  • Ten miles! How long did that take?

    • It was like two hours and fifty minutes, I am a pretty fast walker and maintained a brisk pace. One thing I didn't take into account was water, I was pretty thirsty by the time I got home! Despite the weighing prohibition, I did step on the scale and I was 248.4, so sweated out 4 lbs of water, in round numbers. After drinking water and having my way with a poor defenseless watermelon from the garden, I was up over 250 again soon enough!

Dinner was a nice piece of wild caught $almon and a mixed tomato salad from the garden. Just about perfect!

      • I'm still not feeling quite right, no further symptoms, my Bataan death march didn't bring on the cold full force, and it didn't sweat it completely away. I was supposed to go to a pool party today, but I think I will skip it and keep quiet at home. I don't really feel much like eating, I'm lightheaded, headachey and a bit nauseated, but I'll make some eggs (ugh!) or something as soon as the troops leave for tennis lessons.

Maybe I'll take a short walk.

        • So I ended up making eggs, but I put some fresh jalapeño peppers in there. So if I had any concern about a sinus infection, I don't any more. The peppers roasted and drained my sinuses completely, I think my head is now so clear that memories of my childhood are coming unbidden.

SWMBO and Boy are going to the Outlaws without me. They actually leave Tuesday to spend the week visiting her Brother up in Maine. I was supposed to go, but work is intense right now and while I love my BIL and his Wife, spending a week with them is enough to make me want to run in front of a logging truck. Since they have those up in Maine, it is prudent of me to stay behind.

          • Lunch was some chicken breast cubed up and sautéed with some organic baby spinach. Dinner will be some pastured bacon cooked (stewed really) with cabbage. I got the idea from somebody's journal, only they did it with sausage. I'll probably also do up some sweet potato, complying with Siobahn's prescription to ward off carb flu, if in fact, that is what I am suffering.

I did a four-mile walk and felt okay. I much prefer walking in the dawn hours when nobody else is around. In the afternoon, everybody is out walking, jogging, strolling, rollerblading, cycling...particularly down near the beach. It's not that I am anti-social, it's just that I like solitude when I walk. Lately though I've been trying to sleep in a little more.

Oh well, the school year will soon be upon us, the summer people will be gone and peace will come again and the cooler weather.

            • Do be careful about overdoing the walking. DH did that repeatedly and now has what look like permanent foot problems. He was unable to do much walking this summer because he was practically limping. He is very much a more is more kind of guy and it has caused him problems more than once.

I've also been a give it all you got kind of person and I worked myself into chronic fatigue. Trust me, you don't want to go there. Moderation is a very important part of the primal blueprint.

              • Yeah, you're right. I've always pushed things, if a little is good, then a lot must be better, right! Walking is actually the only exercising I have done with any regularity, because I can do it. I tried sprinting, but at my weight, I was worried I'd throw a rod, or burst a seal, or (insert the automotive analogy of your choice here) and that would set me back.

Weight lifting is just boring to me, plus I am very muscular and really can build muscle easily, when I get down to a lower weight I will assess my strength training requirements.

So to be doing something I walk. The other day (the 10 miles) was to burn off a head of angry steam that accumulated during a difficult week. I do not expect it to be repeated.

Moderation. Another challenge for me :-)

                  • I hear you. As long as you don't do it regularly, it shouldn't be a problem. Walking is my favourite, and pretty much only, exercise too. I do want to start on something to tone myself up now though. My goal is in sight, but I'm not in very good shape. Have to figure out how to work around my various health problems.

Petronius was right. Occasional bursts of excess are not necessarily a problem.

                    • Well I slept really well for the past two nights. Walking a total of 15 miles over the weekend had that effect. Back at work, sigh... But everybody's tempers are muted. We have a big, overdue project looming over us and we're very busy, and our customers are very busy. Despite what the media might have us believe, manufacturing (at least my little corner of it) is quite busy. Last week tempers boiled over (not mine, but I was affected by it). This week is calmer. Whew.

I woke up, not hungry at all. I didn't even pack a lunch. But my cousin (whose pool party I didn't attend) brought me in some Paleo friendly food, leftover from the party.

                      • Yesterday, without intending to I IF'd until dinner. I just wasn't hungry at breakfast and though co-workers brought me in Primal-friendly food for lunch, I ended up not eating any. I took a walk during lunch instead. Tensions grew high yesterday around noon and it was nice just breathing the fresh air.

Even when I got home I wasn't ravenous, I had a big salad and a grilled pastured pork chop and some fruit. The mood is sombre and guarded here today. Small family businesses have their good points and their bad points. So far the past week has been a study in the dark side.

                          • Thanks! They have been very supportive. The company is owned by two sisters (second cousins to me). The business was founded by their Father, whose first employee was my Mother (they were first cousins). So we all grew up with each other and everybody knows everybody's business and personal business. Everybody is on some diet or another. I've been somewhat vocal about mine and they all think its Kookie, but another Sister (not involved with the business) has been eating a Paleo diet for awhile now so they get it.

                            • I have somewhat of the same effect from stress - I don't feel like eating when things are really stressful, unlike before. Actually I think it is a more rational response - when one is in the "flight" mode, one wouldn't stop to eat. Like when the lions were chasing you, you didn't go through the McGrok drive-in window.
