  • Yikes. Ummm...I really love my athletic therapist and she is the only person who's been able to help me with my neck problems. And that's through seeing a lot of different specialists. She does soft tissue release and trigger point therapy. But I will ask her what her suggestions are going forward. I completely forgot to mention: I've had back issues in the past (back spasms caused by gallbladder spasms...thankfully, that sucker was taken out), and was in a car accident last year that really weakened my back. My athletic therapist and I are working on muscle endurance, and then she suggests bulking up and going back to weight lifting, which I loved and made HUGE improvements in back pain (as in, it was completely gone).

Now, having said all that, if this pain in my neck/shoulder/radiating going down my arm doesn't improve in the next few weeks (and it just came back yesterday), then I'm going back to my doctor. I *will* consider seeing an orthopedist.

A couple questions for all ya'll:

I've read that high dosing vitamin k is dangerous. Is this true? I'm not eating any leafy greens these days unless I juice 'em. Even then, vitamin k is fat soluble. I'm not sure I want to add coconut oil or butter to my veggie/fruit juice, because that sounds FUCKING NASTY. I'm not sure I want to start taking Aspirin either, as using Advil for years has already screwed up my stomach enough and given me gastritis.

Secondly, what is an anti-inflammatory diet when you're following a Matt Stone protocol? Isn't sugar inflammatory? I'm not eating a lot of gluten these days, but when I want it, I eat it. Wheat is supposedly anti-inflammatory too. I do love ginger, so I add it to juices...what else? I've never had any luck with MSM as an anti-inflammatory.

Edited again to add: I've just discovered that bromelain is an anti-inflammatory. And here I thought it was just a good digestive aid! I'll start taking it again. And gelatin as well helps with inflammation. I'm going to buy some papaya while I'm out today, and some seaweed. I'll have to take a break from eating white potatoes (NOOOOOO!) and stick to sweet potatoes and rice. Shiitake and oyster mushrooms are good too. Good thing I had to go grocery shopping this morning!

    • Just to add to Patski's questions:

Is iodine needed for thyroid if the only seafood I'm eating is Salmon (and salt)?

If there any need to incorporate gelatine as a supplementation approach? I take it you can only add it to hot drinks?

I've been having trouble sleeping lately, often waking 3 hours after going to be, then another 3 hours after that. Not to use the toilet, but just because I'm not sleeping very well.

As I understand it, anti-inflammatory is mostly about avoiding bad oils/fats and gluten. I know sugar is inflammatory but what about honey?

Lastly, for my breakfast I normally eat fruit and milk and plan on making oat flapjacks with raisins (and salt and butter). Rather than eating the fruit as it is, would it be better to make a smoothie with goat milk, fruit, perhaps some green juice?

      • Sorry, I'm backing out of the eating contest. I decided that it's silly to eat 15,000 calories in an hour just to prove that I can beat you. Not when I'm trying to lose 12-17 pounds. Hah! But once I lose that weight...maybe. Still down for a peach-eating contest though. Can only do so much damage with peaches. Heh.

        • Sugar isn't inflammatory. Inflammation, causes, and foods, are largely misleading.

Regeneration and degeneration - Types of inflammation change with aging

          Foods that could be considered inflammatory are foods rich in inflammatory aminos, those high in PUFA, and anything that elicits an allergenic response -- ie; bloating, stomach pains, fatigue, etc;

I've read that high dosing vitamin k is dangerous. Is this true? I'm not eating any leafy greens these days unless I juice 'em. Even then, vitamin k is fat soluble. Most people who haven't been eating rich sources of k2 foods all their lives are probably deficient in vitamin k, and it works synergestically with other fat soluble vitamins anyway, so creating a surplus is unlikely. It also regulates calcification and blood coagulation.

Vitamin k2 is the more beneficial and potent form of vitamin k, and could replace vitamin k in every function, since the ability to convert vitamin k, and for it to do its tasks is directly related to the amount of carbon dioxide available. It also has to be converted to k2 anyway to perform those functions by digestive flora.

          • Holy shit, that is a long read that I'm not prepared to read right now!

I eat eggs and butter frequently, both of which contain k2. I dunno about supplementing man....argh

            • Don't worry about supplementing k2, I just eat gouda cheese for that.

                  • Two hot yoga classes in two days. Wow, my body is aching! But I woke up today with only slight pain in my neck/shoulder/arm/hand. Wow!

Class was brutal today. I need a skimpy sports bra to go with my short shorts. Not a clingy, "dri-fit" Nike shirt. Dear god, it was way too hot! But I fucking did it!

Yep soon. Im doing a writup for something and want the after pics to be dramatic, right now there is not as much difference from the ab shot since i have only lost a few lbs and out on muscle. Starting monday i will full bore my diet and lean out as much as i can. I also want more muscle so i need a bit more time.

Are you hitting up the junk food diet again? I find in the summer it's hard to even eat, which sucks, and I usually just drink all my calories and eat too much really water dense fruit.
