  • In which I EAT MORE FAT! (Nutritional Ketosis)

    Hello all!

On/off PB for about a year. Had good results, then got derailed by a family health crisis and a wicked bout of depression.

    High weight: 184
Low Primal weight: 163 (December 2013)
Most recent weight (a few weeks ago): 183

I've been following a ketogenic diet for a week now. I haven't weighed yet, but I've lost 11 inches! I'm very clear-headed and grounded.

Delicious things I'm eating in keto:
    Cowboy bacon
Wild salmon basted in butter and fines herbes
    Spicy Italian sausage
    Whipped cream
    Blueberries and whipped cream
    Bacon Caesar salad
Eggs sunny side up with avocado slices
Pepperoni crisped in the toaster oven
    Brie

I am 5'9" and I eat about ~2000-2200 calories a day, with an 80/15/5 split.

My older brother was diagnosed with an Astrocytoma grade 2 tumor in February and had a craniotomy to remove it. Since then we've been reading everything we can about what he can do to slow or prevent regrowth. A ketogenic diet keeps popping up. It also comes up as beneficial for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Bipolar, and depression.

    Depression!

I don't lost weight easily and I'm prone to depression! Since I've started I've lost weight easily and my depression has abated. . I have two weeks to go into deep ketosis, and I'm interested to see what that feels like.

      Hips: -2"

      Waist at navel: -1"

      Waist at narrowest point: -3"

      Chest: -2"

      Bust: -2"

      Thigh: -1"

We could say 12", if we count both legs. My size 14 pants are hanging on my hips.

I made deviled eggs today. I found out that I don't love them the way I used to. Bummer!

Bacon Caesar salad, that sounds tasty; must work that into this weeks menu.

Bacon Caesar salad is amazing. After a while bacon and breakfast sausage gets too rich sometimes. The lettuce is a nice complement and the Caesar dressing mellows it out. Delicious!

I can get through my whole Precision Yoga The Method yoga DVD now, tried Yoga Burn and only made it 12 mins out of an hour. Mini-goal, complete the hour.

Wide awake. That's one issue with ketosis that I've yet to resolve. Can't fall asleep until sometime between midnight and 3am. Some people suggest melatonin, others suggest magnesium. Hmmm...

I've seen the same with sleep. I awake every morning before the alarm and am bounding with energy. I feel refreshed and don't get tired so aren't worrying about length- I seem to be getting high quality
When I'd had enough of the grain and starched based 'diabetic eating for health' diet (eating for health, my ass!) my weight was 242.5 lbs. On starting primal- 18th April 2013 weight : 238.1.
                  27th July 2013. weight after 100 days 136.9 weight lost 101.2lb ; that's 105.6lbs since I stopped the 'diabetic eating for health'

That would actually be great, and I think I did that once already, and it was an hour and a half before the alarm. . I think I have to limit coffee and chocolate to before noon so I can fall asleep.

I cut up some liver and froze it into pills yesterday. Trying to eat some with every meal. It was grass-fed bison liver, and the smell was abominable. Maybe I should just eat chicken pâté. In little baby endive boats...mmm.

My brother is having a lot of fatigue from radiation, and I sent my SIL a few articles on liver and stamina. I've easily fatigued over the years and I want to see if liver gives me more stamina. We hatessss eating it, yes we do, so maybe pills are the way to go. Until we can get some pâté.

If you start to have heart palpitations, I'd suggest magnesium. After about 4 weeks in ketosis, I developed them. It felt like a pounding arrythmia. Very weird. Magnesium stopped it within minutes and if I continued to take the magnesium daily, they stayed away. It also helped with my sleep. 500 mg is what I took.

I suggest both. I use Natural Calm Mag powder at night along with 5htp which is a precursor to melatonin. : )
