  • Those who have had gluten after a hiatus

Did it mess with your intestines at all? I have been gluten free for a few weeks now, and ate some of y kids pizza this afternoon at lunch. I am only now starting not to feel nauseous and the pain in my upper GI tract is finally subsiding.

I NEVER thought gluten would have such an effect on me. It's happened in the past when I've done SBD and then added in gluten, but I never made the connection.

    Yikes! Learned my lesson.

And the poor kids! Get them off the gluten, too!

I ate quite a bit of pizza on the 26th day of PB and had no problem with it. I'll try again soon and see if I notice anything. Sugar, on the other hand, gives me massive headaches now.

I also ate pizza a few weeks ago and only got heartburn, but it might have been the cheese.

I wonder then if it was something else or if it was the gluten? Hmmm

I ate bread on vacation after being off grains for 3 weeks. My mood got worse and worse and by the 5th day I was really ill with flu-like symptoms. I don't have to try THAT experiment again!

That is my intention. I just have to find my feet first and figure this whole thing out before bringing my family in on eating more primally (although we already have no bread in the house at all).

scubasam, there's plenty of people who discover "grain sensitivities" after going grain free. One theory is the gut flora that consumed that stuff for you has starved and departed and cannot help you anymore. Another is you just didn't realize how much that stuff was messing with you and good riddance.

Half a slice of bread turns to stone in my guts. Sugar I can handle in small amounts., wheat not so much.

That makes sense. I am not likely to experiment with it again any time soon.

I had a weird one yesterday. As a treat I had a banana dipped in peanut butter and raspberry jam. My stomach ACHED so bad. I haven't had a banana in months, so this new discovery sucks. Banana's were my treat food.

Could it have been the sugar in the raspberry jam rather than the banana? I have also found that eating sunflower butter makes me queasy (G-d, maybe everything is going to affect me eventually and I won't be able to eat anything, lol).

Hmmm... or perhaps the disgusting skippy peanut butter my friend served?

Maybe I'll try a banana berry smoothie and see how that goes in a couple days.

I vote for the skippy crap :-)! Hope the smoothie works and you don't have to give up your treat!

Last week, just for the heck if it, i tried some bread samples at the grocery store (the real treat was the European butter they were putting on the bread). Then later I had one slice of pizza just to see how I'd handle it. Pizza used to be my go-to food several times a week.

The next day, in fact the whole weekend, I have had respiratory problems--scratchy throat, cough, mucus, watery eyes. Now I know why I spent most of my childhood and adult life with bronchitis, sinusitis, allergies and pneumonia! Not to mention all the mood swings, cravings and depression. Damned gluten!
