  • egg question

Hi all! Just a quick question - for breakfast, I like to add a few extra egg whites to my coconut oil fried eggs (2) (I know it's sacralige, but I do throw out the extra yolks). My question is since there's not much additional nutrition except for the protein in the whites, does it matter if the whites are organic or traditional? I definately use the organic for the yolks, but am hoping to save a couple of $$ as I go through A Lot of eggs! Haven't cheaped out yet, but I've been tempted.....

    Thanks for your input.

Good question, sounds like something I might do myself (buy tons of cheap eggs and use the whites only). I guess it's pretty safe since it's nothing but protein.

      I cast thee out!!!

Seriously though, why throw out the yolks? Why why why?

It matters as much as you want it to. It's not as though typical supermarket eggs are poisonous.

Egg yolks from cheap eggs taste bland.
Maybe you need more protein than fats.
Whites are good post work out.
Whites can taste good by itself.

Oh, and yolks are fullllll of cholesterol!

From the evolutionary perspective, humans always have eaten a greater percentage of fat than protein. If you want more protein, take the fat that goes along with it.

            What, is that a rule?

Nothing is a rule if you don't follow it. I think it's worth following, though. More fat than protein is much healthier. Protein serves an important function but after a point it shouldn't replace fat.

Since the entire point of getting free-range eggs is to eat the yolk and get the nutrients, no it doesn't matter if you get conventional eggs yolks, there's likely no difference. It's downright silly to do so though.

Save the yolks and make your own mayonnaise with them.

I tried making mayonaise with the just the yolks - I liked it with the whole egg better. Plus saving the egg yolks in the fridge out of the shell oogs me out, I don't know why - like they'll go bad quicker? It's a mental thing with me. (quick - pass the purell!)

Also, I just love the extra whites with an extra spoonful of coconut oil poured over them....Still getting yolks, extra DELICIOUS fat and protein.....it's only like 2 - 3 extra egg whites with my two eggs (depending on how hungry I am).

So is the general consensus conventional EGG WHITES ONLY are ok? With the organic egg yolks?

Make sure that they're either free-range or omega 3 eggs if you're eating the yolk. "Organic" is so ambiguous. What if they're cramming them into cages and feeding them organically grown corn? Then they're going to be useless. I'm having this issue with butter. Yeah it's "organic" but unless it was pasture-fed the nutrients are going to suck. Definitely make sure that the animals got to live outside or were fed flax.

too many whites without yolkes can also cause a biotin deficiency. EAT THE YOLK it has anabolic compounds, BCAA's, Vitamin A, EAT THE YOLKKKKKKK

Using the whites and tossing the yolk? Insanity! Hit up Trader Joes and grab some of their cheap, high quality egg white cartons.
