    • gosh its a toss up between yucky fast food franken-burger and chicken strips. Both are full of unnatural things. I don't even like the taste of fast food "beef" patties anymore.

Had some muscle aches today - must be from the breading on the chicken strips and the rice I ate yesterday. Oh, I just remembered there was also a small bit of macaroni salad with the teriyaki chicken and rice. I won't be making that choice again. I should have just fasted instead.

Doc visit went quick. A few questions and some tests ordered. I'm doing a saliva test to check hormone levels, cortisol, and some other stuff I don't remember. Getting blood work done for Thyroid antibodies (you can have those?), TSH, free T3 and free T4, Vitamin B12, and D, a CBC, Ferritin, Sed Rate, and IGF-1. If all this doesn't show me anything I'm going to a chinese herbalist for help! Course, I don't know any chinese herbalists so that could be difficult.

So they can find hormonal stuff in your spit? Never knew that...... I wonder why they don't use this test at the endocrine office. I should ask the boss.

Its an absolutely beautiful day! The temp is supposed to reach 80 today! YEAH! The tree's are all leafing out now - that means the big Catalpa tree in our front yard will be blooming soon - and it smells wonderful! Sure does make a mess when all those big white buds fall on the grass though. I'll just have to get out there with the lawn mower every couple of days to keep up with it. good exercise. move slowly often!

My thoughts are all over the place today - having a hard time staying focused. I have many "symptoms" that could point to something being out of whack - lack of concentration being one of them. Just gonna sign off for now....... Need to go to work soon anyway.

      • Well, duh, skipping the meal altogether is also an option. LOL! Thanks for reminding me of that, Tomi.

I hope the tests help clear things up for you.

You may find The Fiber Menace helpful, and be sure to follow the link to the Bristol Stool Chart (BSC). Initially on my restart I was a bit constipated and trying to eat more fibre. Then I read this and it hit a chord, so I have now been following this for about 2 months and NO bowel issues. I go (stools) 3-4 times a day, just like he says. No straining, everything is wonderful. Initially I thought it was not going to work but I gave it a week, drank lots of fluids and hey presto! The old guts have righted themselves and all is well, I am happily round the 4/5/6 on the BSC.
Analog - read through both articles. But my problems isn't constipation - its the exact opposite. Seems everything I eat gives me diarrhea. High fiber - no fiber - doesn't seem to matter. The only I know for absolutely sure is that I'm lactose intolerant - and if I have milk (cheese doesn't bother me) without taking a lactaid pill -- I'm in serious trouble! Sometimes "call 911" pain! I won't even take a bite of ice cream without a pill cuz I will pay for it! But, I could go 6 months without any kind of dairy and still be sick nearly everyday with stomach cramps and diarrhea.

But I do really appreciate you taking the time to chime in and share the links. I learned that any kind of poo that is 4, 5 or 6 is totally acceptable!

PS --- you might want to warn people not to be eating a meal when they decide to read the one with the pictures of poo! LOL!

          • May 7 - I've been primal for 7 months now. I honestly don't miss anything grain related - accept maybe the ease of just throwing together a sandwich - or making toast for breakfast.

I didn't eat anything today because my tummy wasn't feeling very good. I managed to go to work - but spent a lot of time in the bathroom. I was very happy there wasn't a lot of work for me to do and I got to leave early. I love having a job with very flexible hours - and and easy going boss.

For dinner I'm having a BAS with chicken tenders fried in coconut oil. Theres iceberg lettuce, carrots, radishes, brocolli, cauliflower, and cucumbers. For lack of a better option I put ranch dressing on top of it - but tried to go easy on the amount. My un-primal very small percentage has always been salad dressings. Judg made some great suggestions and I need to try them - but haven't been to the store to get any ingredients yet. I might try making a ranch-ish type dressing with greek yogurt. Maybe I can find a recipe someplace? I'll google it!

Will do the spit thing on Friday since I'll be home all day. I'm anxious to see what the results will be..........but I think she said it will take a couple weeks to get them. Amazing what you can test for with spit!

            • I have done saliva testing twice. It provided a lot of insight into some issues. Depends on what type of test they are doing too. Hope it gives you some answers. I saw you had your gallbladder out. Are you taking digestive enzymes and bile salts? Most people I know that have had theirs removed did not have doctors that recommended anything. Just an additional thought.

              • Sorry you're not feeling well today, Tomi.

I have to admit, I miss the easiness of making a wrap or a sandwich too. Oh well, I'm not missing the energy swings.

                • There is a ranch dressing recipe out there made with homemade mayo but I haven't tried it yet - who has time to make homemade dressing when you have two ornery kids running around?

I do miss the convenience of tossing together a sandwich too, but boiled eggs are convenient enough for me. I hope you're having a good day!

                    • Good morning. Weight hasn't changed, again. Still hovering at 189. I am seeing some changes in my body shape though - a little less "fluffy" around the bid section! Gotta love that! I'm going to start walking again today. It doesn't burn as many calories as biking - but it seemed to make my legs stronger. I haven't walked in about a month cuz we started biking, then the rains wouldn't stop so I haven't done much of anything for about 3 weeks now. I can feel that my legs are not as toned or strong. Time to start hoofing it again!

@KimT - yup, no gall bladder. I don't take enzymes or salts - and nope, no doctor has ever suggested that I do. Everything I've heard or read said that your liver will adjust to not having a gall bladder for storage and will just pump out bile as needed. I'll have to do some reading on bile salts. I have taken enzymes in the past and found no change in my stomach issues. It was many years ago though, and it wouldn't hurt to try again. I'm up for any suggestions!

@Jenn - I quit eating mayo after going primal cuz it was making me nauseous and bloated. I was only adding it to our home canned tuna cuz the stuff is a bit dry. I've never tried to make the homegrown stuff. I was trying to save enough bacon grease to make baconaisse - but I always use it for frying other meats so I never get enough of it stored up!

I'm really hungry this morning. Its 9:20 and I haven't made breakfast yet. I'm thinking bacon and eggs today. Dinner tonight is Pork Shoulder with steamed veggies. Whats everyone having for dinner?

                        • Doing some reading about Bile Salts - I'm on Gallbladderattack.com - reading about all their products and what they are supposed to do - I was about ready to order the "after gall bladder removal" kit - when it said....... if your having diarrhea associated with dumping syndrome then you don't need bile salts - so, I searched Dumping Syndrome, I haven't had any kind of intestinal surgery and my diarrhea isn't triggered by eating sugery foods - so I think I can rule out that one. Back to square one.

Okay just came across a thread that looks like it might address my problem. The fix - Calcium Carbonate w/o Magnesium. I'm getting some on my way to work today! Maybe this will stop the diarrhea!

                              • Tomi, I've worked with a doc that feels that everyone, regardless of health, should be on digestive enzymes by their mid-30's. They, along with a good quality probiotic (comes refrigerated and stays in the fridge) helped my fibro related IBS tremendously. I hope you are able to get some answers soon. I know I've read about the enzymes and bile salts as well as talked with a few docs about it. If I come across anything I'll be sure to forward it to you.

Tonight for dinner we had grass feed roast, done in the nuwave with a rub and coconut oil, cauliflower, and sweet potato.
