I was thinking of ways to graciously eat all the fat in my plate (particularly in public). It pains me to add some butter to vegetables, for example, and then find that 70% of it goes to the bottom. What a waste...

Anyone has any ideas to retrieve most of the fat in a gracious fashion?

Licking the plate in public is probably a no-no.

    Use a straw?

Hahaha I was also going to suggest a straw.

Unfortunately the most accepted method of fat-retrieval is to sop it up with some bread... that doesn't exactly help us does it?

Eating lots but still hungry? Eat more fat. Mid-day sluggishness? Eat more fat. Feeling depressed or irritable? Eat more fat. People think you've developed an eating disorder? Eat more fat... in front of them.

I was also thinking about the bread. What's to be done...

Perhaps use a small spoon? I love licking my plate but I understand that it should not be done in public....hehee....I often use a spoon to "scrape" the plate.

Eat the veggies first and then sop up the butter with your meat.

I had a similar problem. I went to a school function with my daughter where a sit down diner was served, it was chicken and mashed potatoes and nothing else. I was totally starving and wishing for a salad. Under the mashed potatoes was some sort of leafy green, so I ate it. My daughter was mortified because I eat the garnish. I don't know what the problem was, I guess you aren't supposed to do that.

It's grandma, but you can call me sir.

I totally second grandma. I wipe it up with my meat. Yummy. If you have a fork with sorter tines that can work, too, in some instances but I like the meat way the best. And no one really notices.

You guys are the best! I totally lick my plate at home...especially at breakfast. The bacon grease and egg yolk should not be wasted!!! SS I have good results with the meat too, steak or chicken will do pretty well with sopping up the extra fat. Sometimes I can get most of my yolk sopped up with my egg whites (I almost always cook my eggs over easy).

For my fancy birthday dinner at a french restaurant I caved and used the bread to sop up the extra garlic butter from my escargot, and the extra tomato cream broth from my seafood cassoulet. The stomach cramps the next morning were not worth it, I should have just drank the butter

Gotta admit it, plate cleaning was a good use of bread.

Meat works well. I tend to do that, too.
