  • Teach us to care and not to care !

    Hello new journal, been reading on this forum for a while, but I want to start a journal to document my experiment.
    A quick background: so basically I did every diet under the son lol, been LC in the last 10 years, different forms of it, with periods of off the wagon and periods of VLC, and ZC.

    As am getting older, things are not working the way they used to work so easily.

    Not sure what I will write here, will see, first step is start a journal

    So Monday I will start potato hack for a few days, want to start a refeed/reset to repair my metabolism, then after will eat primal as plenty of veg, protein and some fruit/startch.

      Good luck!
      I am not a bodybuilding/fat loss/strength training "guru" BUT I achieved a lean state with ease after learning the correct way to train and eat and I want to HELP YOU achieve the same.

          Do give the Primal Blueprint a good read if you haven't already. Relying strictly on the forums can be confusing at best.

            Today starting the potato hack until Weds most likely- short because I am going to my DD's graduation on Weds afternoon, so most likely I will take her out for dinner, will try to have potato for dinner as well, will try to keep it as good as possible.

            Also must work on quitting the soda - once again !!! I only started this habit after going LC ... started to get hypoglycenic and needed the pick me up... I don't want to replace it with anything else, I want to quit it differently this time, I want my body to wants to quit and not feel the need to need it if you know what I mean!!

            I also started coffee, and will keep that, have two every morning, will have it with whole milk, but very small amount.

              You have just started trying to learn about eating healthy and primal and already you are starting with hacks??? How is that a good idea? Learn to be primal, eat that way for a few months and see how you look feel and perform before you start hacking. That should be an end game fine tune and not a start.

              Read the book read it again, then adopt the lifestyle, live it and see where you go.

                Thank you Warmbear for your advise, I guess it wasn't clear to you from my posts, I have been doing this LC/ Paleo, avoid grains and carbs for over 10 years.

                    However I think my advice still stands. You are hacking and I dont think you need to. Go primal and just take some time to let it happen. Yes you have been all over the LC map on again off again but have you just lived lowish carb paleo for a good long time? No hacking no cheating no getting off the horse and back on? Your post still leaves me with the impression you have not lived this in a steady healthy state long enough to let your system normalize.

                      Yes Warmbear, I was VLC for a couple of years, then went ZC for jsut under 2 years, did I lose weight, yes I was the lowest weight ever (117lb) but it wasn't sustainable for me, I gained it all back with some more.
                      I want to do this hack for 3 days, so one more day, I know its not sustainable either, am not stupid you know! but just like meat fast/fat fast or alternative day fasting, its something one does now and again to kick start and change habits, its not a woe.
                      In addition I have been doing VLC for so long now, I want to reset my body and get it used to eating startch again, even if I don't lose any weight at all on the hack, if my body gets used to eating carbs and not gain, I will be happy.

                      Perhaps I shouldn't document what I want to do here as people seem to be critical.

                        Not critical as such so much as concerned. We dont have all the info and can only go with what info you provide and then guess how to help. Eating primal is not just about vlc or zc. in fact I dare say that is not it at all. Mark suggests for weight loss that 50 to 75 g carbs a day be your target for a reason. So your body can learn to balance its hormones and nutritional needs.

                        Going vlc works for some folks definitely does not for me. Folks are all over the map on this but really is it healthy to do vlc/zc long term? I doubt it. I hope such a fast reintroduction of starches does not make you miserable 'cause man it would ruin my day.

                        The whole point of going primal is to live with optimal health and your hormones do require that you eat a good supply of balanced nutrition. I cant do that VLC, maybe you can.

                        I generally dont criticize folks but I do try to suggest caution and slowing down.

                          If your lowest weight was 117 lbs, I assume you are female. Can you tell us how old you are and how much you weight now and what you would like to be?

                          What is the rest of your life like? stress, exercise, sleep, play? Yes I am nosy but if we can know you better we can help better.

                            Today I found naturally flavoured spring water sweetened with stevia, so had that instead of a diet drink - stevia haven't caused me issues up to now, and if I keep it to one drink it should be OK I hope.

                            For my lunch I had 2 med potatoes with salad, I just find adding the veg to potato is a lot more satisfying. Dinner wanted to do the same thing i.e. potato and veg, but was too lazy and ended up having a jacket potato - size was a bit smaller than large.
                            I am really happy I am able to eat the potato without having a lot of ill effect, i.e not ballooning.
