My Primal network is growing! Boyfriend is doing it with me, along with his other girlfriend, S. My kickass homeschooling Audrey Hepburnesque friend L. has been eating primally for over a year with her family-- the dashing and handsome B. and two precocious and gorgeous little ones. And magnificent and impressive Katie (see her journal!). That makes five other adult people that I can natter at constantly about Mark's Daily Apple and the primal lifestyle.

Also, I smell. I smell so bad. Ketosis is taking it's armpitty toll on my hygiene.

But! I feel strong. Strong. STRONG! It's easier to move around. I can do squats! I feel warm all over! My face looks leaner.

I can't stop reading Mark's Daily Apple. I just keep hopping from link to link, soaking in all of the information and becoming happily and joyously brain washed. I'm obsessed and enthralled and I want to know mooooore.

Today was a sprint day! Hepburnesque L. told me about Tabata sprints today as we walked in the park, and when I got home I applied that method to my own sprinting. It was quite successful! But... hard... hard... But way better than last week.

I'm so excited about the primal lifestyle guys. I'm on top of the world.

For reference, here has been my primal lifestyle over the last couple of weeks:

I eliminated all grains and legumes.
I significantly curtailed my consumption of fruit.
I drink one cup of coffee with heavy whipping cream and a spoonful of sugar in the morning.
I drink only water, except for the daily coffee and maybe one half-glass of red wine per week.
I have significantly reduced my dairy intake: I take whipping cream in coffee and in scrambled eggs. I also use butter in my cooking. However, I haven't been eating yogurt or cheese or drinking milk.
I have been eating tons of salad and equal tons of meat.
I take in sugar in two forms: one in the daily cup of coffee, the other in an occasional square of dark chocolate.

      Fitness:
Lots of walking. I'm walking nearly every day.
      I sprint once a week.
I strength train every other day.

      Wellness:
      I'm *playing*!
I'm getting in some sunlight every day.
      I'm sleeping more.

None of this is intended to be prescriptive. I don't claim to have any answers. This is just so I can look back later and review my progress and changes.

Coming from a sedentary lifestyle filled with mindless eating, I think that this is a huge improvement. I'm hoping to take a picture on Wednesday morning and post it so we can examine last week's picture and compare the differences.

Today I'm pleased because my core is sore. I must be doing something right! It's a rest day for me, which means that I *might* take a walk. And OMG tomorrow is Wednesday, which means it'll be time to take a progress picture!

On a completely! different! topic! I learned about kishotenketsu today and am inspired to read more of it.

I am in the middle of reading The Primal Blueprint for Busy People. The end of part two closes with a challenge to actually TRY THE TIPS and DO THE STUFF instead of reading and agreeing. So, okay, I will. I am going to try every one of the tips presented in this series of posts, and I will report back here when I do.

I just tried one of the tiiiiiips!

            Here's the tip, in full:

Tune out by stepping out – outside that is. Again, the wonders of meditation are unmatched, but here’s a quick tip if you don’t (or if you do) have a regular meditation practice. Go outside once a day without any intentions – no chores, no projects. Don’t pick up the kids’ toys on the lawn. Forget the gardening tools you left out. Ignore the sad state of your lawn. Just be in the moment and lose yourself in the natural world around you. Make the most of your ten minutes by lying down and looking up at the clouds – or the stars and moon. Channel your ten-year-old self, and just watch. Every other thought will melt away, we promise. (Seriously, when is the last time you did this? Talk about a Primal essential!)

I went out into my back yard. The baby's having a nap and it's a bit before eight in the morning. It's a cool summer morning, but not too cool. I sat in a chair and petted my orange tabby cat while my other cat, sleek, muscular, solid-black thing, looked enviously on and mewled his jealousy. I watched the orange cat's fur shed under my fingers and float off on the breeze.

To escape mounting tension from my IHATEYOUOHGODIHATEYOU cats (they put the "vengeful war" in "bromance"), I removed myself from their hisses and swipes and stood next to the pool. Gazing out into the yard, I noticed little green lemons growing on the lemon tree. That reminded me to check out the plum tree, so I walked across the patio and took a look. There are PURPLE PLUMS EVERYWHERE. They'll be ripe in about a month. There are tons of low hanging little plum fruits. There'll be a harvest, come late July or early August.

I also looked at my tiny baby orange tree. It's just a wee thing, so no fruit is trying to grow on its wee little branches--although it blossomed furiously earlier in the season. It's just growing along, greenly.

I totally just found a spot in my living room that makes a good standing workstation: A large box on top of my piano. I can set my laptop there and stand in front of it while I browse the Intartubes. I'm going to go plug it in permanently in this location OMGRIGHTNOW.

My Primal network has widened! It turns out that my hardworking mom friend I. from Germany as well as her husband are on the Primal bandwagon. It's so good that other friends of mine are into this.

On the other hand, do I lose iconoclast points? =P

My core and legs are pleasantly sore. I'm glad. It means that I'm doing enough in the strength training department.

Today I've been on a surprise IF; there's basically no food in the house. I'm roasting chicken with butter and Cajun spices however, so the fast will be over soon.

Holy crap! Coconut milk mousse with dark chocolate is really rich and satisfying. It took me three spoonfuls to be completely sated. Om nom nom. I resisted a lot of goodies at the 4th of July bbq--one of the worst days I've had, in terms of craving grain-based sweets. So I came home and like totally made the dark chocolate mousse. It was worth the wait.
