  • Well, you have been busy, haven't you? Yes, I think all that activity counts as Moving Slowly, for sure. You were on your feet and moving, quite a lot too. That's the beauty of it; we can just incorporate it into our lives quite often. In my case, it's chasing toddlers or walking to do my errands. The chasing toddlers involves a fair bit of Play and also Lifting Heavy Weights, so I kill lots of birds with one stone, LOL! No way I try to do exercise on top of that!

Sounds like your MIL really is very sweet. You are lucky to have her.

Great journal. I am in awe of your progress on so many fronts.
Just wanted to chime in on salad dressings. Simple can be so good. A little oil, a splash of vinegar, a pinch of salt and just beat it all together with a fork. Herbs or mustard powder make nice additions. If you don't like olive oil for flavor, maybe see if you can find avocado, hazelnut or walnut oil. They are a bit pricy but still way cheaper than commercial dressings. Lots of flavor so you really don't need much. I made salad for three last night and drizzled maybe a tablespoon of oil over it with a little salt. I had lots of tomatoes so didn't even need to mix in vinegar. Walnut oil with sherry vinegar is a classic for lettuce. A citrus vinegar with olive oil is awesome on spinach.
Another option for chunkier veggies is a mayonnaise type dressing. Beat a few yolks in a bowl with a little salt and mustard powder or spices as desired (tarragon is my favorite). Beat constantly while slowly adding olive oil until you achieve the desired consistency. If you add oil too fast, it can curdle but you can easily fix by beating in another egg yolk. Really nice with fish too
      Have fun experimenting!

How very very yummy! Thanks for the post.

      • Saturday was a great day! A lot of driving, but we had fun. 360 miles total..... 2 meals out and I still made my calories and macros goals. No junk food in the car! It was good.

Church this morning and then a little grocery shopping. We're cleaning the garage and rearranging - making room for 5 tons of wood pellets to get us through the winter! Need to wash the salt water off the boat and get her ready for one more little excursion that we planned yesterday. Our anniversary is the 13th of October, so we're putting the boat into the Willamette River near Portland, then motor up to the waterfront and eat at the restaraunt that floats on the water! We're taking 2 other couples with us. should be lots of fun. So, the boat isn't getting put to bed yet! yeah!

Had a big breakfast - might not need to eat again today. 3 very large free range eggs - 3 strips of bacon - and about a cup of hashbrowns - and a small bottle of Simply Orange. I'm stuffed. We're supposed to be going to for a bike ride....... but the Seahawks are on tv -- so not sure I'm going to get hubby to leave the house. OH wait --- I just heard 2 minute warning! I'll go get bubbles ready!

        • Well, the bike ride never happened We washed the salt water off the boat, then started in on the garage. UGH! That took us many hours and we were both tired and aching by the time we were done. But the garage is clean and we put a pile of stuff by the curb for "free"! I see there is still a box out there - whats left at the end of the day will go to the trash. It always feels good to clean up and weed out what has sat for years without being touched. NEXT big project is the shop! UGH...... now thats going to be quite the project!

I stepped on the scale this morning and was very pleased to see 184. So even though I only did 10 straight days of the 21 day challenge I still lost 4 pounds. My goal for the 21 days was 6 pounds. I guess my strategy and goals for calories, macros and movement are working. I am going to continue with the same goals now that I think I have found the formula that works for me. 1200-1400 calories, high fat, moderate protein and VLC with 4-5 hours of slow steady movement per week. No alcohol, no sugar and no grains/legumes. I've reset all my charts to restart the process as of Sept. 26, and I plan to stay on track for the duration. I'm giving myself "cheats" as Judg has suggested --- every 2 weeks. I know I won't make it 100% in every single catagory --- but I'll do my best to reach for that.

Food yesterday: BIG breakfast - 3 eggs, 3 bacon and hashed browns. A bottle of pure OJ, no added sugar, made from fresh juice, no concentrate. A snack of almond butter. Two ounces of chicken breast from the curry pot. Total calories 1226. I was a little higher than I'd like to be on the carbs, and a little too low on the fat. That was due to the hashed browns I'm sure.

Monday again. Hubby is back to Bible study now so mondays are long days for me! He gets home about 9 pm. But he so enjoys this bible study group so I love that he goes. I wish I had the same kind of group with women.

I'll start on the recovering valances project today. I need to get more staples so I don't know how far I'll get though. I need to stop at Home Depot on my way home from work and pick up more.

Boring.......... sorry. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are doing well!

Thank you! I'm pleased to be at the lower end of the 180's after 9 months of hanging around the lower end of the 190's! I wish someone would take notice that I've lost weight......... so far not even hubby has said anything. I started at 206 a year ago, so I'm down 22 pounds. I suppose when you take it off this slow people don't really notice.

well, I haven't really thought about what kinds of cheats. I would probably allow a rum/diet coke night. Maybe something with sugar - like dark chocolate. I don't cheat with grains unless its the rare cookie that I can't say no to. I may consider playing with making a batch of cookies using almond flour/meal. Then the only cheat would be the sugar. I sorta consider white potatoes a cheat as well. But I will do those in the form of hashed browns with breakfast maybe once a month. I'm not terribly strict on sauces like ketchup or salad dressings - I avoid them, but they aren't totally nixed. If I'm having a ground beef patty I will certainly put a few TBs of ketchup on my plate. And since I can't seem to find a vinegar and oil dressing that I like I will continue using my honey mustard or ranch. I don't eat more than 4 or 5 salads a month so its very minimal on the bad oils.

I need to think about what I will use as a cheat............ a plan would help me stay on track and have something to look forward to!

Hash browns and orange juice. It's far healthier to eat an orange than to drink the juice. The sugar concentration is much higher in the juice than in the fruit and is not buffered by the fibre, which causes it to hit your blood stream more gradually. I'm afraid I'm at the point where I consider fruit juice a cheat too. I cheated yesterday. Forgot about mentioning that in my journal. Had some sparkling grape juice with my lunch. It seems I've been doing a lot of little cheats lately. Time to follow your example and RESET.

                • Yes - I do consider juice to be on the rare list. I buy Simply Orange - not made from concentrate - is just pure orange juice with no added sugar. I will have one maybe once or twice a month at best. I tend to crave juice in the fall when the weather is starting to change ......... weird.

Yes sometimes we just have to start fresh! I'd say a reset would be good for you. You'll have those last 12 pounds off in NO time!

My RESET is working good! and my daily tracking and charting is good for me. Keeps me honest - and I strive to have all those numbers in the goal range and have all the boxes checked on my goals list! I must have learned the benefits of getting the "gold star" while in grade school!

Having my 3 eggs for breakfast - then I need to scoot to get ready for work.

                  • So happy to see you on a roll, Tomi! Isn't it funny how afraid we can be of depriving ourselves, but once we put ourselves to it, we are much happier than we are when cheating?

Congrats on your new low, and keep up the good work! Don't worry, people will start noticing. It's true it takes longer when the weight loss is gradual, but that's okay. The compliments are not the goal, just a side benefit. You are happier and healthier than you were, and that will only continue to get better.

                    • Thanks Judg -- you're right!

I was PLEASANTLY surprised when I stepped on the scale this morning ---- drum roll please............. 182.6 !!!!! and I stepped on and off 3 times - same number. I'm excited beyond belief! I have noticed the tummy roll getting a bit smaller so it must be coming off my mid-section FINALLY! Now I get to change my sig to a new low! YEAH! I'm starting to think my thyroid has been causing more trouble in my body than just the diarrhea issues! Dumb doctors! 5 years of diarrhea - 12 years of being obese - and none of the doctors I saw thought to try raising my thyroid function? Sheesh! At present I am slightly "over compensated" -- but I feel good, I have more energy and everything else is falling into place as well. I think I will stay on the edge of hyperthyroid! works for me.

Last night hubby came home and handed me two tickets to this weekend's Oregon State vs. Washington State football game! SUITE SEATS! A customer gave them to him. How fun!!! So, Saturday we will at the game in STYLE! Need to buy hubby a new OSU shirt today.

Yesterday I got a little in the afternoon -- must have been the farmers home grown eggs that made me sick. My son said they made him sick the day before. Bummer! I had to throw them out. There were only 6 left.

So - yesterday was 3 eggs for breakfast. Salmon, shrimp and steamed veggies for dinner. Almond butter snack. Today I may fast until after work, then dinner will be left over chicken and I think a sweet potato - or an acorn squash. yummm

                        • Just went back to the beginning of my journal and read a couple pages......... funny ---- I was stumbling around trying so hard to find just the right combination of calories and macros - exercise and fun - and complaining about the scale not moving!! Seems not a lot has changed since the end of March! But I am weighing less so I must be doing something right.

I stopped at the store and bought 2 new OSU t-shirts to for hubby and I to wear to the game on Saturday! I'm so pumped!! I hope they win! We went to a game last year for part of our anniversary weekend and they lost.......... it was so sad! They didn't have much of a team last year - all very young players and not very experienced. This year should be better. So far they are doing good. Now if we could just beat the Ducks in the civil war game that would be AWESOME!

Waiting for hubby to get home. He had to run an errand after closing up the boatshop - and the errand involved stopping at his best friends house - so I'm expecting he will be a while. I might just go ahead and eat dinner without him. He'll just warm up a plate of curry and rice anyway. I'm having left of chicken and a sweet potato with lots of butter! but I'll have to settle for cinnamon cuz I can't do the brown sugar. Sad day........

I bought staples for the staple gun so I can start that project of recovering the valances for the 5th wheel --- but now the staple gun isn't working. Its very old and a bit rusty so I think I will have to go back to the store and buy a new one. Bummer.

My Zeus is walking very stiff legged today, and he has a large cyst on his side that may need to be removed. Its about the size of a walnut right now - but it is growing rapidly. If I could make the decision totally on my own, I would have him put down in the next month or 2. I can't see him making it through the cold winter temps with his hip dysplasia getting so bad. Breaks my heart cuz he's my baby. He's a good dog - except when he pee's where he's not supposed to!

No more dogs for me --- I've cried over way too many in my lifetime. I had a wonderful Standard Poodle many years ago - his name was Claude, and I rescued him from the Human Society. He and I bonded immediately - from day 1 he knew he was my dog! I had him for about 4 years when he got sick with Lymphoma. When I had to have him put down I felt like I had lost my best friend. I mourned for years! And I still cry once in a while....... he's been gone for 13 years now. Still hurts.

Friday my neice and her daughter are coming to visit! I'm so excited! My GREAT neice is 16 months old and her name is Quinn Caroline Nani Sing. Caroline is the grandmas name - Nani is Hawaiian for grandma, (the other grandma) and Sing is the last name. She is a doll baby! I can't wait to spend time with them.

I'm up late --- I went to bed at 10 pm but was hungry, I ate 9 oz of chicken at dinner, but had NO carbs. I should know better. I don't sleep if I don't have some carbs in the evening. So, I'm up eating a sweet potato. And I went a little over on my calories for the day. oh well.

Tomorrow is my weigh and chart it day............. feeling a bit nervous. If I have a "re-bound" day from this new low then I won't make my goal and I'm really wanting to make my goal. Need to sleep..............

                          • I'm so sorry to hear about Zeus. We went through the same decision earlier this year with Abigail, our 14 year old schnauzer. It was hard, but in the end it came down to she was starting to suffer and that was not fair to her. Our vet did a great job. Gave my youngest (he came in town specifically to be with Abby at the end) plenty of time to say goodbye, fluffy blanket on the exam table, they had started an IV earlier so he just had to put in the medication, explained exactly what would happen, plenty of time afterwards. Two clay paw print rounds with her name and dates of birth and death and a condolence card about a week later. He and his staff were very caring and supportive throughout the entire process. Sending thoughts and prayers your way during this difficult time.

                            • OH........... got a lump in my throat after reading that, Pedidoc!

Better change my train of thought or I'll be crying.................

OKAY!!! About to go for my walk and the wind is blowing like crazy this morning! I'm seeing people with coats and gloves so I had best bundle up a bit.

The scale............ UGH! I think its possessed by a demon! Today's reading: 184. I must have been 1.4 pounds dehydrated yesterday. But I'm leaving the 182.6 on my sig cuz it really was there yesterday! I'll get back there again. I honestly believe I've found the right formula for my body to give up the fat! FEED IT FAT! weird. Who knew? Well, apparently Paleobird knew since she's the one who started the Eat Moar Fat thread.

Overall numbers from yesterday: Calories 1581 Carbs 16% Fat 54% Protein 29% I prefer to stay closer to 10% on carbs, but that sweet potato pushed me over. Before I at it carbs were only 6%. I wish they didn't have so many carbs cuz I LOVE them. But, one a week is okay.

I took out some fresh (frozen) tuna for dinner. I think I'm going to try cooking is on the "set it and forget it" cooker. Rotisserie thing. It makes yummy meat! Although I found that the chicken I baked in the oven, breast side down was even better.

I'm sorta brain dead today. Stayed up too late last night watching HGTV. But I slept until 9:30!!! Time to go walk...... have a great day all!

                              • 35 minute walk. I aim for an hour - but I think I'm overdoing it at that length. My knees start to hurt and then I have achy legs for the rest of the day - so I'm changing my strategy a bit. 45 minutes max - but I still want to do 3-5 hours per week of walking or biking.

The wind is blowing this morning! My pond is filling up with leaves so I will have to do some skimming after work. We never did the pH balanced in the pond water - so its still green. Next spring we definitely have to put in a lot of plants.

I asked hubby not to buy any rum for a month - he agreed. Maybe we can get out of the habit of having it at home completely. I would LOVE that. Nasty habit.

Gotta get ready for work - wish I could stay home today.
