    Been primal for a week. My teeth are much cleaner feeling after cutting out grains and sugars.

      there is also a major genetic component to all of this. I know people who brush WAY better than I do and get more cavities, and people who brush less and have fewer. but don't quit brushing on account of toothpaste. I HATED the taste of toothpaste for years and wouldn't brush. My dad is a dentist and always said it's not a big deal not to use toothpaste as long as you were brushing well and getting fluoride elsewhere. (I haven't been convinced that it's the devil some seem to think it is, but if you choose to avoid it, that's fine with me.)

        I use a non-fluoride mouthwash (mainly alcohol and water) in the morning, floss at night and use a toothbrush dipped in mouthwash at night aswell. Feel icky going to bed without brushing if I've been eating garlic or something like that for dinner.

          eh, just brush your teeth. 2 minutes in the morning and 2 minutes before bed. There are many fluoride free toothpastes if a person is fluoride-phobic. That said, make sure to floss and rinse if you choose not to brush.

                I oil pull with coconut oil and brush with a teeth cleaner made with coconut oil that you can buy from Tropical Traditions, (watch for BOGOF and free shipping offers). And floss, of course. Couldn't imagine not brushing my teeth, but couldn't imagine using conventional toothpaste, either.

                  I brush my teeth 2x's a day...but I wanted to say that my husband told me the other day that before processed foods and sugars were added into our diets people never had rotten teeth. I am still paranoid about breath so I brush. But I have to say that since giving up wheat and sugar I have a cleaner mouth, no more white tongue that I have to brush to death.

                      "Good teeth without brushing" is not possible.
                      The bacteria in your mouth will grow whether you like it or not. The biofilm exists, more or less, like the bacteria in your gut exist to prevent pathogenic fungi, virus's, and other nasties from entering the bloodstream. Thats the most recent hypothesis, anyways.
                      You can not rid yourself of these bacteria. Doing so would be quite harmful, actually. But you can control them.
                      TOOTHPASTE DOES NOT REMOVE THESE BACTERIA. The physical act of brushing is what cleans your mouth, NOT TOOTHPASTE. Toothpaste exists as a fluoride delivery system. While fluoride is harmful if ingested, its mineralizing effect on tooth enamel is well documented and proven to reduce and prevent cavities from forming. If you don't swallow the stuff, you will be fine, in my opinion. Its the fluoride in water that is the problem, not toothpaste.
                      Other than that, most toothpaste drys out your gums and hastens gum recession. Brushing without toothpaste is JUST FINE.
                      Brushing is what cleans your mouth, not toothpaste, not toothpowder. Brushing.

                        nope it wasn't a yeast infection...I know what that is my one son had that whilst I was Breast feeding him when he was little. It would come off and there were times where it wasn't white too.

                          I only brush occasionally, but according to the studies done by Dr. Weston A Price, good nutrition is what keeps your gums and teeth healthy, not brushing, fluoride or any other gimmicky stuff CW tries to sell. His book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration was published in 1939 and is still selling like hotcakes on Amazon.com, also, take a look at Ramiel Nagel's book, Cure Tooth Decay. It's mostly based on Price's work.

                            I must respectfully differ with you, Dan. My personal experience backs Price and Ramiel Nagel. It's nutritional deficiencies from eating junk (wheat, sugar, etc) and avoiding nutrients (vitamin D3, magnesium, K2, etc) that cause my teeth to ache and develop cavities. So long as I stick to a primal diet, my teeth are clean and smooth and healthy. I can go for days without brushing. When I do brush out of custom, I use Burt's Bee's non fluoride paste.

                            To elaborate: after a few years of great primal eating I went through a depressive slump last spring and consumed the conventional SAD. In five weeks time my teeth went back to hurting and needing to be brushed constantly or there was a yucky carpet of film on them. Within three weeks of resuming primal eating, my teeth were back to feeling great.

                            Yes I know modern dentristry wants us to believe that cavities are caused by bacteria and thwarted by fluoride, but I'm not buying it.

                              I largely agree with you Liss, I was just saying its still possible to get cavities eating primal or however you choose to eat. I've seen it. Taking care of your teeth is never a bad idea.

                                Hopefully this is not TOO off topic. I drink coffee quite a bit and think that my teeth may be whiter if I cut back or gave it up. It is really my one vice so it doesn't bother me in regards to my health. Any primal whitening solutions other than diet?
