    Oh forgot this little anecdote.

    When I was at the coffee shop on Saturday, it was quite busy, and so I ended up in close proximity to a very chatty old lady. (87, as she told me twice... ) She had found out that I had walked quite a distance to get there, so when I stood to leave she encouraged me to keep walking, "gotta keep that trim figure." That is absolutely the first time in my life anybody has said that to me. I certainly don't think of myself as trim yet, although I do feel close. It was still very nice.

      After you've visited my journal already several times I finally got to your journal (keeping track of all my MDA-friends is becoming a part-time job ). I started at the same weight as you and lost the same weight pre-primal, lol! I'm currently at 156.5 lb and hope to loose another 16.5 lb or so. I'll be following your progress on CFS, as I have 2 friends with CFS (and fibro and gut problems and...and...and...), I'm hoping to convince them to give primal a try. Would it be ok for you if I sent them the link to your journal then?

        Nice to see you here, Candy. I know what you mean. I've already accumulated so many friends...

        Sure, that's OK. I hope I will have good enough results to motivate them.

        It has been kind of weird for me too to see how many women here have the same start and goal weights as me. So you started the weight loss before finding PB also? What a strange coincidence.

        When I first told my husband about my plan to try out primal eating he said, "Why do you need anyone to tell you how to lose weight?" I said, "I don't. I need someone to tell me how to feel better."

        Went out for a walk today and it went pretty well, despite that fact I haven't eaten all day. I didn't get light-headed or want to collapse when I got back, so I'm happy. Of course, I'm feeling pretty empty and hungry off and on, but I don't mind that. I'm in no danger of dying from going hungry for a day. I was quite impressed when I read Mark's series on fasting: I always knew it was nowhere near as bad as CW tries to tell you, but I had no idea it had so many physical health benefits. The spiritual health benefits I already knew about...

          Hey I saw where you asked for some Kale ideas and I have a 5 minute one that we adore!!

          Wah and derib the kale pulling all of those yummy leaves apart to bite size pieces. In a bowl combine a little OO Like a tsp or so with all of your favorite spices, we use pepper, himalayan salt, paprika, chili powder and minced garlic. Dump the leaves into the bowl and toss it around (I use my hands and massage the mix ito the leaves as it helps break down the enzymes for better digestion) then dump into a non stick frypan or iron skillet (my choice) and toss around on low heat until tender about 5 minutes.. YUMMMY and if you let the kale sit and marinate in the spices funtil your done with everything it taste even better!!

            Oh, that sounds good too! Assuming that I'm going to like kale, of course...

            Well, I successfully stuck to my fast today, so I'm expecting I will see a new number on the scale tomorrow, although I know that the next day it will be up again. As long as it doesn't go up quite as high as it has been. Although I haven't been lightheaded or anything, I have been unfocused. And cold. I did feel a little warmer when I got back from my walk, but the effect wore off and I've been feeling chilly ever since. Seeing as I had been feeling quite a bit warmer all the last week, to the point of dropping the thermostat several degrees, it has seemed strange to be cold all over again, despite drinking plenty of hot drinks. Ah well, tomorrow I will eat and presumably get back to the new normal. Might need extra covers tonight.

            I went to bmi-calculator.net yesterday and found out that with the frame I have and the lean body mass I have, 135 is actually on the low side for a goal weight. Heh. Always thought those "ideal" weight tables were out to lunch. In any event, I will be evaluating how I look and feel as I get close to the goal and will then decide what my own ideal weight is, whether it is higher or lower.

              Yup. Saw a new number on the scales... Cracked open my reward drawer and chose a scoop-necked black sweater with 3/4 sleeves and buttons down the back. Which I am gleefully wearing right now.

              I woke up this morning not hungry and raring to go. Well, what passes for raring in my world. This meant I got up at 7, cooked breakfast , washed the dishes right away and then puttered around putting things to rights in the living room while my son talked to me. I've been busy with a bunch of minor things this morning, and still not feeling drained. I could get used to living this way. Heck, discipline might even become a part of my life again, which could actually lead to accomplishments and all those other dangerous by-products.

                Judg, I can so relate! I find myself waking hours earlier than normal, taking care of chores around the house before my normal wake-time and feeling so energized for the day. It's a new me! My house has been clean...meaning presentable if guests happen to stop over...for 2 whole weeks! Usually, that would be 2 days before things would go to crap after I'd spend an entire weekend cleaning. It used to be that I wouldn't clean on workdays because the day just took too much out of me...but no more!

                  Are you dealing with chronic fatigue too, or the more common modern life-busy fatigue? Beating back either one is a great thing.

                    Hi Judg! My turn to visit your house for a little chat! I've read through you're entire journal - I do love your outlook on life. It is encouraging and uplifting! So, thank you for adding a little lift to my wings!

                    I think its great that your son is joining you on this journey. I have a 26 year old son - still living at home while he pays off his student loans. My husbands 2 girls are already out on their own, although younger than my son, they are living about 40 miles away and both in college. I wish I could get my husband and son to go primal with me - it would make cooking and shopping easier. But if I'm really honest about it - I don't buy what I don't eat, with the exception of the occasional package of Oreos cuz my husbands LOVES them! I cleaned out our pantry off all packaged foods, canned stuff and any pasta and crackers and boxed them up for the girls to eat. Its a little scary seeing so little food in the house - but theres no reason to have it if I'm not going to cook it! So - in reality - they both eat really close to primal cuz I don't give them much option - at least here at home - what they do at work I try not to think about. One of our employees tattled on my husband though - and told me that he always has a package of cookies on his desk! GRRRR!

                    I hope you continue to see an increase in energy levels - and an improvement in your sleep. I take natural sleep aids about an hour before I plan to hit the sack. Its called Silent Night, with Valerian. Natures Way makes it. It helps a LOT to relax me and get my body in the sleep mode. The "busy brain" is my problem now - if I don't shut down the thoughts I don't fall asleep. I also find it helps to drink a cup of Camomile tea, or whatever blend you like this is considered a relaxing bedtime tea. Obviously nothing with caffeine!

                    So how many weeks have been doing PB now? In the beginning you said you would give it a month - I'm wondering if you've passed that yet?

                      Judg, I have suffered from Chronic Fatigue for about 20 years and had never found relief until now. I pushed through...denying myself the pleasure of community because it was exhausting and struggling to make a living because I didn't have the energy it takes to be an entrepreneur, but all that is changing! Halleluia! It's so great to know that others are having similar results...whoot, whoot!!

                        Tomi, thanks for the kind words. The busy brain has often been my problem too. I've tried chamomile and melatonin and sleeping pills and... Nothing works. Except Nyquil, but really, I hate to take drugs, even over-the-counter ones. Fresh air and exercise, within my rather strict limits, do tend to work better, but sometimes nothing at all works. I just have to tough through those times.

                        I have set an alarm on my cellphone to tell me to get ready for bed at 9. I do find that getting to bed earlier rather than later is very helpful, both in falling asleep and in feeling refreshed. I try to be in bed by 10 if social or family obligations don't keep me up later, thankfully seldom.

                        And today is my two-weekaversary, so I'm only half-way through my first month. I haven't had results as dramatic as yours (wow, pain disappearing in three days) but I am encouraged, so it looks like I'll probably take this past a month. I'm curious to see if the first time I crack and eat a bowl of nachos or pasta if I will feel sick, like a number of others have reported.

                        Anyway, I'm feeling a little groggy now. I had a late lunch and then was feeling a little droopy, so I went to rest a bit and woke up about 90 minutes later. I should do a little aerobic dancing to wake up. It's grey and wet outside, so the walk isn't going to happen.

                          PamBam, first of all my congratulations on being able to tough through so many years and continue working. You are among the elite; 80% of chronic fatigue sufferers have to leave the workplace. I am so glad to hear that PB is making a difference for you, partly for selfish reasons.

                          I also had a very severe iron deficiency I was unaware of, and the two of them together had me close to bed-ridden. The iron deficiency is being worked on. Ironically (oh, I just realized that's a pun), that contributed to me being open to a new way of eating; when I read that iron supplements should not be taken with whole grain and dairy because they inhibit absorption, I just about flipped. I mean, they were a huge part of my diet. And I had been so successful losing weight by, in part, cutting back so much on meat. How was I supposed to improve my iron levels, eat more meat, AND continue to lose weight? I took my iron pills at night with some Vitamin C, but it bothered me that my supposedly healthy diet - I was trying to do everything right - had left me deficient. I don't think it was the root cause, that was probably pre-menopausal, but still... That was the seed of doubt eating away at my mind. And now I knew that I hadn't really found the optimal way of eating.

                          There was a lot of buzz over the last year or two about CFS having a viral cause, apparently that theory is now pretty well dead. Contaminated lab results and possible data manipulation. But there are other indications it might be auto-immune; which would tie in to the whole inflammation issue that PB addresses. That would actually be excellent news for us; if true, it would mean that PB could really play a significant role in changing our lives. I'm not going to wait for the scientific consensus; it is too easy to just try cutting out grains. At first the idea horrified me, but I figured I can try just about anything for 30 days. So here I am.

                          My doctor also has CFS. I asked her how she managed. She said, "I go to bed very early and have absolutely no social life." Oh man... I hope I can go back and tell her I've found something that works.

                            Private Judg reporting.

                            B: 2-egg omelet with cheddar, onions, garlic, and green pepper, a couple of pieces of roast cauliflower
                            L: baked sole, roasted cauliflower
                            S: maple-cinnamon cookie
                            D: BAS, ham, spinach, cucumber, tomato, pickled eggplant, avocado

                            Oh that salad was huge! I am still short on protein a bit, apparently and my carbs are still pretty low. I don't care. I'm stuffed. You can probably tell I tried Paleo Track today. I hit my calorie goal right on the nose, or as close as I can figure, seeing as so many quantities were just estimated.

                            I haven't exercised yet today. That nap this afternoon has really thrown me off. Once I've digested a while, I will try to do a bit of dancing.

                            Weight is down 2 pounds in my two weeks. Not bad at all, seeing as I really haven't been pushing it.

                              Great job on the days eating so far!!

                              A bit of news about CFS and Fibro. I was diabnosed with both within the last 15 years and at one time along with COPD and blown discs I basically lived on medications. Within 3-6 months of being grain, sugar and processed food free I was off all medication!! The only time I have any pain that is non injury related now is if I inadvertantly get some bad oils or undetected gluten like eating at an inlaws or a resturant etc. But it is seldom thanks to making everything at home and from scratch.. Total control over my food that way!!

                                Oh my, another one! And yet you guys are so active. Congratulations on getting med-free. That must have felt great!

                                In my case, pain has not been the issue, but rather profound fatigue. I actually started losing weight because I was too tired to make even a sandwich. Only time in my life I lost five pounds in a single week, and that with barely moving at all. I realized that my clothes were getting baggy, checked the scales and got quite the shock. A nice one. And I have been trying to find as many contributing factors to my fatigue as possible, and deal with them to the best of my ability. Eating Primal is the latest installment in the story. I hope my results are as good as yours.

                                Anyway, I do appreciate your posting those recipes for me. I will have to do a bit of shopping before I can make them though. What are coconut crystals?
