  • Waking From My Carb Coma~~My Primal Journal

    Where to begin. I don't want to go back to far and bore to to tears so let's just say that in 2001 i weighed at my heaviest 220 and that is a lot of me at 5'2. At my smallest in 2009 i was at 119. I made Lifetime at Weight Watchers. For the past year i have not been able to get back down under 130. I am at 140 now. It seems as if since my 46th birthday on Jan.1st i now have this tummy i can not get rid of and my hips are well hipper than in the past.

    I am a runner but to look at me you would not know it. I have run two half-marathons and a ton of 5-10k's. The past year i have ran in one race because i was so depressed about the way i looked. It has got to the point i don't even want to go out. I run at 5am so nobody will see my big butt bouncing...lol

    I also lift weights 3x a week. I use to be more into it but i have a shoulder injury so now i use lighter weights and do more bodyweight work.

    I have been eating low carb for about a week now. It was hard at first. I loved my oats in the morning but now i have a protein shake and mid-morning i have my egg white,apple cup i make in the microwave and my protein/flaxseed muffin.

    I want to get back to the old me. Running races and going out..living again. I have picked out two races in May. I am going to sign up to give me a gaol to work too. They are 5k's so i should be ok.

    Well i think that is enough for now. I need to start reading Mark's book...

    Welcome. I hope primal goes well for you. Reading the book is the key. There is lots of good info here in the forums and also some crazy stuff.

    I hope you are not avoiding egg yolks. They are great for you.

      Good Morning,
      Yes i am loving the book so far and i adore egg yolks.
      I am bummed this morning. yesterday was my rest day and stupid me i weighed myself and i am up to 141.

      I am feeling better since i dropped the dairy and starchy carbs from my diet but the weight thing is driving me insane.
      I am such a sugar addict. That will be the hardest thing for me to give up. I did yesterday start drinking plain water. I was putting those flavor packs in. I also read that spices not sauces were the way to go. So the honey mustard.light mayo is now gone.

      I am also cutting my running back to 3 easy miles. I saw in the book the weight lifting and i love that. The only problem is i don't have anywhere i can do pull ups..

      The other thing i can't get use to no calorie counting..

        Time-36 minutes
        Pace-11:52


        Meal 1
        Protein shake 27g protein,70g blueberries

        M2
        Flaxseed/Protein Muffin(13g protein,13g flaxseed,one whole egg mixed,micro 90 seconds)
        Egg white/apple cup( 4 egg whites,80g apple cut up mixed in cup micro 2 mins

        M3
        Big salad
        Romaine,tuna,broccoli,banana peppers,egg,1tsp olive oil,vinegar,pepper

        Not to sure about the rest of the day....

            So today i have done a lot of reading in the forums. I have decided to try SPEED. I think the psychology part of the program will do me the most good.

            Calories today..well i did not track since i did put off eating until 11:30am. Funny i wasn't even hungry until then..it's it strange how we get into a patteren of just eating because it is a certain time of day. Tomorrow i will plan out my meals and stick to a plan

              Today is Day 1 of 30 of SPEED. I read over the book last night and i have to say i an impressed. It really goes hand in hand with this program. I know change does not happen overnight but i really hope to make some improvements.

              Starting Measurements

              Hieght-5'2
              Weight-140.4
              Waist~at bellybutton~33'
              Hips~widest point~38'
              Upper Arm~10'
              Upper Thigh~23.5

              This is the most i have weighed since i was 220 back in 2001.

              The main thing i loved about the book was the psychological section. It really hepled me understand why i am eating like this and keeping myself from my goals.
              I loved the Compelling Vision and Future Self. I know this is something i can complete.

                        You can get there so long as you realize carbs like oats are part of the problem and also frequent snacking. I've had an interesting experience this last winter eating no carbs at all for days- really opens your eyes.

                          I know..it is amazing how bnloating oats and carbs can be. I feel better now that i am having protein for breakfast.

                            Day 2 of Speed.

                            I am happy to report that since dropping my hot chocolate and hard candy that i adore i am down two pounds to 138.4
                            After reading SPEED i am rethinking my workout too. I might do more treadmill walk/run intervals now or maybe my spinning bike. I did enjoy my workouts. So i am off to Earth Fare later this morning to find the yummy teas that demuralist(Chris) told me about yesterday.

                              Seems like it is a good start here. If you enjoy your workouts maybe you can just cut back on how often you do them.

                              If you don't find the teas in town you can get them online...OMG I just went to their website and there are other chocolates I have not seen, Search Results
