  • Primal Breakfasts?

My biggest struggle with primal/paleo nutrition is breakfast.
I'm not at all a fan of meat in the morning (plus I east so much of it the rest of the day anyway).

I can make eggs on occasion.

Lately, I've been doing one of two things:

    1) Flax cakes- like pancakes but made with flax meal, 1 egg, 1/2 banana, blueberries, and a little coconut milk
    2) Smoothie- made with berries, flax seeds, egg, avocado, coconut milk, sometimes 1/2 banana

I'd love to hear new ideas. I don't like having to spend lots of time cooking and preparing in the morning.

    Thanks!

You could always skip breakfast and IF (intermittent fasting) till noon. I know that doesn't help you but it is an option.

Hey BB, I can't skip breakfast, most mornings I wake up hungry and I would be falling apart by 10 a.m. if I did that!

I'm a big fan of almond butter and coconut milk smoothies. Add a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder and a scoop of protein poweder and it will keep you going for hours. This packs a lot of calories so I mess with the mixture depending on when I think I will eat next. I usually drink a serving of Raw Green Super Good as a supplement along with fish oil. I always make mine the night before. You stumped me on the meat thing, I always have bacon or sausage handy.

Also I've been experimenting with Almond Flour pancakes, when I get them right, they are very good.

In a previous incarnation to this world I must have owned a breakfast restaurant. My favorite meal is bk and I would eat it all day of it wasn't socially accepted in my home. Check out my blog for lots of ideas.

                  Me too!!

The funny thing is, I eat pretty much the exact same breakfast every morning. I did that pre-primal too (obviously a different never-changing version, heavily based on oatmeal!) I think I find the ritual of preparing the same thing is a soothing start to my day.

I always start my day like this:
2 rashers of bacon, cut into small pieces and put in a cast iron pan till the fat runs a bit
Add chopped up: 1/2 onion, slice of pepper. Cook till translucent
Add a chopped up tomato and lots of spinach.
Separately, scramble two eggs in butter.
Drink with black tea followed immediately by green tea.

I don't think I could gnaw through a slab of meat first thing, but the little morsels of bacon are just so darned good mixed up with the veggies.
                  Liz.

Zone diet on and off for several years....worked, but too much focus on exact meal composition

If you can handle nuts, you can make a granola with a mixture of nuts ground up slighly, unsweetened coconut, Melt down coconut oil and almond butter together, add cinnamon and pour over mixture to get it to clump up some.

2 cups mixed nuts, fine ground half, course ground other half
                    1 1/2 cup shredded coconut
dried fruit optional---use sparingly to avoid large insulin spikes

                    2 TBL coconut oil
                    2 TBL almond butter
1 TBL honey optional--or other sweetner if you like
(ground up dates work nicely for sweetner too)
                    Cinnamon, I used 1 TBL
Bring to a boil then add
                    1 tsp vanilla

Mix you nut mixture together, pour hot oil mixture and toss, put out on a sheet and let dry. I also added 1/2 a bar of 85% choc bar chopped up small after it was cooled. This can be eaten plain, or like a cereal with you choice of milk or cream over it

It used to be pretty normal to eat fish for breakfast, it seems to have rather fallen out of favour, but sardines, pilchards, mackaral, all make easy fast breakfasts.

i dont eat meat so my choices are a little more limited.

I tend to either IF, or have some variation on eggs:

                        1) Omelette (5 egg) plain, or with sliced onions, muchrooms, cheese, pepperdew peppers [usually just one topping]
                        2) fried eggs (in coconut oil) with fried onions or mushrooms

                          OP,

I highly suggest cutting out the flax pancakes. Flax has demonstrated over time that is has a link to developing prostate cancer in men.

Here is just one link to get you started on why: http://www.cure-guide.com/natural_he...te_cancer.html

Switch to almond meal or coconut flour!
