  • I understand that but we all need different things to recharge. Does DH have a problem with it? It isn't like you are going to Austin to do anything wild and inappropriate. I say let go of the guilt, think about it and go if that is what your heart is telling you need. Women, especially moms, don't put themselves first enough.

      If I stay home, all the things I've put off doing around the house will be nagging at me - just like they are now, but I keep putting them off because I don't feel like facing them.

        He doesn't have an issue with it - we trust each other - our jobs certainly gave us plenty of opportunity if we had been so inclined. Guilt for the stuff I could be catching up on around the house - not that I've been inclined to so far this summer.

        • That stuff will always be there. Finish everything on that list and 10 more things will pop up! Come back recharged and you can start on them then. You and your mental are more important. And with all you have done, you deserve to treat yourself!

            Thanks V. It's easy to talk myself out of going, even when deep down I know I need it. Now to decide which hotel to stay at. I'm leaning toward in Austin.

            • There's always the option of making your getaway 2 or 3 days, rather than 5, if that feels more acceptable for you.

                Of the 5, two are driving to and back. So really only 3 totally away. If I stay any closer, I'm not sure I will relax because I'd still be in my "work-home zone".

                • My eyes are open and I'm sitting up, but I'm not really awake. Will do my conference call and go back to bed. The only thing I've got to do today, other than meet friends for dinner, is pay bills.

                      • Paid bills. With all the extra work I've been doing I've paid off 2 car loans and 3 credit cards this year. I will pay off a 4th and possibly a 5th by September. Yes, we have too many credit cards - but they were at zero balance until:
                        1. We moved
                        2. I had to travel for work
                        3. I went back to school
                        4. The boys were stupid - the major one that kept me from paying off monthly balances

                        I've got zero car payments (hoping DH 2003 Accord will last until 12/2016) and I'm paying extra to my mortgage on top of paying stuff off. It feels great!

                        • Dinner with friends went well. I had grilled shrimp with lemon butter sauce, jasmine rice, and brocoli. Had a Moscow mule (almost as good as the one in NC) and a glass of wine. Some bites of DH key lime pie.

                          • Paying off bills feels wonderful! We've managed to pay our entire monthly balance on our credit cards for about 10 years now. But, we use them wisely, and luckily have had no major emergency type things that required pulling out the plastic. I would love to get the Jeep paid off - but am working on the mortgage first. We refi'd in Jan. 2012 and since then I've paid it down $45K. Counting my blessings! Low interest loans are great! 2.75%

                            • Slept great, but didn't want to get up this morning. Regardless, I'm up, showered, drinking coffee, catching up. Have an hour before I've got to go to campus.

                              Today is presentation day for class. Hope to get grades finalized and turned in, but they aren't due until Tuesday. New group starts Tuesday.

                              After class, I've got to do the grocery store and Juliet needs to go to the vet. Burgers stuffed with blue cheese for dinner (new recipe, we will see how we like them). Hope to get last test entered into course starting Tuesday.

                              No hope of sleeping in tomorrow. I've got a conference call at 10. Then a massage, which will help me relax. The weekend is full of household chores that need completing. Next week is a mix of getting courses ready for fall, household chores, and teaching.

                              I'm glad the wise voices of MDA counseled me to keep my getaway. I think the beach weekend temporarily masked the deep need to recharge and get ready for the fall. I know after the last couple of days that I really need it!

                              • Class went well. I didn't get my grades in, but they are not due until Tuesday. I will finalize them this weekend. DH took Juliet to the vet - where apparently it's a mad house.

                                I'm sautéing onions to go with the burgers. Need to make something with pears, as I've got a bunch.
