  • How many carbs do you eat?

I'm just curious as to the distribution. I eat between 50-200g a day, all cushioned with plenty of fiber and fat.

edit: is there any way to get a poll after already creating the post?

200g is an awful lot. You must be doing some intense cardio on those days.

I am between 40-60 most days. The only time I am above that are the days I eat a sweet potato (once a week at most).

Don't know exactly, but around 30 - 100 grams I'd say. I get all of my carbs from vegetables, nuts and berries - in that order.
Sometimes you need to be told the truth in order to be able to see it.

      I see grain people...

      Exist in shadow, drifting away.

On most days, my carbs are less than 20g and I don't get very much in the way of fiber at all.

          Oh sweet another carb thread.

Can we just agree before hand that EVERYONE HAS DIFFERENT NEEDS.

          I am an athlete, I eat between 75 - 150 a day.

Someone who is overweight and trying to lose weight will eat less.

Someone who is maintaining will probably eat around 100.

Your post is too general for anything we say to mean anything without qualifying what your goals are, how healthy you are at this point in time, etc etc etc.

You misinterpret me. I agree with you and have found my correct amount of carbs, I'm just curious as to the range. I'm currently in maintenance and would like to put all these numbers into a graph to see if there are any patterns.

I eat between 40 and 80 gms of carbs per day, exercise ~3 hrs/week (cardio mostly), and I am currently losing weight at a whopping rate of .5 to 1 lb per month. I just hope it doesn't stop alltogether.
              I'm a quitter...but I'm back now.

I used to eat very little carbs for about three months, but a few weeks ago I allowed more of them in my diet *occasionally*. I try to avoid grains completely and usually go for potatoes or rice. I've found that my weight loss is not affected too much, especially since I usually align my carby meals to follow extensive workouts. And I actually think that at least for non-diabetic or not severly pre-diabetic people the occasional sugar surge can be beneficial.

As far as quantities are concerned, I'm sure I don't exceed 300g of carbs on these days, and typically on many regular days I'll eat less than 50g of carbs. I wouldn't call it cheat days exactly - back in my days of unhealthy eating it wasn't uncommon for me to eat 500+g of refined carbs a day (and the amount of fat that typically went along with it). I'm certainly not going back to that, nor would I recommend it to anyone ... but I do consider carbs to be a natural part of the human diet (there are many hunter/gatherer societies that eat a lot of carbs without any negative effects).

If you're unsure about carbs - have your blood sugar tested (including a glucose tolerance test). If you're not pathologically sensitive to carbs, it's absolutely ok to eat them even in larger quantities occasionally or even regularly, provided that you burn these calories - or to put it differently: If you maintain a caloric balance or deficit. However, most people find it easier to not overeat when they limit carbs. You'll have to try and find out for yourself.

Just looking at the numbers and assuming that you all are at the ideal, the standard deviation is 50g, proving all claims up to the point.

How the hell do you consume 400 carbs in a single day? I don't recall myself doing that back when I used to eat grains every meal...

And, oh. I am an athlete too and am trying to gain weight - muscle that is. I am around 100-150 grams a day. May go over 150 when I eat my once a week sweet potato. Or, if I go on a hike or run 5 miles and enjoy a larabar.
