    • Oops, haven't updated in a few days! I've been kind of busy and a little under the weather. So, here's a little something for me to remember, when someone says they think they aren't sick anymore, I should stay away for another day or so. Stupid sore throat! The turmeric tea helped, but not without drinking about 8 servings over the past few days. I didn't always use coconut milk either, but it did the trick with regular milk.

I went on a sort of carb and sugar trip over the past few days, but the hard part is remembering what all I had to eat. I'll give it a shot for Tues, Wed, and today.

      Tues
B: 1 slice each regular and beef bacon. I think I sauteed up some green and red bell pepper slices to go with that
S: Mix blueberries and strawberries, 1 oz macadamia nuts
L: I cannot remember what I had for lunch!
D: Pork keilbasa and sauteed veggies. Now, we had snacks at my Tues group, where I enjoyed some grapes and spinach dip, but I also had some pizza bread rolls, like about 4 and a purple jelly bean when I got home. Like I wanted to eat all five of them, but I threw them out.
      Drinks: Mostly water

      Wed
B:1 slice each regular and beef bacon. Now I do remember that I sauteed green and red bell pepper slices
S: Mix of strawberries and blueberries, 1 oz macadamia nuts
L: Leftover sausage and salad with homemade dressing
      S: slice of ham
D: So, we had a guest speaker couple come to our Wed night class to talk to us about equally yoked relationships. Because it was our last night, we did potluck. I brought the ham from the store so I would at least have something to eat. At first, I did really good with that, then I caved! Plus, my choice in drink wasn't optimal. Nestea Sweet Iced tea in the bottle? Carb overlead after the 2nd drink. I think I had about 4. I thought I'd be okay with one sopapilla, but no, I had like three. Then I decided to enjoy those little snack size dark chocolate milky ways. Thankfully I didn't get a sugar high, but I think I came pretty close. Maybe having one would have reminded me why I stay away!

Drinks: 4 servings turmeric tea, 4 servings Nestea Iced Tea, and water

      Today
B: 3 slices of regular and 1 slice beef bacon
S: Mix of raspberries and blueberries, 1 oz macadamia nuts
L: OHHHHHHHHHH! Blue corn chips from Jason's Deli and some guacamole. Leftover sliced ham, salad, and homemade dressing.
S: last few pieces of sliced ham
D: Greek salad with grilled chicken and bacon, house tomato vinegrette, and sweet potato fries.

Drinks: 4 servings turmeric tea, water, and about 3 servings unsweetened iced tea.

      • I was reading Paleo magazine this morning and an article caught my attention. It asked the question, is it Primal? Basically, the article talked about how quite a few of us use Primal as a way to push our athleticism. However, is that really Primal? In the end, what I got was motivation to want to be outdoors more. As I was thinking about typing this, I thought about someone in my life who doesn't really eat Primal, but loves being outdoors and learning more about his environment. That guy would be my dad. Now, we have an odd relationship, but I realized how much more his life is Primal when compared to mine. He's like an encyclopedia when it comes to his natural surroundings, which is probably why he lives where he does in Williamsburg, VA. Whenever I do actually get a hold of him on the phone, he's always telling me about the hike that he was either on or is on while talking to me.

When I thought about it at work, I realized that I do love being outside. However, I haven't done that much outside lately. Gabi and I haven't had our after work/school walk around the block. We haven't hiked as much or played whatever outside as much. I think I'm feeling that drain a little bit. I know some of that is from letting myself get sidetracked by someone else. Of course, the sore throat thing from the last few days hasn't helped much either. I will say this, I love it when we have the hangar doors open or are out on the flight line for a while. Sort of not so much when it's cold and windy out here (I'm not talking 10mph winds either), but we've got work to do! Those birds aren't going to fix themselves

So, I think I need to take a step back and refocus on my outdoor time. I know it's taking a small toll on my daughter and I's relationship. I value this relationship quite a bit, so I don't want there to be a huge amount of distance due to not spending time together when we have to do stuff. My hope is that my future posts will show more activity outdoors and some pictures because it's about to get colorful at Wildcat Bluff! Hopefully some shots from Palo Duro Canyon (PDC) will pop up soon as well. I bought this cool little book that's a guide on trees. B&N had a sale, so I think I got it for about 60% off. Plus, I have some books on herbs and remedies, so I'm going to get pictures and maybe post them along with what they are good for. Hopefully I'll get some more wildlife pictures too!

Well, that's it for the night. I hope all of you have a blessed evening and enjoy some good sleep!

        • Alessandra...do you have a subscription to the Paleo magazine? I'm thinking about getting one but would like to know how you are enjoying it & if its worth the money. Its kinda high.

The time you spend with your daughter now will return to you tenfold in the future! Nothing or no one is more important than she is. But of course you already know that. Sounds like you have an awesome relationship. That's priceless!!!

Hope you get to feeling better real soon!! Sleep well.

          • PC, I don't have a subscription, yet. Natural Grocers just happened to be selling it so I picked up a copy. I just about live at that store at times. Really, I thank God that my daughter is who she is. We went through a little scare the other night due to the upcoming STAAR testing that she has with math and reading. Really smart kid, but she's actually worried she won't pass this time around. She had some relief when she found out that this year's testing won't count against her going to 7th grade and they also won't find out what their grades are until Oct. I think that took some stress out of the equation for her, which is good. I'm pretty certain this is also why she's been having a hard time trying to sleep, but she didn't want to tell me. I told her that no matter what happens, I still love her and I'm still here. I was a little concerned that she was so stressed because she usually breezes right through this stuff.

I'm feeling a little better, sore throat wise, this morning. I think my belly is a little mad at me for so much milk over the past few days, so I'm going to have to lay off completely. I'm up about an hour before I need to be.

            • In our area the schools have been 'talking up' the STAAR test, saying how it is tougher. It is not. It is only (a little) different. The older grades already had their first round, and you can reassure your daughter that if she did well on TAKS, she'll have no problem with STAAR.

I want to be outside more also. Here in the suburbs, sometimes outside feels as corralled as inside, but there is still something satisfying about breathing green, fresh, moving air, and having plants around. This weekend I have to be walking around the city for a project on Saturday. Maybe I can head to the nature preserve on Sunday to balance it.

              • I've found that on weekends, if I can make extra time, I'll plan on walking to a destination. Saves on gas and helps you get out because there is a goal besides walking a giant path in a circle and coming home.

                • Ecks, I ended up not walking to my destinations today. I could blame it on the wind, but it was probably just laziness on my behalf. We did get a hike in over at Wildcat Bluff today. I completely missed Earthfest this morning, but I had a good cause! I did some bra shopping. While it turns out that Warner's isn't completely concerned that I stay loyal to them, I did find out that I went down from 38 to 36. The JCPenney lady measured me, but she went too small at first, lol! I was sort of excited when she said 34, but in my mind I knew that was wrong. I went along with it anyway, but no deal. I did find some new ones for work that seem to do the job I need them to do. There's just nothing worse than being twisted up all over the place and having that bad boy move on you.

I decided to fast for as long as I could today because we took mom out for her dinner last night. She actually asked to go to a steakhouse because she's just starting to go Primal too! So, maybe I might have noshed on some fried pickles.... Mental note to self, I must remember to grab a small snack before going out to dinner so I won't be tempted with appetizers. We were late to dinner last night, which made me made because I really wanted to be on time last night for Mom's birthday dinner. Stinking guys at work taking their sweet arse time cleaning up! Anyway, Mom had a good time. They had a balloon guy there, so I asked him to come over and hook up Mom and Gabi. Who doesn't like a balloon on their birthday, right? A freaking grinch, that's who. Plus, Mom does clown from time to time and she does the balloon thing too.

                  Yesterday
B: 4 pcs bacon, some brisket, and sauteed veggies
S: Mixed berries and 1 oz macadamia nuts
L: Salad with chicken, bacon, and homemade dressing
S: Oh, the whole freaking bar of Lindt 85%! Oops
D: Some of mom's fried pickles. Split a half rack of ribs with Gabi, half a ceasar salad sans breadcrumbs, and some steamed veggies. Unsweetened Iced Tea

Drinks were mostly water with the tea at dinner

                  Today:
Fasted until 12. So, roughly an 18 hour fast. Working my way up to 20 hours
Lunch: Jason's deli Artisan club without bread. Oh my goodness, that freaking goat cheese was AWESOME! Fruit side
Snack: The rest of the Eades Meats jerky and 4 pcs Lindt 85%
D: 2 Chicken Spinach Feta Sausages

Drinks: A few sips of Pepsi (NOT doing that again, man that crap is sweet!), water, and some black currant tea sweetened with honey.

I managed to get in one 10 Min Trainer Video yesterday, Total Body. Today, I busted out with some primal stuff. Back slide cralw thing, spiderman, plank, push ups, bunny hop, hop squats, lunges, squats (you have no idea how much I love squats. I'm sure that's actually not healthy), and a few sprint runs.

Oh yeah, I took Mom and Gabi to go see Mirror, Mirror. They loved it! I had no popcorn last night! Success!

Ah the problem with weightless... less boob! #dudeMoment (sorry!)

Sounds like you've been doing well! And it's great that your mom wants to hop on paleo with you! Enjoy the fried pickles- regardless of what they are breaded in or fried in. You've gotta remember that paleo is a lifestyle not a diet. It would not be feasible to go the rest of your life not enjoying some of the less than ideal foods. It's not a cheat, and you're not hurting yourself, it's simply filling the primal need. Bet they tasted awesome and I bet it was worth it!

@sabine I love how you are feeding into my terrible terrible joke... Yay for less back fat! (or as it's sometimes called, back boob!) front boob is the way to go!

Around here, it's beaver tails, essentially a flattened-out doughnut or a deep-fried pancake. Also known as elephant ears in some places. I had one once as a kid and enjoyed it, but have never had one since. Being super cheap and too tired to go to festivals both have their advantages... LOL.
