    • Had a fantastic waitress tonight. Asked for a grilled chicken breast no rice no beans instead cole slaw and steamed broccoli. Plate came with corn. She took it back, had them recook chicken since corn touched it.

      I've been reading a lot on celiac. Many of the symptoms resonate. Insomnia - check, gas/bloating/bizarre stuff coming out/stomach pain - check, headache - check, asthma - check, GERD - check, weight gain then severe loss - check, back pain & muscle spasms - check. But only if I eat poorly - grains, corn, beans. I know corn and beans have nothing to do with gluten, but they are issues for me. Working on figuring this out and eating well!

      • I believe there is evidence of cross sensitivity with corn and legumes, pretty sure Mark has written about this at some point. And you may know from reading my journal that I am a gluten nazi and am not happy until all vestiges of the Satanic stuff has been purged from my food supply.

        • Slept 7 1/2 hours with over 4 hours light. Still feel pretty good.

          Knee pain needs to be added to my list with a check for today. Not sure why or what I ate that triggered it. Yesterday, as far as I know (keep in mind I'm not cooking the food, so can't be sure) nothing had gluten, legumes, or corn.

          Today need to get some articles from my office to read and get up to speed on. I also want to go by the Outlet mall. I never know what I will find.

          Face is slowly clearing up. No new places on face, arms, or back of neck. I've been doing body weight squats and wall/counter push-ups consistently. My thighs and upper arms are sore off and on. I don't feel like I've lost any weight. I need to add walk for long periods and drink less wine. I need to find a good substitute for wine. I enjoy the taste and I don't drink to feel different, except when traveling - I thought it helped me sleep better, but my UP says differently. So I'm still collecting evidence in my N=1 study (too bad I can't use it for my dissertation!!!).

              • Do you eat dairy? I can't remember. I came to the painful reality that dairy is not my friend. Once I virtually eliminated it, my knee pain went away. I'm not perfect, but I try to restrict myself to small amounts of goat dairy. I fall off the wagon when faced with a really nice artisan cheese, or a stressful night at work when I want a hot cuppa and forgot to bring goat milk. My knee reminds me to stop the next day! And if I eat a LOT (pretty rare) my forehead breaks out. (Oh joy!)

                Also, when I used to travel a lot I found to my great dismay that wine or alcohol within four hours of sleeping was counterproductive. Now that sucked!

                • I do limited dairy. I can do hard cheeses, sour cream, butter, and heavy cream without issue. I'd stopped yogurt and now remember why. Unfortunately I grabbed some from breakfast spread prior to remembering that it isn't my friend.

                  Funny it's your knee too! Haven't tried goat milk.

                  • Goat milk seems okay - I had tried raw cow milk with no success. I don't actually drink it, just use it in coffee or tea. It is wicked expensive. I haven't tried goat yogurt, etc. just because it is SO expensive. I mean, $4 for a little single-serving carton? No. But goat cheese - so good so good so good. And okay price-wise.

                    If you have never had manna of the goat, it is more acidic than cow's milk, and can have a more earthy taste.

                      I've had moderate luck with drinking sparkling water with lime in a wine glass when I try to do wine free days. Maybe it will work better for you.

                          Thanks Tomi, was time for a change.

                          Slept 7 1/2 hours split equally between light and deep. Woke up at 5 and couldn't go back to sleep. Getting ready to jump in the shower.

                          Full day of office paperwork. Will have to get up and walk around - Up will buzz - or I won't have any activity. I've got leftover steak and shrooms for lunch/dinner (since I will be at the office until 7pm ish). Plan on eating breakfast before I go to the office. Probably will get coffee on the way in also.

                              • Worked on research prospectus. Killed more trees, talked to two committee members, and talked with faculty all for dissertation. Submitted rough draft of prospectus for feedback. Worked on research course for summer. Listened to a few DNP student presentations. Back at hotel, in soft clothes, totally worn out. Mentally exhausted! Dinner in hotel tonight.
