  • did you drink the buttermilk? fresh buttermilk is unreal. I got a whole stack of raw cream when the kids were little. you need a large bucket and a drill with a paint mixing attachment. stick the drill in the bucket. 20 mins later you have butter. my problem was it went to whipped cream first and I had small children who could eat quicker than I could whip LOL mine did end up yellow.

    • Butter from the store is yellow as they add colouring (learnt this when I did a cheese making course)
It's not listed on the ingredients because it's under a certain weight (less then 5% of the overall weight)
      Labeling laws suck.

        • Thanks jac, yes I do feel soooo incredibly healthy and it does make me happy. My sister tried to get me to give only a "little smile, no teeth" - I just couldn't do it

          • Weeded my leeks - only seven remain out of thirty I planted.

Watered my rhubarb and cranberries, and can't wait for a new feijoa season to begin. There are tiny fruit on my tree already, this year I resolve to keep them hydrated and gather large fruit.

Harvested enough broccoli to serve the three of us.

            Another three egg day

            Also, went tap dancing

            • Great six hour tramp in the native wilderness, following an unmaintained (but recently marked ) track to a 603m peak with awesome mountain and coastal views. Pix do not do justice to the glory of the day.

View of first peak from summit of our second peak

              Coastal view from trig

                  • My two usual cohorts plus another friend, the one who is keen on exploring and had previously made the fresh markings on this trail. On the way back she spied yet another old track for us to venture onto some time.

So few tracks are maintained properly now, but the closed ones can still be navigated. The bush lawyer and cutty grass were a bit mean tho, I almost wished I had a machete (not that I would know how to use it, lol).

                      • Hi Annie!

It's so nice to find another gardener on here! I hope the seven leeks that survived will make it to your families table
I'm also a novice gardener with a small garden of abour 50m2, but I'm trying to grow as much fresh produce on it as possible. I try to use the principles of permaculture as much as possible on the limited space I have.
This year I'll be growing potatoes for the first time ever, which will be terribly exiting

                        • Hey annie,

Thanks for stopping by my journal and your kind words. I have missed your pictures, well when I was on the laptop to see them, too often I was using my phone and didn't get some of them.

Good to hear there are other gardeners about. We have a garden again for the first time in twelve months, and the first proper garden for six years. Though during those drought years we did have an allotment, but it was too far from our house to really make the most of. We planted loads, but couldn't give it daily attention, and sometimes it was a bit of a chore. Anyway, we'll restrict ourselves to container pots in our new place (cos we rent) but we have plenty of space for it. And I am looking forward to finding out what the shrubs and bushes are that we have, trying to identify the roses and seeing what bulbs might pop out. Plus we have grass and great patio space for barbecues. I intend to have the barbecue going as soon as it is warm enough to barbecue in a jumper

Happy days, and primal is sooooo easy with a barbecue

                          • Barefoot walking today. I caught the bus halfway to my parents, then slipped off my shoes to walk the rest of the way. Mostly on footpath unfortunately - the grass verges seemed to have too many prickles.

All this was after my gym class. Whoa, not going for two weeks has set me back somewhat. Gained a kilo and lost my balance and stamina. But as the saying goes, you're only one workout away from a good mood. Feeling great now.
