  • Okay, where did you find the cocoa beans for the choffy. I have been meaning to try that?

    That is a cool idea for the Advent wreath. I shall have to ponder how I can use it.

    • Judg, I found some ground cacao beans at Natural Grocers. They don't sell the Choffy brand, but I think this works just as well. You can also order the beans on line and grind them up. I have a coffee grinder that I use primarly for herbs when making mixes, but I'm not against using it for it's original intent. I might just order some beans this weekend.

      Man someone brought baklava to our group last night! Okay, yes, I ate like two of them. My friend Jhones, who is from Brazil, has never had them before and he's the one that bought them. I told him those things were like crack to me. Of course he is now hooked on them. Poor guy. Before I forget! He had some of that matte like tea at last weeks meeting. I did try some, but the water was still hot so I couldn't drink very much. I loved the mug and metal straw that he was using to drink it with.

      B: 3 pcs bacon
      L: leftover 2 drumsticks from the lemon and artichoke chicken and the last of mom's cranberry sauce.
      D: Jason's Deli The Papa Joe with no bread and some steamed veggies
      S: Some dark choclate truffles, 2 baklava's, some dip that's green but not guacomole, and some cheese ball.
      Drinks: Water, choffy with coconut milk, cinnamon, and ginger slices, some sweetened tea that I sweetened with honey, and some unsweet tea.
      No exercise yesterday. I was up early getting bills taken care of. I did learn that I may have some money coming my way after I managed to mess something up. Usually that works the other way around!

      Who still makes potpourri? I through about 6 small cinnamon sticks, some ground nutmeg, and a few slices of ginger root in a small saucepan yesterday and then boiled it. Once I turned it down to low heat I let it simmer. Oh man, I forogt how good that smells! My dad used to do this when we were kids. Whenever I would go over to his apartment I would always see a saucepan on the stove with the stuff. It smells like Christmas in my apartment but it doesn't smell too sweet. Also, I've added some ginger rood slices to the cinnamon bark tea. YUM!

      • I haven't made baklava in years... Mmmm... Soo good but soo sweet (and that was by my previous standards of sweet!)

        • Don't remind me about baklava. I can just cross the street to get it... Fortunately my cheapness saves me from all kinds of bad things.

          I've got one of those metal straws. It was given to me by someone who had been to Brazil. I've never known what I was supposed to do with it... Hmm. I have some lemongrass mate tea. Maybe I should try it. Not tonight. I don't need the buzz.

          Do you do anything with the potpourri ingredients afterwards?

          • Oh my goodness! The last two days have been nuts! There was lots of food involved last night and it wasn't all good food, primal wise. I just know there is something I won't be doing again. Woodchuck hard cider and sugary breaded desserts are not a good mix. I'm fasting for as long as I can today because of that. Like I get the hunger pangs but they go away after a bit.

            Friday Dec 6th
            B: 4 pcs oven baked bacon, mixed nuts with some dried crans and raisins
            S: Kind M.V.A.
            L: Leftover fiery burger and fries
            D: Had dinner with Gabi and a friend out at Thai Taste. Ok, I like Panang, but I need a recipe for home that doesn't involve sweetened coconut milk. I had that and some egg drop soup. Oh, I ate the innards of some egg and spring rolls. This would have been fine but then we met up with another friend at BWW. I had some Hard Cider but then ate the ice cream that Gabi didn't finish. My friend Jhones has decided he likes ice crean on his boneless wings since Gabi dropped some on his wings.
            Exercise: 1 each of 16 push ups, 50 air squats, 1:28 planks, 30 calf raises, 20 each side lunges, 10 assisted pull ups, and 8 assisted chin ups.

            Saturday Dec 7th
            B: 5 pcs bacon
            L: Jason's Deli The Papa Joe with no bread and steamed veggies and a few pieces of pineapple.
            D: Where do I start here? Okay, like 4 of those little appetizer bread roll sandwich things, REINDEER sausage (freaking AWESOME!), brisket, steak, some cassava root mixture for dipping the steak in (Jhones speciality since he's from Brazil), some of my roasted mixed veggies (carrots, red potatoes, leeks, garlic, fresh cranberries, oranges, and some sea salt), some smoked salmon on a cracker that Gabi couldn't finish, smashed potatoes, some blue corn chips with someone's homemade hummus, some regular size quiche.
            D: I should have stopped at dinner, but I didn't. Someone made homemade whipped cream, I had some of that along with some cherry cream cheese pie stuff using phyllo dough crust and apple compote. If I would have had a little of each of these I might have been okay this morning, but I didn't. I let loose on the sugar craving last night. I'm still tasting my food this morning while at work. My stomach has turned on me and I don't blame it. I deserve this.

            On the bright side, I had a blast last night! Apples to Apples is a fun game to play and so is Catchphrase I don't remember what I ate on Thursday or I would post for that day too.

            I'm going to try to just take it easy today. Yesterday was so busy. We spent most of our day getting a new TV and that turned into a little adventure that involved too many trips to Wal-Mart for this girl to handle.

            • Talk about a stressful day yesterday at work! It all came together right before I left for the day though. I didn't eat much on Sunday until we went to Mom's house for dinner. I don't have much time to post right now, so I'll just go with Sunday first.

              Sunday:
              Snacks- Pumpkin seeds and pistachios
              Dinner- Pot Roast, harvard beets, some roasted celery and carrots, and mom's gluten free blondie bar.
              No exercise because I was up early for work. I did make some more of that choffy type stuff.

              Mom's doing really good about making flour mixtures to bake with. She's trying hard right now. Poor woman has been getting steroid shots and so it's slowing her weight loss down. The good news is that she's not gaining any weight. She's going to have to go in for knee surgery soon though.

              Okay, I'll post Monday's stuff during my lunch break.

              • For a wonder, I have all those stove-top potpourri ingredients, so I am giving it a try. I've never done it before, but the lure of holiday smells is getting me.

                  Monday
                  B: 1/6th of Swirly crustless quiche and 3 pcs oven baked bacon
                  S: Almonds
                  L: Leftover from Mom's dinner
                  S: Tried some new chocolate in the bite size from Natural Grocers. Note to self: DO NOT EAT ANYTHING LABELED SYNERGY SPICE! Wow, that stuff burned my tongue to the point of not being able to taste the chocolate. Good thing I had a Chocolate Secret Bar ready.
                  D: Grilled Skirt Steak with onions and bell peppers along with some leftovers from the roasted veggies that I cooked up the other night.
                  Drinks: Choffee and water.
                  Exercise: None, up earlier for work this week.

                  I had a really crazy stressful day at work yesterday. All I wanted when I got home was some wine. I didn't end up having any though. I reminded myself, before picking her up, that I have a cool kid to pick up and a fun dog to see when we get home. Gabi and I had fun with Roxy yesterday using the new TV. It was fun watching her react to the barking boxers on the TV. But her short attention span kicked in and she remembered she had a toy to play with. Then Gabi decided to wrestle with her. That made my day when I was watching the two of them play. Thank goodness for those two

                  • How's your day at work today? Any better? It's nice to hear that you've got your daughter and pup to keep your stress levels at bay. Sounds like the right combination of awesome!

                    • HI Ecks! Today has been a good day so far as well as yesterday. I'm hosting small group at my place tonight and providing some of the food. I made the Lemony Lamb Dolmas from Practical Paleo because that's what my calender shows for tonight. Luckily for me, it makes enough to feed people in my group. I'm thinking about putting out stuff for making a salad if people want that as well. Since I'm not the only one providing food I'm going to try to get in some stuff that I know is better for me.

                      My freaking dishwasher backed up on me last night! The last time the repair guy fixed it he basically showed me how to do it without maybe realizing it. I handled it this morning. I didn't want to have to wait another two weeks to get it fixed.

                      Yesterday:
                      B: Swirly crustless quiche and bacon
                      L: Canned wild salmon, cherry tomatoes, sliced olives, EVOO, and lemon juice
                      S: Hot chocolate then later I had a Kind Dark Chocolate and Pecan bar
                      D: Roasted Turkey legs and sweet potato pancakes. I had like two of the Dolmas later on to taste test them.
                      Drinks: Cinnamon bark tea and water.

                          • Judg, I think you'd be close to right about that

                            Yay! Having small group at my house was great last night! I did cave to a few sugar cookies, but that was it yesterday. When I got up this morning I decided I would make bullet proof coffe for the first time EVER! I would like to state I am also not a daily coffee drinker. I won't say that I was completely happy and all like I LOVE this stuff, but it did what I needed it to do. I really didn't want to get out of bed, again, and go in an hour earlier today. I actually ended up making myself about two servings worth. The first time was the straight up bulletproof coffe. The second time I added some vanilla and a scant amount of maple syrup. I also decided to fast a little today because of the cookies and the fact that I had two not homemade hot chocolates yesterday, along with some plantain chips (again not homemade), and some gluten free chips. I managed about 14.5 hours before going and eating some pork rinds.

                            Yesterday:
                            B: 4 pcs bacon
                            S: Swirly crustless quiche, hot chocolate
                            L: Leftover turkey leg and sweet potato pancakes
                            S: Hot chocolate
                            S three hours later: Chocolate secret bar
                            D: I think like 5 lemony lamb dolmas (some people liked them, but not everyone) 3 cookies, blackberries, raw carrots, plantain chips, and some regular gluten free chips with some GREEN MOUNTAIN GRINGO SALSA (have I mentioned how much I enjoy that stuff?)
                            Drinks: Unsweet iced tea, hot chocolate, and water.
                            No exercise again.

                            • I'd like to add that even though I haven't been working out this week, I've maintained my weight. Of course I'd like to lose, but I'm not doing everything that I can to make that happen right now. In the meantime I'll do what I can to maintain.

                              • Maintaining is good. You can't have a successful weight loss plan without it. People tend to feel defeated when they plateau, when they shouldn't. If you can relax, and not put the weight back on, that is a major, major victory. That means any future weight lost will stay off, which is the whole point really.
