      • I have never understood one's ability to "nap". The only time I can sleep between getting up in the morning and go to bed at night is if I have a raging fever! I can lay down and close my eyes, but sleep does not happen. There is something blissful sounding in a nice mid-day nap............ maybe some day.

        • I think it is just something that is an ability, a gift if you will. I have always been able to lie down, close my eyes for 20 minutes, and then get up feeling like I've just had a full night's sleep. It doesn't last as long as a real night's sleep, of course, but it gets through several hours feeling pretty good. Through the years my various partners have been astounded by this. I will say I'm going to sleep for awhile, and then they see me half an hour later. "I thought you were going to sleep?" "I did. I'm up now." I have no earthly idea why some of us are like this and other people aren't.

          • I developed the ability when I started working nights 30 years ago. That and trying to get some rest when the boys went down for their naps!

            • Home from clinic. Was a fairly easy day . Tomorrow grocery store, rework paper, and the oft rescheduled spa day. Steak for dinner tomorrow. Leftovers tonight.

              • Up again at 0400 after 6 hours sleep deep>light. Anyone else noticing a trend here? So do I need more sleep only if its <3 of deep, because every day this week that I'm up at this time I've got 3+ hours of deep sleep. Need to research how much deep sleep is needed. I kind of enjoy the quiet and if it wasn't so hot outside (80 feels like 85, yes at 0435) it would be ideal to walk - with one of the dogs. Today I need to do better on my walking and eating. I've let corn tortillas slip in too many times this week. In about a week I need to go alcohol free, so need to drop my nightly glass of wine. Lots of goals, that I seem to set and fail to meet, since old coping is a habit. Just need 21 days to break a habit and with the surgery coming, I should be able to develop some new ones.

                • Had to take DS to work at 0530 as his car wouldn't start. Came home and had coffee. Then Juliet and I went back to bed and logged in another hour of deep sleep. Puttering around the house doing odds and ends. Spa in a couple of hours.

                  • when you wake at 4 am - do you have to go potty - or do you just wake up and feel AWAKE! ???? I wake up several times during the night - either need to get comfortable - adjust blankets - move hubby over to his side - go potty - get a drink of water.... the list is endless............ but I can always go back to sleep. I generally get in a good 8 hours........ but with at least 4 wake ups during that time. Is there something keeping you from falling back to sleep at 4 am?

                    • No, I'm awake. I try potty and re-positioning, but it doesn't work. I'm sure it's a phase and it will go away.

                          • Pretty toes!!! You could be a foot model if the Nurse Practitioner - ing thing doesn't pan out!

                            Do you wake up and your brain starts going and you can't go back to sleep? Have you had your cortisol levels checked? I used to do that............ I'd wake up and start thinking about everything I was fretting about...... taxes, death, kid troubles...... you name it. After about 6 months of adrenal support and high B vitamins I'm fine.

                            Look at me giving medical advice to you............... hahahaha!!!!

                            • Taking vitamin B drops daily. No, just am awake - not worrying about stuff. Thanks for the foot complement (not the first I've gotten). Wanted something different color wise today.

                              • Steak for dinner - I cooked two, sliced them, and the three of us shared. Baked potato, roasted Brussels sprouts, and butter sautéed onions. Tomorrow bacon wrapped hamburger steaks. I've got some broccoli slaw to use up and I'm picking up veggies tomorrow.
