  • Do you have any sites or book recommendations for how to use adaptogens? I got eleuthero root. I'm waiting to get the hang of some other supplements (mostly figuring out when I want to take magnesium & making sure it works well) before I try it. No idea what kind of dose to use or when to take it.

    • No, im just going by the recommended dosage on the bottle and usually doubling it. I did run across a book that sounded really good with detailed writeups of 23 or so adaptogens. Ill see if i can find it again later, i wouldnt mind reading it.

      • Wow, Zach, I think if I ate what you did, I'd be so hungry. Can't imagine eating only fruit and milk.

I took rhodiola for about 1.5-2 weeks, and it was freaking amazing. I totally didn't expect it to do anything, but it actually worked. Helped me fall asleep quickly at night and got rid of the afternoon crash. I switched to ashwagandha three days ago, and it doesn't work as well for me. Maybe I'm not taking enough? I've been taking three dropperfuls, but I think I'll up it to four. I want to go back to the rhodiola but don't want to develop a tolerance to it.

        • So far as i have read RR doesnt build up a tolerance like other adaptogens do. Also RR and ashwa are good stacked together so try that!

As for being hungry, add 80g of gelatin to your milk!

          • Hmmm, maybe I'll take both tonight then.

I second that. I've been having two sachets of knox gelatine (don't know how much is in each one?) in my morning coffees, and definitely noticing appetite suppression, and a distinct reduction of interest in meat...
"I think the basic anti-aging diet is also the best diet for prevention and treatment of diabetes, scleroderma, and the various "connective tissue diseases." This would emphasize high protein, low unsaturated fats, low iron, and high antioxidant consumption, with a moderate or low starch consumption.

In practice, this means that a major part of the diet should be milk, cheese, eggs, shellfish, fruits and coconut oil, with vitamin E and salt as the safest supplements."

              • Yeah, I'm inconsistent with my gelatin intake. I don't consume any when I forget to make jello the day before (I forget often). I just like jello so much that I think it's a waste to consume it without first turning it into jello. This probably makes no sense, but i guess I think of it more as a food than a supplement.

                  8g each.

Im trying to get upwards of 100g a day as an experiment. Its kind of hard to do though and expensive! I just got two green cans and buy the knox by the case so i should be able to do it for a couple weeks anyway.

                    WOAH - 100g a day?? That's impressive. THe most I had was 24g

Have you tried making coffee jello? I made it by accident the other day - forgot about my coffee and went I went back it had jello-fied. It tasted great actually! Coffee, milk, maple syrup

                      • Just took my temp, 99.4! Waking temp today was on the nose 98.6. Pretty amazed, and i know this therm is accurate because i tested on several other people including using it on my kid when he had a fever.

                        • I heated about 40-50 grams of gelatin with some water on a pan, and added it to a cold glass of milk and honey. The texture was still slimy and the milk was all chunky. I salvaged it by throwing in a chunk of baking chocolate and microwaving it.

Did I add/heat the gelatin wrong? Did I not "cook" the gelatin enough? It wasn't very good drinking it before I added the chocolate. I'm planning on making half a cup of coffee and adding the other half milk tomorrow to see if the gelatin tastes better.

                          • Here's my first day of temps:

First thing in the morning (whilst still in bed) - 35.8C (96.4)
After first meal and within 1 hour of waking - 36.1C (96.9)
                            After second meal - 36.6C (97.8)
Just now around 1 hour before bed - 36.3C (97.3)

Pretty shocking really and it's no wonder my feet are absolutely freezing all the time. I'm also taking 3 readings each time and use the average since there is a couple of .units difference.

                            Here's todays food too:

11:00 - NAKD bar, small milk
11:45 - Rice Krispies, 1.5 cup of Milk temp 30 minutes later: 36.1C
13:50 - Goat cheese soft and hard. Few dried pineapple slices.
14:25 - Mars Bar, small milk
19:00 - 2 Sweet Potatoes with 1 cup grapes, honey, coconut oil, parsley, hard cheese. Temp 30 minutes later: 36.6C (didn't really enjoy this newly discovered meal, but still ate it all)
20:30 - Mars bar, chocolate, milk, jaffa cakes

2900 calories. 375g Carbs. Total fluid is 1L goat milk and a few sips of water. Urine has some colour at last!

I'm still figuring out what to have for breakfast to make it a larger meal so that I don't have to rely on snacking. I'm probably going to get salted popcorn, croissants, jam and more pineapple to dehydrate tomorrow. Gotta say that the idea of eating anything isn't really appealing to me but I know that will go away as I get use to eating more and a range of food.

Ice cream is still on the horizon - just waiting for supplier to let me know of shipping and pricing.

You have to warm all the liquids and drink it hot/warm otherwise it will start to gelatinize. Are you afraid of warming milk or something? I find its even easier to digest warmed up with sugar added.

                              Heres what i do..

Small sauce pan, turn burner on medium. Paur in milk, i could to 16 quickly, a quick second = 1oz. Stir in cocoa powder, maple syrup, salt, cinnimon and coconut oil, after things are mixed i stir in the gelatin relatively slowely so it doesnt coagulate, mix until coconut oil and gelatin are completely dissolved, pour in a glass and drink within 5-10 minutes. Do it right and it should be smokth and frothy.
