  • 8 Weeks Out - A Primal Powerlifters Journey

    If you're reading this, then I'm already dead...Kidding. Although I guess it is a possibility. I figured I'd try to get my journal on preparing for my first powerlifting meet. I'll be logging my workouts, perhaps some of the food I digest, and write stories about my sexual conquests and bank robbing.

    I'm pretty much already at the weight I'd like to be at. 130-132 at most. I stand 5'4 tall which immediately helps me out in the deadlift. I already posted a video of my deadlift personal record I set Monday to show my badass'ness and to cover up my insecurities. Here it is again though.

    This is last Mondays workout.

    Squat- 220 5x3 (first number is reps, so 5 reps with 3 sets across.)
    Bench- 170 5x3
    Conventional deadlift- 185x3, 255x3, 290, 325, 360, 375, 355, 340
    One arm db row- 70 10x4

    Was pretty toasted obviously. My back was so sore and I'm still feeling it a little.

    Tuesday I walked the dog, rowed 5,000m in 30min, and did facepulls 40 12x4

    Wednesday

    Front Squat- 165 3x3
    Press- 110 5x3
    Power Clean- 140 3x5
    Chins- 45x5, 35x4, bwx9
    GHRs- bwx 10, 8, 5.

    And today was rowing again except just 3200m in 20min and then facepulls again with same weight and reps as Tuesday. I also do some mobility and prehab stuff at home. I'll do rotator cuff and scapular work, trigger point therapy with foam roller and softball, and then some flexibility.

      Had to come to work a few hours early tonight, so wasn't able to get a complete workout in. May have been a good thing since my back was still a little tired from Mondays heavy deadlifts. Didn't have a chance to do my speed pulls or any assistance exercises.

      Squat- 220x5, 235x3, 250x1
      Bench- 170x5, 180x3, 195x1, 205x2(got stuck halfway on 3rd rep and so had to be helped.)
      And that is it for Fridays workout

      Looking forward to hockey practice tomorrow. Been a few weeks since I've played. And Monday I'll be trying sumo deadlifts out for basically the first time.

        Had hockey practice yesterday and then later spent some time in the gym. Haven't really ever done sumo deadlifts, so I practiced them with some light weight to prepare for Monday. I feel like I may be able to pull more sumo actually, so thats encouraging. Also did power clean and jerks for the first time properly. Just threw around some light weight mostly before I did the deadlifts. Unfortunately I have no sexual conquests to report this weekend...

                And todays workout consisted of suicide...by sumo deadlifts. Also, I had sex with a girl at the gym....in my head.

                Squats- 225 5x3
                Press- 115 4x3
                Sumo Deadlift- 185x3, 250x3, 290, 330, 375-same PR as conventional. 395...epic fail, then two singles with 315
                Seated Row- 135 10x3
                GHRs- bwx10, 6, 6.

                      I gots me a herecut today. I've gotta say I think I look pretty sexy now. After getting said sexy haircut, I swung by the gym for a little light work.

                      Rowed for 20min and 3200m.
                      Palloff Press- 50 8x2

                      Wanted to do facepulls, but everything was taken so I did a little lower trap work with the free motion machine instead. In order to take a little bit of a break from pulling, I think I'm gonna stop doing power cleans from the floor on Wednesdays. Gonna take some weight off and do hang clean & jerks tomorrow instead...cause I like jerking it. No seriously though, its fun to move a weight overhead like that. I'd like to get better at barbell snatches too. Dumbbell snatches are easy though.

                              Strength Exercise of the Week: Face Pulls with External Rotation | Eric Cressey | High Performance Training, Personal Training

                              It's a great exercise for shoulder health. I make sure I do them since I bench press.
