  • Don't understand the term "gumboot" sorry, but I do make it properly with leaves in the teapot and love to drink it from china teacups. Yes I add milk, have changed from skim to blue top or even silver top since going primal.

When my dh makes for me he warms the pot and even turns it three times and all that and it is the BEST.

    • gumboot tea is just your normal run of the mill tea. dilmah vs earl grey or lapsang souchong etc. i actual think my mum used to take her own bone china tea cup when she left home for any reason LOL dad drunk coffee. and so do i. i do go thru phases of drinking tea and i prob should more. earl grey tea with cream is so nice.

      • Dilmah yes. It's my favourite. Not terribly refined taste I'm afraid.

I don't mind earl grey but it's not that fantastic that I would buy it regularly. Sometimes I like to try difft herbal teas at a tea shop, but again I'm just as happy with my usual brew.

Wow, your mum really was obsessed with the china! Cute.

        • My daughter turned down fizzy drink today. A primal action if ever I saw it.

When she left home a year ago I had never even heard of primal. Then I changed everything and she has come home to the new regime, lol.

She's pretty well on it as long as she is in the house, because she has no money and basically has to eat what I provide. I believe she is growing healthier as a result, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she's actually on board with it all. She is slim but was definitely carb-addicted.

Seeing her choose NOT to ingest the drinks (that friends brought over) showed me she is thinking at last about what goes in her body. Makes me happy.

          • That is a turning point.

Now I can't even imagine why I ever drank sodas or even juice.

            • Just came back from the supermarket with a chilly bin brimful of meat, meat, meat and some milk, cream and cheese.

Also piles of veges and summer fruits.

I almost can't wait to start cooking it all.

Menu Plan (has a strong lamb thing going on):
Mon - Pork steaks, Tue - Lamb spare ribs, Wed - lamb neck chops, Thu - beef brisket, Fri - roast lamb, Sat - beef chow mein, Sun - chicken drumsticks.

              • B: Fruit with cinnamon and cream (apple, apricot, watermelon).
L: Bacon and eggs, cheese pastry (non primal - my 20%).
                S: Dark chocolate, roasted almonds.
D: Minted lamb and peas, buttery mash (potatoes and carrots with parsley).

NB : Don't make waffles with apricots instead of banana. It doesn't work.

L: Courgette quiche, another piece of bacon, cucumber.
S: Mixed semi-primal platters - Apple and almond butter, rice crackers and cream cheese, cucumber and peanut butter, almonds.

                  • Just spent a couple of hours in the kitchen having a predominantly primal cookup.

First I needed to find a use for my jar of chicken broth, so I turned that into pumpkin soup for tomorrow's lunch.
I made coleslaw and a lemon dressing.
A fresh batch of primal truffle balls.

Big pan of beef stirfry for tonight's dinner and microwaved some rice for those who eat it.
                    Juiced a batch of grapefruit.
Sliced a watermelon and put in the fridge for chilled snacks.

And put the lamb bones in the slowcooker to make another brew of broth.

My various primal ingredients seemed somewhat uninspiring when I started, but once I got on a roll I kept thinking of new things to do with them and the result has been satisfying. Now I know what we're eating for the next 24 hours.

                      • Yes frenchie, mine would be loosely based on this recipe. They are great. I had a couple today and they fortified me for my netball game when I didn't have time for dinner first.

                        • I can wait for food now. I really can.

Spent all yesterday afternoon at the beach and came home with just 20 minutes before going out to netball. It was 5 hours since lunch so I had myself some cucumber with cream cheese, a truffle ball and cup of tea just to keep me going then went and played my game. Upon getting home, I found we had visitors so rather than eat in front of them I made another cuppa and spent a lovely evening with them. Finally ate dinner about 10pm, I did enjoy it but even by then I noticed I was not desperate to eat.

This must be what fatburning is all about.

                            • Yes, this is a benefit that has kind of snuck up on me and it's great. I don't usually try to skip meals etc, but nor do I panic if they are running late. I either have a healthy snack, or not, and carry on. Today's breakfast was so satisfying that I didn't even think about having lunch till 2.30 - I used to be an 11am girl, haha.

                              • Totally gorgeous two hour tramp in our fabulous bush today. The same rivers that we had to pick our way over a few weeks ago have run dry now, so no mud underfoot this time.

In other primal news, I am rejoicing because my sister has brought down her blood pressure since starting to eat this way.

And, from the kitchen, Blueberry Mousse: Dissolve 2T gelatine and 2T honey in just enough hot water. Add to food processor with 1 can coconut cream and about 1C or so of frozen blueberries. Blend till well mixed and pour into a glass bowl. Refrigerate till set.
