  • I was amazed at how calm the chickens got when they got put in the cones. It's like they were made to be eaten.

Who says back fat is a bad thing? Maybe on a hairy guy at the beach, but not on a crab.

Chickens get very "calm" when you pick them up and turn them upside down.... they sqawk like the dickens when upright, but calm down when inverted....

Dude, you planted things. Things that will be and are food. That is way more than many people did today.

          • More productive than I've been maybe ever. (I never considered any of my jobs productive on any meaningful level.)

yeah, you are right... it didn't take long, which is why I concider it "not much"..... prepping the beds for planting took a whole lot more effort than the actual planting did... besides I has no bon-bons in the fridge and I dernt like the soaps.... so I stand corrected.... fargin orthopedic shoes....

I would never consider my job as meaningfully productive... even though it is a necessary part of the company's business..... the farm, on the other hand is totally meaningful and productive...... my work life is soooo bass ackwards!

What convenient acting creatures, if they knew what was coming, I doubt they'd be so convenient though....

Alas, I suppose the unmeaningful, unproductive stuff got to be done to help pay for the meaningful, productive stuff!

                      • Another busy weekend....

We babysat wee Jameson (yes, he's named after the whisky) on Saturday evening until Sunday night..... he's walking, and jabbering lots... and he eats..... bottomless pit the young on is.... I pity his parents when he gets older..... oy vey...

Saturday did so garage gym.... squated 225 3x5, benched 175 3x5 with much better control. Did a few tricep extentions with an e-z curl bar. Went in the house, and played in the kitchen. The wife, bless her heart, was making oatmeal cookies. When she finished, I trashed the kitchen making tamales. Most of them were a pulled pork. Made the sauce from dried chili peppers. Have never done that before... Tamales is a labor intensive project! They are good, but man, thats alot of work.... had a little bit of tamale dough left over, so I put it in the fridge.

Sunday- made some pancakes out of the tamale dough. A bit of experimentation, the first 2 were pretty thin, more like crepes, so I added more dough to thicken up the batter. The last 3 were more like pancakes. The flavor wasn't bad, but you would have to like the taste of corn to enjoy them. Basically, I added milk and an egg to the tamale dough to make the pancake batter. Added enough dough to make the batter the right consistency and fried in a cast iron skillet.
Spent a couple of hours out on the tractor cutting grass around the pasture that hasn't been cut in months. I started cutting on a field that hasn't been cut in nearly 2 years. Some of the weeds are about 6' tall.... slow going... and running over more than a few snakes.
                        Legs are sore from Saturday..

a few other ideas of what you can do with a bag of Masa.

How old is this little one?

Never tried tamales before. Will have to pin that page
You are more productive than 99% of the people I know. It is irritating that most of what we do for work "get paid for' is meaningless. I am blessed to have a job that is meaningful but requires ridiculous amounts of documentation and justifying myself to various government entities. You have figured out how to strip it down to the basics
You know all those things you wanted to do: You should go do them.
