  • Bagel/Bread alternatives? - Need suggestions!

    Hi all

New member here, 1/2 way thru reading PB and really liking the evolutionary angle to its principles. It intrinsically makes a lot of sense. The biggest challenge for me is that I am an addict when it comes to bread/bagels. I'm regularly eating one flax seed bagel for lunch every weekday and quite often a few slices of cobbs cape seed loaf as an after supper snack. I've started altering my meal plans to steer it towards paleo foods now but I really would like get some suggestions for what to eat instead of grain for some carbs? I work out or run just about everyday and am quite thin (6'2", 170 lbs) so maintaining enough energy is important and weight loss is the last thing I want to achieve from this. What do other apples out there grab and put in their lunch boxes for some carby energy food?

Lots of fruits and veggies, it's easy to get plenty of carbs that way.

There are no "substitutes" for bread. You just need to get it out of your diet completely for all the reasons that the PB outlines.

i'd say fruits and high carb veggies, broccoli and cauliflower come to mind

Also, I've had zero energy problems since moving to low carb, I'll spend half of a soccer game sprinting and still not be spent at the end.
I didn't like the rules you gave me, so I made some of my own.

Fruit and veggies are awesome. But, look into paleokits, I have a feeling that's what you might be looking for.

For carb heavy foods, sweet potatoes and fruits are your most primal options.

I too feel more energized low carb.

Come on man. Bread tastes like nothing!

For carbs, like others already said, eat fruits, veggies, sweet potatoes, etc.

I occasionally make oopsie rolls as bread substitutes. They work well as buns for burgers.
