a fan but I also haven't had them in a REALLY long time. I tried them and i didn't think they were the best thing am am willing to try again. Especially the avocados because of how nutrient rich they are. And asparagus is on that list as well to try again.

                I threw a parsnip into my curry the other day. It totally worked. I'd never even tried it before (freaky-looking white carrot!), but it turns out I like parsnip.

                  I found the full fat Fage and I have to say I don't see what the big deal is. Too smooth, it's missing that yogurt "tang".
                  Wheat is the new tobacco. Spread the word.

                    Lamb, bison, duck, sardines, full fat fage.
                    All have become staples of my diet, I dont think I ate any before PB.

                      I don't like it either. But then, some people think my beloved almond butter tastes rancid! The nerve!

                        Almond butter and hazlenut butter are 2 biggies. Strawberries dipped in hazlenut butter have the same decadent texture as chocolate dipped strawberries.

                          Oooh...I haven't tried hazelnut butter, yet.
                          I should add other things I've tried since going primal: all kinds of nuts (brazil nuts = gross, cashews = fantastic), sardines (meh, whatever), anchovies (yum!), nut butters (nice!), coconut milk (yum!). All are part of my new life. And a new yummy life it is.

                            I have tried (and like!) squash of all kinds, liver, lamb, and almond butter. I am going to try tilapia again this weekend, the first time I had it I threw it away it was so bad. But hopefully I will like it this time.

                              I have found that brussels sprouts are delightful! I almost prefer them a bit undercooked though.
