  • So far the day has included coffee, TV, MDA, autumn squash soup, water, nap (3 hours), steak and blue cheese salad, booch, housekeeper, more TV. I'm not really able to concentrate on reading yet. The guys are being good. DS asked what was for dinner and I said, "leftovers." Had no feeling of having to get up and cook. Tomorrow will put the pork butt that the butcher cubed for DS in the slow cooker with the chilie verde sauce I froze prior to surgery. My appetite is returning steadily.

      • Slept okay. Still using pain pills, especially to sleep. I've got to sleep elevated on my back and its not the most comfortable or natural position for me. I look forward to being able to sleep on my side again.

        Pork and chili verde sauce in slow cooker. It wasn't cubed - was cut into steaks. Just dumped it in anyway (with DH help), as it should cook down to shredable meat.

        Hope to read some for homework and shower today. Will need to plan a nap for after the shower.

        Juliet has figured out how to get up into my lap without stepping on anything painful.

        Not board with being home yet. Just would like some return of energy. I've got plenty to do at home!

          • Sounds like good slow and steady recovery to me. And once again, I remind you to think of what advice you'd give a patient postop after major surgery. Then follow that advice. Nurses really do make the worst patients (well, maybe not quite as bad as physicians ).

            You've been healing daily, the energy will come. Continue to sleep as needed, medicate, and consume all those nourishing foods you prepped preop.

            It's all good.

            • Thanks guys! Tonight the left side spot from drain started bleeding (again). DH helped me put a dressing on it and now have an iced gel pack going too. I knew I felt "icky" but not why. Could be I'm a bit anemic from all of this. Will think about it.

              Has anyone looked at the once a month paleo recipes? I've been skimming the site and think I will try their slowcooker month when I'm feeing better. I like the idea of being able to pull something out of the freezer, defrost, dump in slowcooker and its good to go. I will also play with putting together some oven meals. I used to do once a month cooking all the time when all the kids where home. I like not having to shop weekly. I guess I'm lazy!

              I'm charging my UP. I'm ready to see how I'm sleeping (especially on pain meds) and want to walk about 2 miles in the house daily (I don't think that is too much).

              • Slept 8+ hours deep>light. But keep waking up with headache. I'm ready to be able to sleep on my side again, soon I hope. Leftovers for dinner. Same ole same ole for the day.

                • Reading about your having to sleep on your back reminds of years ago when I had constant allergies and post-nasal drip and had to learn to sleep propped up on pillows. That was miserable and I'm glad it's over. And it will be for you as well. Walking around the house sounds like a good plan.

                  • So I've discovered (same as Siobhan) that I don't smell. This is a blessing, because to get out of the compression garment, shower, wash and dry garment, and get hooked and zipped back in is a MAJOR production. I've done it once. Tomorrow I will do it again and probably Thursday since I go to the PS for a smaller garment Friday.

                    • Slept right at 8 hours light>deep. Coffee x 2. Shower, hair washed and braided, laundry going. Need to pay bills and balance checkbook - will probably happen after a nap. Shredded pork for dinner.

                              • Slept 9+ hours deep>light. Still tired. Back hurts - can't wait until I can get a massage! . Need to do the bills and checkbook that got moved from yesterday to today. Steak for dinner with papas and salad. Hope to do some school reading.
