i wonder if the raspberry spread helped. I read somewhere that raspberry cordial (as long as it has a high percentage of raspberry) is very good for stomach upsets, particularly e coli.

Those fresh eggs sound good. I really must start going to some farmers markets.

Great trip to the Farmers Market today. Brought home more eggs, lettuces, kale, radishes, dill, basil, roma tomatoes, rhubarb, pastured bacon, smokies, sausages, morel mushrooms. Have some good plans for meals this week.

      Today's eats:
B: coffee with cream and coconut oil (don't really LIKE it, but it is tolerable with the oil...will probably do it from time to time), a spoonful of cream cheese to take meds with
L: few bits of the last of the pulled pork, 2 eggs scrambled in butter with a bit of feta
D: meatza topped with tomato, green pepper, mushrooms and mozzarella. Dessert was paleo strawberry rhubarb crumble topped with heavy cream. Most delicious. Had enough fruit to make a second small one with (yes, I know) some sugar and oats for the kids. They weren't ready for the tartness of the paleo recipie. One rum & diet coke, one beer and a bit of wine.

Back is feeling much better today, moving much easier and little need to medicate. Seems to be finally on the mend, hooray. Need to get off my butt and do some more moving tomorrow, if all stays this well. Been pretty rainy here lately, hoping for some sun tomorrow to get in a nice walk at least.

Sunny and warm today. Had a lovely sleep in after staying up late watching food porn a la Food Network.

B: coffee with cream, 2 spoons cream cheese and a few bites of turkey breast coldcuts
L: 1 piece leftover meatza, small bowl of rhubarb strawberry crumble with heavy cream
S: (not really) had 2 beer reading with hubby on the deck in the sun after taking the boys shopping for clothes.
D: bacon wrapped grilled pork tenderloin with morel cream sauce, grilled asparagus, caprese salad. Glass of shiraz.

Didn't need any extra medication for the back today, yay. Much improved. Need to start thinking of a new workout plan for lifting. Has been a while. I'm always good once I have a plan to go at it regular for a few months, and then always let life get in the way and slack off again. Muscle tone is feeling a bit "soft" lately since it's been a while since regular workouts. Weight has been holding fairly steady lately, more activity is probably what I need to kick start some higher level fat loss. That, and being a bit more diligent with eating and drinking. Won't get quite where I think I can be without a little more focus. Damn the responsibilities of being a grown up for interfering with doing what I want! Ah well. Get to see younger son's "graduation" from juniour high next week. Took him out today to get dress pants, shirt, tie and jacket (looks fab), which he will wear with brightly coloured skater shoes. Hubby couldn't quite convince him that dress shoes would be appropriate...haha.

Another day gone. Physio today gave me some more exercises to work on back and core. Low back muscles are still very tight, but increased mobility from last week. Another few days of potent anti-inflammatory meds until I can go back to some IF, which I feel I could really use right now.

          Eats:
B: 2 eggs scrambled in bacon fat with green pepper, tomato and a bit of mozzarella, coffee with cream
L: small avocado, baby carrots, small tin tuna in olive oil
S: 6 almonds, one turkey pepperoni stick
D: leftover bacon wrapped pork loin warmed in bacon fat with morel cream sauce, few asparagus spears

After work spent the next 4 hours as mom's taxi service, ferrying the boys around - 2 back to back practices for one, home from the gym and then to a practice for the other. Managed to squeeze in my dinner during the short break when both were practicing. Hubby away again this week for 4 days. Normally I would also have my 12 hour hospital shifts this week too, but cancelled them to not risk stressing my back for now. Should be able to be back at it again soon.

Was planning to have some more of the lovely strawberry rhubarb crumble tonight, but I'm feeling full and rather bloated. Hmm, was it the amount of meat/fat at supper? Or the diet coke after getting home? Why the coke when I know better? Dunno. Meh. Suffice to say, no dessert for Greensprout tonight. Settling for a glass of chardonnay instead...yes, yes, need to get back on track there too. Be better to just get a good night's sleep, but it's still so damn light at 10pm. Plus if I go to bed early and leave the boys up gaming, they'll still be there at midnight and I'll have a hell of a time getting them out of bed so I can leave for work in the morning knowing they're awake and moving. Obviously in a bit of a blah mood this evening, no real reason why. Going to try to get up a few minutes early tomorrow to do my back exercises before work, we'll see how that goes...granted I could just close my office door and lie down on the floor at work and do it then...really, I could get away with it, but probably not ideal.

Okay, enough rambling for one day. More running around tomorrow, practice for son #2 and overlapping game for son#1...will be able to see most of the game anyway, after taxi service concludes for #2. Need to remember the bug spray though...got eaten alive tonight just standing at the park for 10 min picking up one of the kids. They do frequently note that the mosquito should be our official provincial "bird".

sometimes it's good to ramble! I love rambling on my journal cause no one listens in real life ... hehe, well they pretend to but I bet they dont.

Yes why the diet coke. evil. Even real coke is better IMO. you should have had a glass of wine instead. But I would say that wouldnt I.

I think it sounds like your back is getting better but you definitely need to take care.

So how fared the plan about getting up early for my physio exercises? Lets just say the snooze button and I are intimately acquainted. Long term relationship. So no early up as sleep from only 1140 till 0530 was not agreeable today. I do much better when I can allow myself time for a good 7 hours (or even a bit more), which is rare during the week. 7.5 is even better. Having to be up at 6 anyway is less okay when I don't get into bed early enough to get that. Ah well, personal problem, still working on that one. So I did end up closing my office door in the morning and doing my physio on the floor...heheh. Felt pretty good too. Did only one set of each, working up to three. Should do again tonight, but might not get there.

B: coffee with cream, regular smoothie (berries, spinach, protein powder, coconut milk and coconut oil)
L: my avocado was going a blt brown and yucky, so I scooped the remainder into halves of a green pepper then topped it with the olive oil packed tuna. Not too bad. Some baby carrots.
D: planned BAS with leftover pork loin. Between the dropping off and picking up (and watching game) of kids, managed a few pieces of the pork, 6 almonds, handful of radishes, slices of cucumber, square of G&B 70% dark choc with coconut oil (has an interesting appeal to it...more so today with the oil softer in the heat than last time with it more solid...not a "gotta have it" sort of appeal, but something, nonetheless). By the time I got home finally close to 9pm, didn't want the salad. Enjoying a big bowl of the rhubarb strawberry crumble with a healthy dose of heavy cream. Mmmmmmm. Kind of like a sweetish-tart creamy cereal - lots of coconut and pecans in it. Haven't run any calculations nor plan to, but it can't be horrendously high on the carbs, I don't think. A lovely treat kind of thing for once in a while.

Few more chores to get done before bed...if I choose to shut down the laptop that is...

B: BAS with greens, tomato, green pepper, few bits of pork loin, dijon balsamic evoo dressing, sprinkle of goat cheese, 2 eggs fried in butter (both double yolk). A nice change, put in a container and ate at my desk at work, kept me full till afternoon.
L: couple of slices of the last of the pork loin, needed something to take with my anti-inflammatory
S: one square of dark chocolate with coconut oil while on the run taxiing kids
D: late. Grilled rib steak (most excellent) topped with a bit of butter, mushrooms sauteed in bacon fat & butter with rosemary & garlic, garlic broccoli with butter. Some shiraz.

Wanted to eat all of the steak, but chose to leave some as I was no longer hungry. Got to gnaw on the rib bone from son's steak as well as my own, heheh. Was trying to leave room for the last of the berry crumble in the fridge, but think I'm full enough for tonight. Maybe have it for breakfast along with steak??

At work tomorrow we have a BBQ and potluck followed by games afternoon. Definitely predominantly non primal friendly fare. If I have a full breakfast, I won't be too hungry and tempted for all the crap. Planning to stick to okay foods only, at the very least there will be some sausage, cheese, salad and fruit.

Activity: hmmm. Not really, since Mom's taxi service doesn't really count for much here. Physio exercises.

Still need to work on the more sleep thing. I shouldn't be feeling tired in the afternoon, feeling like taking a nap. Note to self: get thy butt to bed.

B: coffee with cream, some coconut milk and a spoon of coconut oil to take with meds, later a few oz of steak & mushrooms
L: potluck. Had a reasonable plate of spinach salad (left rice bits added on the plate), 3 pieces garlic sausage, a bit of cold chicken thigh with skin, small spoonful of BBQ pulled pork, small spoon of some sort of beef casserole with peppers, raw veg, then only some fruit (some in yogurt dressing) for dessert. Not bad, lots of carb loaded choices that frankly didn't even tempt me. Not bad overall, was hungry 2 hours later.
D: 2 farmers market no filler added smoked sausages (one regular, one jalapeno) with spicy mustard, organic sourkraut, sauteed cabbage. Quite nice.

Now that my meds are finally done, (back is feeling better every day), I think I'm due for a good IF tomorrow. Haven't done one since before our holiday, so it has been nearly a month. Twice a week and then slowly adding back in more activity as my back (and physio and doctor allow) should do a world of good and get me back into fat loss mode a bit more efficiently. I'm pretty sure I have another good 10 lbs of fat left to lose before I get where I'd like, based on the flabby bits and excess flesh here and there. Of course end numbers will depend on how the muscle building goes too, as I'd like to add some more of that too. I've always been on the more muscular side, and like that look. Looking for more definition through the arms, legs, midsection, and more shape to the backside. In time, I think it's achievable.

it sounds to me like you and I have the same goals in mind for our bodies... those flabby bits that come with middle age are a pain in the butt aren't they Like you though, I definitely want to see my arms looking muscled up, tummy tight, and backside rounded (as opposed to flat). Its achievable for sure if we put the effort in.... if only doing lunges and squats and stuff was as easy as drinking wine is... perhaps thats a thought, 10 lunges, then a sip of wine, another 10, another sip... not a bad idea...

Suse, I think you may be onto a great idea there...unfortunately too good to be true!!

Yes, our goals are quite similar, though my flabby bits were more cultivated through the having babies years and then bouncing back and forth between totally unacceptable (to me) and nearly good. Currently within 5 lbs of my lowest adult weight, but even then, I still felt room for improvement on the muscle definition and tightness in the middle/bum/thighs. No reason not to be able to hit my best shape since the teen years in my 40s. They (whomever 'they' are) do say that the 40s are the new 30s...LOL.

Did great with my IF today. Total 19 hours, which is good. First one in a month or so, so wasn't bothered with 24 hrs, goal was to get to at least 18. Felt good all day, even though I didn't get any more sleep last night than earlier in the week, but alert all day and had plenty of energy.

Broke fast with 1 1/2 farmers market sausages, saurkraut, and a pile of veg stirfried in coconut oil with red chilis, sea salt & fresh pepper, and a splash of lime. Used broccoli, carrots, zucchini, green pepper and some scallions. Probably will eat some more later, have to go out in the rain and watch kid soccer game. I have butter softening to make batty's butter balls, so may make them later tonight for the first time. I think having a good high fat snack like that around will be a good thing.

Saw doctor today for followup, he's pleased with my progress, but still wants me to go slow as the muscles are still fairly tight. Overall, I feel quite good today. The IF is agreeing with me.

The butter balls are amazing! Made them after the game last night. Snacked on the last of the leftover steak, 2 butter balls, and 2 rum & diet coke (bad) and a small glass of really nice tequila brought home from last Mexican holiday.

B: 2 double egg yolk (yay) fried in butter
S: last of a package of creamed coconut (about 1/4 cup)
S: 1 butter ball, one turkey pepperoni, couple of organic blueberries, 3 organic cherries.

Going out tonight, good primal menu. Is a surf & turf theme, so fresh whole east coast lobsters with butter and steak (we get one of each). Usually there is also a chowder (will probably have a bit), some sort of salad, often caesar, and baked potato and rolls, which I will pass on. Will be some wine involved, then back to friends home for drinks afterwards for a bit. Have to be back out to kids soccer games in the morning, as we did today (the reason for the 2 snacks and no lunch...also leaving room to be hungry for lobster tonight!). Should be fun. The dessert served is often nothing exciting, so should be easy to pass by.

Last night's dinner was great. Caesar salad (I was amazed at the pile of croutons left on the plate), cucumbers & grape tomatoes, coleslaw, the lobster with butter, and a rib steak. Passed on the baked potato and corn on the cob. Did end up having a small piece of tiramisu type cake and a bite of hubby's chocolate cheesecake. Was okay, but really not worth the indulgence. Did indulge in wine, and a couple of 'special' coffees with canned whipped cream. Overall pretty good, and despite the sugar from the dessert and coffees, I didn't feel bad afterwards or this morning.

Made it to the farmers market for more eggs yesterday. They are so good, and actually cheaper than the 'organic free range' ones at the grocery. And I know these are fresh and come from chickens that get to run around outside pecking and eating outside stuff. The double yolks are just a bonus! Have to try out some clafouti this week, and think maybe I'll try my hand at making mayo too.

B: coffee with cream, 2 eggs with pancetta, mushroom and scallions.
L: some pecans and almonds, one butter ball, half cup of organic blueberries
S: 2 beer out in the sun (oops...but sure was nice at the time)
D: 2 BBQ's beef burgers topped with cheddar, avocado & tomato, big salad with dijon balsamic/evoo dressing.

Spent a lot of time in the sun at 2 kid soccer games today. First really nice day after a ton of rain. Too much vitamin D synthesis...ended up with very red shoulders and kind of red on the nose & cheeks. Funny thing is, it looks really red, but doesn't feel bad at all. I mean I can feel it a tiny bit that there is a bit of a burn, but from past experience, I should be feeling this A LOT. Decided to try putting on some coconut oil this evening, both on face and shoulders/arms. Absorbs in pretty good, I was concerned it would be rather slimy. We'll see how it is tomorrow, but am guessing it will look better. Funny the strange things that happen after going primal...

Younger son's junior high grad tomorrow, so get to dress up and partake in a questionable meal. Hoping there are still some burgers leftover (boys are home tomorrow, so may devour all the leftovers) for after in case dinner is inedible. If not, there's always bacon.

isnt it lovely when you have a really enjoyable meal, even when you do pass on some things that would normally make it just that much more so (potato in my case) Sounds like you had a good night.

as to the coconut oil, yes I've been trying it on my skin lately and its not too bad.. I was totally expecting to be a slippery mess. I've been using it a bit on my face lately, but I am noticing a few more breakouts at the moment, whether or not that is coconut related I dont know. But it is a lovely lip salve...

                                Yesterday:
B: 2 egg scramble in butter, cream with scallions and a bit of goat cheese, coffee with cream
                                L: 2 butterballs
S: small bite of beef burger leftover
D: graduation dinner meal was chicken parmesan...tried to scrape off the breading, but the chicken was so horribly thin that it wasn't very easy. Ate a bit of debreaded chicken, broccoli & carrots with butter, cheese from the top of the chicken, caesar salad, coffee with cream. Came home and cooked up a mess of pork belly and ate that.

Ended up dealing with some unexpected stressful issues last night, so resulted in a night of not enough, and pretty unrestful sleep.

                                Today:
B: coffee with cream, spoonful of coconut oil (not convinced I like it, but felt I needed the fat)
L: 3 small slices pork belly, 1 1/2 beef burger patties with 1/2 an avocado, tomato and a bit of goat cheese.
S: small handful of salty cooked in bad oil cashews
D: thick pork chop, mess of broccoli with butter, couple slices cucumber & 4 grape tomatoes

Sunburn is still red looking on the shoulders, but not sore. Have been keeping up with the coconut oil. I like how it works for softening hands, and really does absorb in quickly. Was out at kid soccer game tonight and practically needed a baseball bat to fight off the mosquitos. Good thing the city is fogging for insect control. I know many people have issues with the use of malathion and such chemicals for insecticides, but there are the west nile virus carrying bugs around here, so it's more a health issue than just nuisance control. This is a nasty season for those pests with all the rain we've had.
