      Toughing it out has no business in post op recovery. Having seen some of the best try to do so post combat injuries brought the point home for me. Regardless of reason for the injury (including surgical insult), pain is pain. And recovery is a process. Much easier to remember this on the clinician rather than the patient side. And remember to use coconut oil liberally to mitigate the constipating effects of the codeine.

      • Thanks for the coconut reminder. I've been taking my magnesium, which is helping. I will put some coconut oil in my protein shake from now on.

        • I'm not a nurse -- but I absolutely agree - take the T3! You're body will heal better if it is relaxed and unstressed. Feeling pain puts your mind and body under a lot of stress and it needs to be calm and relaxed so all its energy will be focused on the healing of all that upset tissue!
          1. Love ME no matter what noises are screaming at me, or who is trying to tear me down.
          2. Eat to heal
          3. Move to live
          4. Embrace today
          5. Live with intention
          6. Respect my body
          7. Cultivate joy
          8. Find my passion
          9. Meditate on peace in my soul

          • Took a T3 before bed and slept much better. Thanks ladies! Woke up and took 1/2 about 2 and the other 1/2 when I got up after 7. Drinking my coffee before putting on sweat pants and a zip up jacket to go to the PS. I braided my hair after the shower yesterday and it looks okay. No makeup until I have to. I've got some bleeding again. I'm so looking forward to getting that fixed today!

            It's raining here. Started in the night.

            DS is doing the grocery shopping today. Steak, salad, and probably potato to tonight. None of which require me to do anything.

            Depending on my energy level after the PS (I'm sure I will nap), I hope to read at least a few pages of my qualitative research book.

            • Just got back from PS. I've now got packing in my left side to assist in draining a hematoma that covers pretty much my entire left side. She agrees with everyone here on the T3s and gave me a new script for more. I'm zipped into a smaller garment, all of the mesh dressings have been removed, and other than the drain incision all my incisions look really good. I'm cleared for conference, as long as I rest as needed.

                            • Slept okay. Even spent some time on my left side hoping it would drain more. Woke up with dry outer bandage, but feel totally beat up from one side thru center to other side. Needless to say I took a T3. Sitting in sports bra and loose cotton nightgown while both garments wash. I'm not taking dressing off until I can do a shower after I finish my coffee. If its still draining, I figure sitting in the shower with warm water will facilitate. Then try packing and redress.

                              I've got a facial at 1130. PS wanted the neck massage to facilitate lymphatic drainage.

                              Mom got home yesterday. She is running a couple of errands for me this morning. DS did a great job grocery shopping yesterday. I read about 20 pages for school. Hopefully will get more done this evening.

                              • Showered and then I did packing. Went much better. Draining well. Having protein shake with blueberries and a spoonful of coconut oil.
