Sorry about your eye. Hope it clears soon. You can use OTC neosporin to help it heal.

    • Wow, that sounds wonderful! That would be a great takeaway dish dish to make sure I can have something primal.

Huge thrift shop score once again. Two pairs of Levis cords - fashionable style - not skinny jeans but form fitting - in chocolate brown and bright red. Yes, I got my red jeans! Love them! They appear to be new, no sign of wear. AND a truly beautiful Talbots twin set, chocolate brown with gold pattern, cashmere and silk. New with tags, $6. I regretfully left behind a very nice green cotton twinset. It was just too small, but it looked great with the red cords. I'm never going to wear size small unless I have a breast reduction. And I'm not having a breast reduction, not voluntarily anyway. Also got a fun hat and two plates to go under my plants and a pair of lace up chukka boots that are lined with sheepskin - will be very good for wearing to the pool. I'm a little uneasy about leaving my expensive boots and shoes on the rack at the Y - I don't own any cheap footwear. Now I do! And they are actually kind of cool, very unlike my normal footwear which is decidedly frumpy. This entire haul cost a whopping $16.

Started my day with two fried eggs, the last of the roasted red pepper sauce, and three pieces of bacon. Two cups of herb tea. Just had a square of chocolate. Have to rest now for work tonight.

The power outage had an unfortunate effect yesterday - the local grocery, Hannaford's lost power and their generators failed. ALL the coolers and freezers were out. The waste! Makes me ill. And the sad thing is that they were unable to sell the stuff - the law does not allow them to sell from nonworking cooling equipment. I can see the wisdom in that, but honestly, all that food gone to waste. Literally enough to feed the entire peninsula for a week. So sad. All those animals died just to be thrown out.

      • At work, busy busy busy. I'm really bummed because the jazz program I listen to on the radio isn't being streamed online since the radio station changed hands and so I can't listen to it. (Radios don't work in here.) I emailed the DJ a coupla times, that made me feel better. He played some requests for me even though I can't hear. I hope they start streaming again soon. The DJ told me to tell the patients to put on some classic jazz, get out of bed and dance! He doesn't know how right he is. More music, more dancing, more happiness, less cigarettes, less booze, less negativity in their lives would do more than all those pills they take.

        • Well, obviously I need a support group. For some reason I purchased and entirely consumed a gluten-free pumpkin mini-pie. I did this knowing that rice and potatoes are just about as bad for me as grains. The unpleasant symptoms are many. For one thing, I smell. After not being smelly for ages, I can tell you with great assurance that I smell. In fact I can hardly stand myself and need to get right into the shower. My hands are swollen like I'm wearing clown gloves, and they are red and itchy. My feet, knees, and elbows ache. The heartburn that I had before I went to sleep this morning has thankfully gone, but I am foggy brained beyond the normal tiredness. I'm not mentioning the IBS systems. Of course you know why I did this, don't you? Because sugar is like crack to me. I had a couple of candies that someone gave me in the spirit of Christmas, and that led to a binge on the stuff. And it was easy to tell myself the gluten-free pie was a good choice because...well. no reason really.

Why doesn't anyone ever offer me a pork chop?

            • So sorry you are not feeling well. On the other hand, it might make it easier to resist temptation next time.

I have never had fried bananas in any form. What sizes are suitable? Although I am trying to keep my carbs pretty low, this sounds like a good occasional indulgence.

I envy you your thrift store haul. Someday I am going to have to come visit you, just for the shopping's sake, LOL!

So I take it you are not going to be going to visit any family for Christmas?

Yes, nothing says love like bacon!

Saw "The Hobbit" this afternoon. I would say it is only loosely based on Tolkien's classic work. Entertaining, though a bit exhausting at the end. Which isn't really the end. But it was worth $9 and three hours of my life. I give it a strong 'okay.'

I am pleased to say the stink is gone. I'm fresh smelling again! It was not my imagination, either. I put my clothes from the hamper in the washer, and then got the pajamas I had dropped on the floor when I took a shower - the smell just about knocked me over. That sh#t I ate was bad news!

Got some pork chops and a steak. Also came home with a pound, yes a POUND, of salmon trimmings. Free. I put the lamb chops in the oven and made up Mark's parsley mint sauce from Saturday. I will report back after I eat it.

                • The parsley-mint-lemon-anchovy sauce gets a big thumbs up from me. I ate all five lamb chops. And I have to admit I'm happy about that. Also a big bowl of leafy greens with lemon juice and walnut oil. Am having a cuppa herb tea.

                  • I'm glad you've bounced back so well from your pie face-plant. And now, another sauce to try. I just had lamb, also, but with leftover cilantro-sour cream sauce. Very tasty. Threw the bones straight into my crock-pot of stock.

                    • I'm really happy with these sauces because they are different from my usual, which is some type of cooked sauce using broth and butter. Not that those are bad, but I am happy to extend my repertoire and also to use lots of fresh herbs which I feel are nutritious and also great mood-lifters in these dark winter days. Chopping up mint and basil is better than any air freshener or perfume you can buy.

I have to shop carefully today as all the stores are closed tomorrow. Well, we really only have one grocery store. I think I have just about everything I need. I got a large porterhouse yesterday and I think I'm going to have that instead a rib roast. It's hard to find the right sized roast, they are really, really, expensive, and a porterhouse is just as good for me.

                      Off to swim now!

                            • I have all of those things! I wish I could have all of you over here for a Christmas Eve lunch! I just made some primal cashew chicken. Chopped up some chicken thighs, cooked them, made a sauce with cashew butter, chicken stock, fish sauce, ginger, onions, garlic, red chili flakes, honey, lime juice, apple cider vinegar. Garnished with chopped scallions, cashews, and cilantro. This was accompanied with a glass of prosecco livened up with a wee splash of Drambuie. Not too much because I'm singing tonight.

Been warbling carols all day, I'm going to be hoarse! Started off the morning with a swim followed by listening to the service of Lessons and Carols from Kings College, Cambridge, which I listen to every year. Off to the shops and much purchasing of food happened. Then to Rite-Aid, where I bought many unnecessary things, including a very cheap necklace that will go nicely with the sweater I am going to wear tonight. This is utterly ridiculous as I will be wearing a coat and then a choir robe and no one will see what I'm wearing. Oh well, I will know.

I dropped all my goods on the floor at Rite-Aid and someone actually helped me pick them up. Can you believe it? Must be the Christmas spirit. And I dropped them BEFORE the prosecco. They have these newfangled handbaskets, with wheels for some reason. Seems like if I wanted wheels I would get a cart. Anyway.

I found a perfect-sized, perfect-priced rib roast, so I guess that is what I will have tomorrow! Can you believe the rib roast was the same price as the chuck roast? Maybe I should have the porterhouse for breakfast and the rib roast for dinner?

IF'd this morning and so my swim was fasted - forgot how good that feels. That's my New Year's resolution - bring back IF! I've gotten away from that lately.

A Very Merry Christmas to all of you!
