  • Give it a shot Check out the Couch to 5k program. The intervals are really great for getting started. Obviously, you can take it at your own pace, but I found it really helpful to have a guideline. The first week (3 days) is below.

    Brisk five-minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes.

    • Jogging sounds like a fun new challenge to take on. I have been trying to work in weekly sprints.

      • I get winded jumping rope so I'm not sure how I'd do trying to run. I ran back and forth behind my house just to see if these old legs could do it! A year ago I would not have attempted running - so I consider this a triumph! I might just give that couch to 5k a try.

        • Do what you can, the intervals help to build up endurance. I got winded easily when trying to run in the past, but cycling helped a lot and now it doesn't burn. My legs give out before my lungs! Your lungs just need some time to get used to a new volume of air.

            • oh gosh.......... I can't even begin to imagine running a 5k right now............. maybe next year??? Right now - I thinking - can I run a block?

              • With couch to 5k you could be running a 5k in 9 weeks.

                it start you out with running 30 seconds, and building up from there. It's a fantastic program. I highly recommend it.

                      • Holy Crap!!!! I made a comment in Canio's journal about Miley Cyrus' VMA performance and pissed off cori93437 ROYALLY!!! I got a good bitch slapping for my opinion. Apparently its not okay to say a 20 year old with barely any clothes on performing sexually charged body gyrations in front of millions of people made her look "shanky". I'm being accused of using "bullying" language and passing judgment on Miley.

                        Maybe I should look up the exact meaning of the work "skank". According to Urban Dictionary online it means this:

                        Derogatory term for a (usually younger) female, implying trashiness or tackiness, lower-class status, poor hygiene, flakiness, and a scrawny, pockmarked sort of ugliness. May also imply promiscuity, but not necessarily. Can apply to any race, but most commonly used to describe white trash.

                        Yup.......... that pretty much says what I thought about that performance. Sorry, cori93437, that my opinion offends you. I highly doubt Miley will be reading Canio's journal so the chances of her reading my comment and feeling "bullied" are slim to none.
