  • Five Month Journey to Reach 21st Birthday Goal Weight

    Hey all, thanks for checking out my journal! Here's a little background:
    I've always been slightly overweight. I have been yo-yo dieting for years and have not had any success ever. After a rough sophomore year in college, I reached my highest weight ever due to anti-anxiety medication (I'm off of it now). I am brand new to this whole "fat is good thing" as I was raised without butter in the house (sad, I know). I have just completed a month of ketosis, but did not lose anything other than the initial water weight drop. I have been counting calories for years, so I know the basic macro content of the foods I eat, but counting causes me a lot of anxiety as I tend to obsess over it. So I'm ditching the counting and focusing on eating primally. Another reason why I believe keto didn't work well last month is because I LOVE cheese. I would eat a 6oz block of it for breakfast (yes it fit into my daily allowance for calories). I may be sensitive to the proteins in cheese so this month I am going to lower my intake dramatically. I also didn't do any exercise during my keto experience (after about 2 months of heavy lifting), but now I am adopting the Primal Blueprint Fitness Plan.

    My main goal is to lose the love handles. My birthday is at the end of July so I have about 5 months. I have calculated out my BF% which is currently around 26%, and if I drop 20lbs, I can get down to a nice, lean 15%. If I am happy with a higher weight I will stop there, but I really want to be in the best shape of my life before I turn 21.

    Stress: 5/10 I have an organic chemistry exam tomorrow!

    Water? Not enough!

    B: Coffee with heavy cream
    L: Chicken salad lettuce cups with tomato and mustard, leek soup (broth, not creamy)
    D: Steak with a pat of butter, salad with balsamic vinegar & oil
    S: 1 square 88% dark chocolate

    Walking: 30mins
    Stress: 7/10 I had an exam today.
    Sleep: 8hrs
    Appetite: Content
    Cheese? Resisted!
    Diet Soda? 24oz
    Water? Not enough!

      B: Coffee with half and half
      L: Big Ass taco salad with ground beef, guacamole, and tons of good stuff!
      D: Forgot they are cooking tacos and fajitas tonight. Oh well. Today is mexican!
      S: 2 pieces bacon; pistachios

      Stress: 0/10 relieved and ready for spring break!

      OMG! 5 days after going Primal I have broken the plateau I've been stuck on with keto. 3lbs down this morning! It must be the reduced dairy intake because that's all I've changed! Calculated it out, and if I stay on track losing 1lb per week, I can reach my goal by my birthday!

        D:Corned beef with horseradish creme sauce, salad
        S: cheeseburger and bacon soup with a tomato (not creme) base

        Walking: not much
        Stress: 0/10 relieved and ready for spring break!

        Appetite: Content
        Cheese? Resisted!
        Diet Soda? 24oz
        Water? Not enough!
        Drinking some wine tonight. I'll try not to over-do it.

          Hey! I feel like we're kind of on the same boat. I don't have as much to lose and have already been primal for a year and a half, but I too turn 21 in July and want to look good this summer. My problem is I just eat too much. Eating has kind of become my hobby, and that has given me at least 15 lbs that I don't need. Because I have the compulsion to overeat anytime I start eating, my plan is to lose weight by intermittent fasting so that I only have one big meal, instead of 2-3 big ones. Awesome job finding what is affecting you (the cheese) - though I know it is delicious! The best of luck!
          Also, maybe you can slowly work on eliminating the diet sodas and coffees? Artificial sugar is horrible for anyone's health.
          P.S. I know wine is good, but alcohol realllllly affects weight loss. Enjoy it now and then if you need to, but having it a few times a week will make reaching your goal a lot slower.
          P.S.S. My spring break starts in a couple weeks! Can't wait to be able to feel relaxed every day. (:
