  • Restocking the fridge......

    OK,I need to restock my fridge and cupboards with PB friendly foods.

    What are some of your favorites that you keep on hand at all times?

    I fell off my plan during the past couple of weeks due to stress issues,while not regaining anything,I haven't lost anything either.But I need to start over,again,and I am looking for advice on things to keep on hand.

    I don't sit down to full meals other than breakfast,so I have a need for lots of grab and go foods,and good snacks.

    I use small amounts of fruit and nuts. Hard boiled eggs, leftover meat. I will put nearly anything in a crock pot because it is incredibly convenient. Some people eat cheese, so maybe you could give that a shot as a convenience food.

    I wish I could help more with convenience foods but I've noticed that I'm actually cooking more since going primal. (Not complaining. :P)

      I love to cook,but I just don't have time at work to get things out to reheat....I can cook ahead so things are ready for my days off and so I don't have to worry about what my hubby is cooking for dinner,but as far as at work,I need to be able to just grab a little something and keep going....

        I'm starting to sound like a broken record but I hardly ever leave home without a couple of hardboiled eggs. Between those coconut milk and cream in my coffee ... I hardly ever eat at work. I snack at work and eat at home.

            I just finished cutting some jerky up into smaller "grab and go" pieces.

            That's one thing I do have all the time,love the stuff.

            What kinds of things do you guys like to snack on? Maybe that will give me some ideas?

              coconut butter, celery, homemade jerky (ground and strip)

                I've never made jerky from strips of meat,just ground maybe I will have to get my dehydrator out and give it a go.

                  OK,so here's my grab and go list:

                  Jerky of assorted types
                  nuts,a few a day
                  fruits,one or two servings a day at most.
                  veggie sticks(celery,carrots,etc),unlimited
                  string cheese,no more than one a day
                  Also found some meat(beef and turkey) snack sticks that are only 1g carb per two sticks,and 90 calories per two.

                  How's that for snacks?

                  Have also decided to my morning meal will be more like dinner rather than breakfast,and contain more lean protein.
                  Going to try to go as low as I can tolerate with my carbs and see if I can get back on track losing weight.

                    my grab and go snacks tend to be things like nuts or coconut flakes.

                    When i cook a meal, I make enough to have something to freeze for a future meal or have in the fridge so the next day's lunch/breakfast is as easy as nuking it in the microwave. I don't tend to snack much with two good meals a day.

                    eta: here's what my pantry/fridge/freezer generally looks like...supplemented with whatever is fresh and in season:
                    things I always have:

                    lots of meat
                    cans of coconut milk
                    red and green curry paste
                    lots of other spices, but I *have* to have: coriander, red pepper flake, oregano, parsley, cumin, cayenne, italian seasoning, garlic powder, basil, thyme, bay leaves, cinnamon/cinnamon sticks, turmeric, paprika, salt, pepper)
                    cauliflower
                    tub of mixed greens
                    onions
                    leafy greens (I buy the bags of pre-washed/cut kale or collards)
                    celery
                    Fage Total
                    minced ginger
                    a couple kinds of nuts & seeds, usually cashews, walnuts and pumpkin seeds.
                    frozen berries
                    eggs
                    grass fed butter
                    coconut oil
                    olive oil
                    balsamic vinegar
                    gluten free tamari
                    a few sweet potatos
                    base for chicken and beef stock (I'm not ready to make my own yet)

                      We try to cook enough that there will be leftovers of meat and vegetables and eggs.

                      For snacks: bananas, nuts, nut butters, whole yogurt, other fruit when it seems good.

                        #1 snack: Fried eggs. My husband always has eggs in the morning but leaves a lot of coconut oil floating around the pan, so I like to toss in a couple of eggs to soak up the oil. I've got a snack for later, I'm not wasting my precious coconut oil, and I don't have to wash any extra dishes. Eggscellent!

                          +1 - practically identical to mine! I have some almond flour, dessicated cocout, cacao powder, red wine and cider vinegar, cinnamon, passata...

                            I'm not much for greens,but I do use a lot of spices and seasonings.

                            I see people talk about coconut milk and oil a lot,but I've never really developed a taste for it.
                            I don't use a lot of oil in my cooking either.

                            I use real butter,unsalted,I buy it from the Amish store when I'm up that way.Other times I just use plain store bought butter.

                            I put some chicken in the slow cooker last night with extra water,I will have some of the chicken today,and the rest of the meat and the resulting broth will be a soup base for tomorrow.
