  • No Sugar February

For the past few months I've been consuming way to much sugar, candy, pastries, ice cream, etc.
Obviously I need to stop so I thought I'd start a journal to help end this madness. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

    February 1st;
Goal; no sugar from crappy foods.

Check out the Shangra-La thread of discussions. We are taking 1-2 Tbsp's of oil per day and since starting, I haven't had cravings for anything...no sugar, treats, alcohol...nothing. It's amazing. /Lu

Good luck, Tee! Will you still be eating fruit? If so, a coconut milk, blueberry smoothie is a nice treat.

Day 2; made it throw a day without any sweets. Did have ten grapes and a couple of raisins. I had some in the refer and rather than throwing them out I consumed them. I plan on limiting fruit intake to raspberries and blueberries two or three times per week.
Gave up soda and fruit juices January 21. Been drinking just water, coffee and tea.
Thanks Rasputina, I'll give your smoothie a try.
Any recommendations on coconut milk? I usually shop at Whole Foods, or Trader Joe's.

I prefer the WF store brand coconut milk in a can. I was in Walmart the other day and bought six cans of Golden Star, a fave on this forum, but it's incredibly thick, more like cream. Mixing it doesn't seem to help. So, there's those. They cost about the same in my area. (crotch of the Bible Belt.)

And good luck kicking the sugar! You're going to feel great!

Day 3; made it through day 2 without any sweets. Been doing the tablespoon of coconut oil or extra light olive oil twice a day. Seems to be holding off cravings. Also just received the book, Perfect Health Diet. Plan on reading and following it for a bit.
              Enjoy the day.

The tablespoon of oil can be taken at any time? or when you have the actual craving?
                Thanks!

From what I have read it is to be taken in the morning and mid-afternoon. I have my first meal around noon and supper around six.

Day 6; made through day 5 without eating sweets. I also started eating more fat. Thanks to the thread of the same name I'm going to try and eat the following per day.
                        Macros will equal:

                        Carbs: 44 gm, 7.9%
                        Protein: 94 gm, 16.8%
                        Fat: 187 gm, 75.3%
                        2235 calories per day.

This is a great thread, btw. I've been primal for about 5 months, lost quite a bit of body fat and gained muscle, and eat without guilt/fear/shame, etc. BUT I adore sugar and sweets, and always have. I'm able to control that--i actually CAN eat only a couple of tbs of ice cream and be happy (altho you will never be able to pry ice cream from my foods!). Anyway--ive upped protein a LOT (as in almost 2x my lean body mass) and it has been a godsend.

Among other words of wisdom i've found on this site was something I think Paleobird said in a different context: she said something like, "when i'm hungry/have the munchies/whatever, I ask myself if i can eat a piece of meat. If i can, i'm actually hungry. If i don't want meat, it's habit/in my head" (or something like that). So i've been using that--if i want a sweet, i simply eat a piece of meat (small, maybe, but meat anyway). That takes care of that 100% of the time for me.

Day 7; made through day 6 without eating sweets. Even had lunch with mom and went home without her usually care package of homemade cookies, bars, pie and cake. This was a triumph of epic proportion.

Day 8; made through day 7 without eating sweets. Wow a whole week without sweets. It has been a long time since this has happened.
