  • We had a very interesting day yesterday. We finally got our plans set when hubby got home at 5:00 pm. We loaded up the food and some clothes and headed for the boatshop - where we picked up BILs new used boat. Its oversized, and he hasn't got his oversized load permit yet - so we had to tow it with our truck. He followed us with our trailer. Got to the boatramp - put in his boat and he started across the lake to the marina........... but stopped half way. Good thing, cuz he was supposed to leave me his keys to his truck and he forgot.... He came back to the dock with engine troubles. One engine wasn't working.......... I won't go into the mechanical details, but after an hour of working on it at the dock they decided to pull it back out and take it back home. In the meantime we were approached by 4 young people asking if we wouldn't mind going out to the island and picking up one of their friends who decided to go to the island on an inflatable raft - that sprung a leak - and it was a good mile long swim back. He was stranded. It was getting dark. The sheriff had already left the lake for the night. We told them we would happy to go get the boy when we were able to get to our boat, but weren't sure when that would be. It was nearly dark when we saw a boat going past the island, and suddenly slow down and turn toward to island. He had waved down a passing boat and got a ride to shore. We pulled out the boat and by the time we got to the marina and down to our boat it was nearly 8:30. We were hungry!!! I had taken some roast beef and baked beans. We ate, talked a while and went to bed. Exhausted!

This morning we got the boat ready to pull out.............. SAD DAY!!!!! boating for the year is over for me. Hubby still has his boat trip with the guys - but I'm done for the year.

    endofseason.jpg

She's a big one! We had the best summer ever having this camper on the water!

Food-wise........... not terribly bad, but I did have the baked beans. So not primal. I've totally blown my low carb plans for the past 3 days. With hubby leaving Thursday I should be able to stay very primal for the next 2 weeks! Thats good. I don't think I'll be seeing that 186 on Wednesday. Bummer.

Tomorrow night is hubby's bible study fall kick-off BBQ at our house. Its a bring your own meat and a side dish event. Hubby asked me to make my bean/bacon/beef casserole. I think I'll stick to just steak for my meal. I'm hoping someone else will bring a salad or some fruit.

I will get bad on track tomorrow morning - and stay on track!

    • Nice boat... even nicer truck!! I love big Ford trucks! Brad has a 2003 (I think) F250 with the 7.3L diesel. Love that truck. Big and loud and full of testosterone! lol

I'm sorry your relationship with the stepdaughters isn't better. I have a great relationship with my stepmom - in fact, I talk to her and spend more time with her than I do my mother. Mom and I just never really built that bond back up after my teenager years where there was a constant power struggle between the two of us. But stepmom and I have always been pretty good friends. Mom and I get along, but we only talk maybe once every two weeks or so and it's usually just to relay information instead of chatting - except during racing season. We sit together at the races and chat a bit then, but not like she and my sister do. Wicked StepMother and I have always been close (that's what we call her as a joke). Better you weren't there. I'm sure the ex-wife and SD would have teamed up against you and just produced more drama than necessary for the task at hand. I would have preferred to do yardwork too.

Hopefully some day I can use yardwork as my hobby instead of just another chore I have to complete and don't have the time to do. I had to spray roundup in my flower bed again b/c I haven't had the time or freedom to pull the weeds. It's either been too hot or I've had a kid who has wanted to do some activity that prevented me from doing what I need to do, or something more important has cropped up. I need to get my strawberries moved though or I'm not going to get much of a crop next year (teeny tiny berries this year - couldn't even pick them). I plan to dig up my flower bed and replace everything in there with butterfly and bird attracting plants/flowers. I finally got a couple hummingbirds to frequent my hibiscus (white and pink blooms) and my hummingbird feeder. Saw some buzzing around MIL's butterfly bushes, so probably going to see about getting one of them for the bed and some butterfly attracting flowers. Her garden is so zero maintenance and that's what I need. I plan to duplicate her garden in my own space.

Anyhow... I've rambled. Sorry. Happy Monday.

        • Hi Tomi,

Your goals look good. I check in to MDA every week day, and sometimes on weekends too, so I can come say hi What do you think will be the hardest goals for you to stick with? I am curious also (sorry if you have gone over this somewhere before) why your calories are so low. 1200 seems awfully low to me, especially with all that walking.

          • I agree about the 1200 calories. I have a heck of a time meeting a 1500 calorie goal and had to reset my goal to 1700. Surprisingly, adjusting my goal didn't have any negative impact on my weight loss either b/c since I adjusted it, I've started losing again. Might be something to consider?

I'm going to look at this challenge.

Hoping the challenge will get me moving and outside in the afternoons. So..those are my challenges. See my journal here: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/forum/thread65708.html

I would raise the calorie restriction. That is just not enough. Try for for 1500 and see what happens!

Hey A new face on my journal - yeah! Oh gosh........ the hardest goal will probably be the walking........ I did it today and it was hard going an entire HOUR! Normally I will do 20-30 minutes, so bumping it up to an hour will be a good workout! A year ago I couldn't walk a block (I have fibromyalgia and borderline chronic fatigue) So, this last year has been devoted to health and wellness. I'm doing pretty dang good now! But, it was a LONG walk! I do a 20 minute mile - so I'm guessing I walked 3 miles this morning - thats definitely a record for me!

I have my calories set at 1200 because I maintain at 1500 -- blessed with a very sluggish metabolism. I've been tracking my calories for a year now - and if I don't go under 1500 I don't lose at all. My doctor had me step on this thing that spit out a whole bunch of numbers - body fat %age, lean body weight.... blah blah blah........ the thing that caught my attention was that the machine said my basic caloric need is 1520ish. Doc said that means if I sit on the couch all day and do nothing but read a book I will burn 1520 calories............ Her machine is WRONG. I've always had a slow metabolism. Even in high school if I wanted to take off 10 pounds I had to cut calories to around 1000. So, I figure 1200 is most likely my sweet spot since I'm not that 110 pound 18 year old anymore. AND I'm not trying to lose 10 pounds by friday like I would in hs. Doc wants me to take it off at the rate of about 1/2 pound per MONTH! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? How 'bout 2 pounds a week? I like that speed way better!

So - today I walked an hour (roughly 3 miles). Tomorrow I will walk again, and add squats, lunges, girlie push ups, and I will try some stationary sprints.

                    Food today:
                    2 oz cinnamon Almonds
3 oz shrimp sauted in 1 TB butter
                    8 oz Salmon
                    2 TB honey mustard

So far my calories are at 950 with 7% carbs, 57% fats, 36% proteins. I'm not sure where that other 10% is hiding. Maybe the almonds have a lot of fiber? I use CalorieKing maybe its not terribly accurate? Anyway - I figure I have 250 calories to go - and I think I'll spend it on Almond Butter later -- that or 6 slices of bacon! yummers!

                        • So, day 1 went well. I've decided I'm not going to weigh myself until the 21 days are over. I did get a baseline wt. I ended the day and finished off my calories with a couple TBs of almond butter. Its a bit bland, but I'm getting used to it. Peanut butter has a much fuller flavor - but could be because they add sugar, mollases and salt. When I got the jar of almond butter all the oils had separated and were sitting on top so I emptied the jar into a bowl so I could stir it all back together. I added about a 1/4 cup of honey, maybe less, I didn't measure. It bumped up the flavor just enough to make it palitable. So, if honey counts as sugar then I'm not 100% sugar free on my 21 day challenge. But, what can that minute amount of honey do to derail all the other good? I mean, its 1/4 cup added to 2 cups of almond butter --- and I eat 2 TBs a day. Its not enough to even think about.

I'm trying to gear up to start my walk - but there is such a chill in the air this morning! I'm wondering if a light jacket is in order? Yesterday I waited until 11 am to start out and I wore a long sleeved light tee, by the time I was done the sun was high enough to make me have to push my sleeves up above my elbows! I'll have to step out and see how chilly the air truly is this morning.

Hubby is leaving for his annual guy boat trip in the morning. Sad day.......... I love that he takes this trip every year - but I miss him terribly while he's gone. I made a big bowl of mango chutney for them - its SO good! Just chop up cucumber, onion, cilantro, and mango. Add a little salt and pepper. Its yummy! I did put in a splash of lime juice in this batch. Not they really need my contribution....... They eat like KINGS on this yearly trip! I heard them mention things like Lobster, and Sword Fish the other day! They spend nearly as much on food as they do for fuel for the the truck and the boat! But - its their thing and they all love it! They've been doing this for about 8 years now. They always go north, the first year to the Columbia, then every year they've ventured a little further north. Last year they went up to Canada to Princess Louisa island or passage or something. This year they've dialed back the compass to just the Pudget Sound near and around Discovery Bay. I think they've decided its not the destination but the company that is the most important! Gotta love that!

I'm skipping breakfast until after I walk............ better get this body in motion!

                          • 1 hour walk accomplished! I'm pretty proud of myself. Another 3 miles to log for my yearly total.

I came home and cooked 4 strips of bacon. I love bacon! It makes me happy!

Now.......... work. UGH. Yesterday it was so freakin' cold in my "work space" that I had to wrap a blanket around me! Today I'm going to ask if the vents can be closed.

We might be signing papers today to get the refi started. Scary.......... but changing to a 15 year mortgage at 2 3/4% will save us a boatload of money - AND pay off the house just in time to retire! AWE......... I love that word............. RETIRE! 67 years and hopefully our country will still have SS to retire on. Otherwise.......... nope, no retirement for us.

                            better get my tooshie moving.

                            • I share your fears of no SS... I have a bit longer to go before retirement though... try 35 years compared to your 15... I think even after I retire though, I'd have to have a part time job doing something I love - not for the money, but for the joy of doing the work. Currently, I'm dreaming of working the garden center at Menards! lol Or at a nursery (garden nursery) like Wallace Garden Center or something like that.

I'm amazed that you can keep your calories so low. I always feel so unfulfilled when I eat 1200 or fewer calories. Maybe that will change as I lose more weight and change my body composition more.

I never thought to add honey to my almond butter! Good idea!

By the way, fiber is counted under carbs with sugar, so something is wrong with the calculations CK gave you. Unless CK doesn't count fiber as a carb and pulls those numbers out of the carb numbers for a net carb percentage instead of a total carb percentage, in which case that's could be misleading.

Anyhow, have a nice day at work. Stay warm!
