I avoid it...butter is just another man-made food product as far as I am concerned.

My opinion is that at some point I'd rather go ahead and die. Let's not forget mental health as part of optimal living. Also, it takes much more evidence than this to stop me from eating any minimally processed food.

      Please pass the butter.

ya know, as i read, and i learn. it all comes down to YOU. what i mean, you KNWO WHAT IT MEANS TO BE PRIMAL. that is step one. how far you take it is up to you. butter is going to effect you as much as you are led to believe it will. how has butter benefitted you up until you read that stupid post??

same with dairy. how did dairy effect YOU before you read 50 people wanting to cut it

and nuts(a NATURAL source of good 06) before you read you were supposed to be afraid of omega 6

lets not forget nightshades and potatos....and fructose in fruit

the arguments and opinions will go on forever. see what i mean? take everything you read with a grain of salt. the foundation of primal is REAL food, go with that and find what works FOR YOU!

He's always been against butter. I don't understand his POV really... he's accepted the evidence that white flour, sugar and a high-carb diet are harmful, but he's still extremely anti-animal-fat.

That post makes me a sad panda. Just for shits and giggles I might try an elimination trial period with butter sometime in the future. I'm sure I'll make a post about it if I manage to summon enough motivation to give up my Kerrygold.

He can't have my butter. I do find I use less of it as I tend to prefer coconut oil, but I still use probably 5-8 tbsp/week. Interesting points in the article, though I need to do some reading up on AGE's before I decide how much stock to put in to his ideas.

I live off grass and gnome-farts, but same difference.

Yeah. Its also worth keeping in mind other tradeoffs. Sure, butter may have more AGEs, but (when pastured) it also has one of the best omega 3:6 ratios among cooking fats. Better than coconut oil and way better than olive oil. Probably better than most animal fats too (aside from grass-fed beef).

So are AGEs of more concern than an unbalanced 3:6 ratio? Honestly, I don't know, but I'm fairly certain there is more hard evidence against the unbalanced omegas at this point.

...."and sales of coconut oil rise...!"

he didn't mention what was a suitable alternative to butter! Hopefully Coconut oil is okay before we over-consume that and find out it's bad *eyeroll*

I am NOT a dairy fan, in fact the opposite, but I think this AGE thing is total BS. Why? Check the list of low AGE foods. Yup, you'd be eating lots of grains, low fat, some fruits and veggies, and no meat.

Here is a list I found online.

                              http://inhumanexperiment.blogspot.co...-of-foods.html

                              Selections, amounts 'per serving'
                              Fats
                              Almonds - 1995
                              Peanut butter - 2255
                              Imitation mayonnaise (!) - 10
                              Salad dressing, lite - 0

                              Proteins
                              Roast beef - 5464
                              Chicken breast - 5510
                              Tofu - 3696

                              Grains, veggies
                              Instant oatmeal, 4
                              White rice, 10
                              Sweet potato, 72
                              Broccoli, 226

                              Junk
                              Sugar, 0
                              Honey, 1
                              Corn syrup, 0

So roast beef gets one of the highest AGE values (that's a bad thing), white rice is considered better than sweet potatoes in this list, imitation mayonnaise (what is that?) better than almonds, and sugar won't cause any problems at all. Really. So frankly I don't care where butter falls in this list, but that doesn't mean I am going to eat it.
