  • I'm a daily weigher, I try not to be, but I fail. Of course you do need to realize that weight does fluctuate day to day based on hydration and other things. The trick is not to get all bummed when the scale reads higher than expectation. That's where the once a week or month helps for those iron willed individuals who can resist the temptation to peek. Since I can't, I weigh myself everyday, but record only the weight on Wednesdays.

    I chose Wednesday because if I overindulge a bit on the weekends, a bit of austerity Monday and Tuesday sort of erases it (I like to believe).

    • Buffalo chicken chilli sounds great! I also weigh myself everyday, but have learned not to be bothered by the fluctuation. As long as it stays in a general downward trend, I'm good.

      • "I wish I had a nice paleo dessert ready, but I don't... I'm feeling the need for something sweet. It is SO HARD to go into the pantry and see the stuff that I used to eat, knowing that I can't have any of it. I just went inside the pantry, and staring me in the face was a bag of mini Butterfingers. Those are pretty much my favorite candy bar! And then I saw a bag of my wife's custom blend of trail mix....."

        One of my favorite deserts is dates stuffed with goat cheese. You can find the recipe here Dates Stuffed with Goat Cheese - The Food Lovers Kitchen. Savoury and sweet and yummy with a nice dessert wine or all by themselves. I find the max I can eat at a time is 3 because they are so rich more would be too much. Another cookbook I have seen before but haven't picked up yet is "Paleo Indulgence" by Tammy Credicott. The recipe's look very yummy.

        • Laxatives are not great, but if you have to go for one of them, I recommend either Vitamin C or prunes. They are both fairly benign and nutritious aids.
          Disclaimer: I eat 'meat and vegetables' ala Primal, although I don't agree with the carb curve. I like Perfect Health Diet and WAPF Lactofermentation a lot.

          • Well, I took some Miralax, and I went, but I wouldn't say I am all caught up yet, LOL.

            Hey Primal, I will try the dates thing..... not really my "thing" but I am eating lots of stuff I never ate beforre, including butternut squash and sweet potato... ( just a wee bit of sweet potato ).

            • If it makes you feel better, I experienced a dramatic and permanent "dropoff in waste production" when I switched to primal. It freaked me out a little at first, but I'm saving a ton of money on toilet paper.

                Theres nothing wrong with weighing yourself everyday IMO. Doing it at a consistent time everyday will ensure that it's not affected too much by water weight and other factors. I've always heard the best time is about an hour or 2 after breakfast, don't have any facts to back that up though... course I don't even eat breakfast anymore LOL!

                • My daughter and I did a workout today... Finished about 5 minutes ago.

                  15 minutes on the bike
                  2 sets of a kettlebell movement
                  deadlfts
                  bicep curls
                  Knee raises
                  Some body bar exercises

                  All in all, about 30 minutes.

                  • Speaking of working out, I actually need to devise a plan, and not go all willy nilly. I also need to make sure my daughter doesn't get injured, as she wants to do some light lifting.

                    I don't have a bench anymore as it was ruined while I moved....

                    But I do have the following:

                    Free Weights
                    Olympic Bar
                    Dumbbells
                    Adjustable weight kettlebell
                    Curling bar
                    Heavy bag
                    2 Body Bars
                    Treadmill
                    Stationary bike
                    Knee Lift / Pull up station
                    and still in a box, one of those core stability balls
                    and a personal trampoline that I am too heavy to use, but my daughter uses.

                    I also plan to build a couple Plyo boxes, and a "Swoosh Bar".

                    So, I need to come up with a solid plan for 4 workouts a week.

                    I'm not gonna live forever, but I sure a heck want to feel like I can!

                      Yay, the laxative is working! Boo, it is working too well!

                      Overall I just feel kind of blah and cruddy today. No energy. No desire to move. Would just be happy to stay locked in my room.

                      • Part of the reason our waste elimination drops is b/c we're eating foods our body can use instead of throwing away. Just something to think about.

                        Looks like you're doing really well. How's the hand? Didn't see anything about it.

                        • The hand LOOKS great with a big clean scab, but it is still sore.

                          OK, Dinner tonight was a 6 ounce cheeseburger, between 2 portobello caps, and in between the caps was also organic greens, onions, and sauteed peppers. I didn't even mind not using ketchup or mayo, and I am a ketchup junkie.... a serious ketchup junkie....

                          • I had 8 oz (preweight) burgers mixed with bacon!! Yum. But I had barbecue sauce b/c that's how I roll... haven't found a paleo/primal version I like yet.

                            • So, I made a decision tonight.... I am just going to do my best with the "organic" or "grass fed" stuff. If I can find it and afford it, fine... if not, I will just make do. Also, I found out that I REALLY am starting to enjoy almond butter. At first I was really more against it than for it, as it wasn't sweet like peanut butter, but I don't even miss the sweetness anymore. Maybe that is a really good sign. For a snack tonight I had granny smith apple slices with almond butter on them. See, even my fruits are becoming less sweet..... I used to eat mostly bananas. BTW, when I say "make do" I just mean eat the same foods, just not the organic or grass fed versions.

                              • I rarely eat organic or grass-fed. Can't afford it at this point. Hopefully someday soon. I try to keep my omega 3's up by taking cod liver oil. *shrug* not sure if it's enough or not, but a budget is a budget... at least I'm not eating grains and a bunch of processed chemicals.
