  • Thanks Sabine! Hopefully I'll be able to remember to fill this out more often. I'm trying to keep a paper journal so that I can keep track during the day.

    • Oh, I think I just need to start all over again. Sigh, I haven't been on here consistently over the past several months. Am I mad at myself a little bit? Yes, I am. In the mean time, I've put on most of the weight that I had lost. I didn't platteu because I was just doing the same thing, I went back up because I got off track. When I chatted with Gabi about it yesterday she told me I could use this as my new years resolution. I told her I couldn't wait till then. I mean, who knows if I have till then, right? I know I got complacent in my attempts. Then I started to make excuses about sugar. I would just have one little bar of chocolate, then another. Then I thought, "It's dark chocolate, I'll be okay." Then I used the typical woman's excuse when that time of the month came around. Then I started to allow other things. It started to go bad quick after that.

This past weekend I let myself have pizza and cake. Gabi had her 13th birthday party on Friday so I ordered pizza for the kids. Plus, she had a cake that was decorated to look like an iPhone. Really good design. Then she wanted my boyfriend to come to her party since it was his actual birthday when we were celebrating hers (she actually turned 13 yesterday). So, I ordered a few cupcakes for him and then put candles in them. In the meantime we had a whole buch of junk food at the house because it was a movie themed party. However, when she went to her friends house the next night, I made her take all the junk food with her, minus the cake and his cupcakes. Then I got to meet his family on Sunday evening and we had pizza again. I didn't want to be rude, so I ate the pizza whole. The funny thing was that his grandmother scraped all the stuff off of her pizza and only ate the top stuff with no bread. I sort of mentally head slapped myself after that, lol.

This past weekend was the breaking point for me for the most part. I got on the scale yesterday morning and was aggravated with myself for letting this happen. I worked so hard and then just let it all slide. So, I need a do over now. It's not the bread and the grains that usually get me, it's the sugar. Today, I've decided to take it one day at a time. We're having a Thanksgiving lunch thing here at work. I chose to make some stuff that would be a little safer for me to eat. It's not 100% the safest, but it's better than what I knew was going to brought in.

That's it for now on the blog side of this.

          • I'm sitting here this morning debating on whether to walk to the store or drive. Why am I debating this? It's freaking no brainer, I'm walking.

Yesterday was almost a good day, but I do think it could have gone much worse so I'm okay with it. I got up early to get the rosemary carrots and onion dish along with the sausage stuffed bacon wrapped dates. My darn oven almost made it a no go, but I managed to get that bad boy to work for me. The dates were a success at work. Most of the guys ate them and enjoyed them. So now I know I can make those again! Too bad the boyfriend didn't get to enjoy his handy work I should mention he made a mess in my kitchen helping me with the carrots too, lol. I'm just thankful he came over and helped out.

The Thanksgiving lunch was good stuff. I almost made it out of there free of sugar, but I thought I'd try some of the sweet potato thing that someone made. I think I might need to be more alert when I hear people describe what's in their dishes. I heard walnuts and went for it. Only there was more than walnuts. Oh well, lesson learned. I did have some sopapilla cheesecake which was a big mistake because I ended up with a headache by the time I went home and I had to fight off a food coma after lunch. When Gabi, the boyfriend, and myself went out to dinner later I ordered a salad. I didn't feel like cooking last night after eating all that food, but my body wanted something.

The good thing that I was thinking about is the fact that the boyfriend likes my cooking and considers it healthy. He's trying to drop some weight too.

We went to the book store last night and I bought the newest Stephanie Plum novel! We did venture into the coffee shop, so I bought a peppermint mocha latte. Strike three, but it's ok. Today is a new day. Somehow I managed to drop about 2 pounds since yesterday. I'm not questioning it, but I won't be eating sloppy today either. I did buy the Practical Paleo book and LOVE IT! The fact that I have leftovers for breakfast in the morning is quite nice

            11/20/12
B: 1 sausage stuffed bacon wrapped date and three of mom's chocolate truffles.
L: 3 s.s.b.w.d's, some fried turkey, the carrots and onions, the sweet potato thing and the sopapilla deal.
S: 2 more s.s.b.w.d's (this was a little on the mindless side, not sure why I decided to eat them)
            D: Salad
Drinks: Mostly water, but also the tall of peppermint mocha latte
Exercise: 15 pushups, 50 air squats, 60 seconds of plank, 30 calf raises, 8 assisted pull ups.

              • Welcome back, Alessandra. We falls down, we gets up, we starts over. Boyfriend? That sounds new to me. There's been more going on than battles with sugar, apparently.

                • Yes, boyfriend is new!

Yesterday was a much better day and I'm so thankful for that. I'm also thankful for having a day off! I'm really enjoying the Practical Paleo book. The recipes are usually easy to follow and the food usually tastes good.

B: Leftover zucchini pancakes with some real maple syrup
S: Kind Fruit and Nut bar
L: Mom's leftover brisket covered with Green Mountain Gringo Salsa (if you haven't tried this stuff, I highly recommend it)
D: Lamb chops with olive tapenede and steamed broccoli with butter.
S: A few handfuls of macadamia nuts throughout the day
Exercise: Walked up to the store and back. About 1.5 miles maybe.
Drinks: A sip of Gabi's coffee. I bought her a French Press for her birthday so she opted to use it for the first time yesterday. Water.

                  • Oh yeah, this year I'm doing the turkey! My oven likes to give me problems heating up. In order to get around this I turn on the broiler setting and then set the temp that I would normally have it on the bake setting. This usually works good, but this time I forgot to take it off the broiler setting I realized this when I was putting the foil tent around the turkey. I think I might be okay this time around. The turkey cooked to temp. It's resting right now.

After dinner here at my place, Mom, Gabi, and I are going to my boyfriends parents house for dessert. We've been sort of chilling out watching football most of the afternoon. I did learn that you can actually fit Gabi, Roxy, myself, and boyfriend all on the couch!

I'm thankful for so much today that I can't list all of it. Mostly, I'm thankful for God and my family! Happy Thanksgiving you guys

                    • Time to play catch up for the last few days.

                      Thanksgiving Day:
B: I didn't have an actual breakfast, just a snack. Kind Fruit and Nut Bar
L: A few handfuls of macadamia nuts
D: Turkey breast, some pickins off the roasting pan which were onions, oranges, cranberries, & garlic. Some of mom's homemade cranberry sauce, and some of her wild rice stuffing that had blue corn in it.
Dessert: Oh yeah, I went for it because I don't plan on doing this again for a while. Gabi made some oreo pie thing, so I think I had like two slices of that and go ahead and add like 7 oreo cookies in there cause I almost forgot I had those earlier in the day. Some of Kent's mom's peach pie (at least I think it was a pie) and a few hershey almond kisses.
                      Drinks: Water
Exercise: 45 air squats and 60 calf raises.

                      Black Friday:
                      B: Two homemade sausage patties
S: Kind Fruit and Nut Bar along with some pickings off of Gabi's Spinach and Artichoke quiche.
                      L: Leftover Paleo Bolognese
D: 2 1/2 burgers with romaine lettuce and dressing
Drinks: Water and Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea
Exercise: Black Friday Shopping. We went later on in the morning to avoid the crazy people. I was still getting over a cold and I knew my temper would be short if I had to run into any nastiness while out shopping. We managed to get some seriously good deals, but not of those were for anybody else but us!

Spent the evening getting started on making homemade ornaments with Gabi and Kent. The kid was sort of slacking off last night, so the other two of us did more work. She's up to bat today with this stuff though. She just doesn't know it yet, lol. Okay, time to get a little something to eat and then head off to Crossfit.

                      • Sunday=procrastination day. Especially after a 5 day weekend. I spent the day with one of my girlfriends and I think it was the best thing I've done in a while. She gave me some perspective that I needed before I do anything stupid. I can only hope I was able to provide the same.

                        Sat:
B: Swirly zucchini squash and 3 pcs of bacon.
S: Kind Fruit and Nut bar
I didn't really have lunch since I knew I was going to have dinner with the boyfriend before we went to the Turkey Bash Demolition Derby. So, I sort of finished off the macadamia nuts I had in the fridge
D: Cozumel Island Salad with Citrus Vinegrette from Joe Taco. I did sneak in about 5 corn chips.
Drinks: Water, unsweetened iced tea, and some Starbucks hot cinnamon tea
Exercise: Crossfit Death by Pull ups and Thrusters. I took Roxy out for about a 2 mile walk down Old Soncy Trail. She was pretty worn out by the time we got home, poor pooch.

                        Today:
B: Leftover Swirly Zucchini Quiche and some homemade sausage
L: Salad bar and a side of smoked Turkey from Jason's Deli
S: Kind Fruit and Nut bar
D: Mom's Parm chicken, smashed taters, and some broccoli. I did have some of her homemade gluten free chocolate chocolate chip cookies. Like about 8 of them. They are super thin, but super freaking good. Plus I ate some of those Nut Thin things. I think about 5 of them.
Drinks: Sweetened Tea, then unsweetened tea, and water.
No exercise. I overslept today because I forgot to set my alarm so I was late getting to church.

                        • LOL @ Alessandra. You have every right to be tight-lipped about your personal life. But I reserve the right to chuckle at it. But if your Mom is making the trek to BF's parents' house... I know how Italians think.

Sounds like you did relatively well for a celebration weekend. Those times are always tricky, aren't they?

                          • Ah well, it ended anyway. At least as far as my relationship. I'm actually completely okay with it as it's not really an ideal time for me right now. I can only hope he'll be okay. It was fun while it lasted though.

                            Yesterday:
B: 2 sqaures of the quiche and the last patty of breakfast sausage
S: Kind Almond and Coconut bar
L: Leftover from dinner at mom's
S: Woah, not sure what happened here, but I was pretty darn hungry when I got home yesterday. I ate like another 7 of those cookies mom made. Plus some liverwurst, a taste bite of Gabi's chicken salad, about 4 grape cherry tomatoes, and some small brie cheese thing.
D: Paleo taco salad meat and some lettuch with Green Mountain Gringo mild salsa and some of my homemade dressing. Just a heads up, when you combine the salsa and my dressing, it's a slight bit tart!
Drinks: Water and some unsweetened iced tea
Exercise: 15 & 15 push ups, 50 & 50 air squats, 1:40 & 1:20 time for planks, 30 & 30 calf raises, 8 assisted & 8 assisted pull ups, and 4 assisted & 4 assisted chin ups, plus walking the dog for about 1/2 m on the morning walk. We were going to play volleyball outside yesterday, but it was cold and windy at the same time.

Someone please tell me what's wrong with this article? So, she's farming and ranching, but complaining about not having a job. She's worried about places such as Hostess closing down? There's so much wrong with this article, but the food thing really irks the crap out of me.

                              • I'll stay away from the politics part of it, but if her husband has his own business, and they ranch and farm, sounds like they are not without 'a job', just without 'two' jobs.

The thing that struck me is that she said running 20 cattle and growing vegetables supplies them with 60% (hope I'm getting this right) of their food. If they were primal, that would be 100%! Plus, she'd probably drop that extra weight she is carrying in the photo. (Not trying to be mean- I KNOW stress can pack on the pounds- but how many of us, when faced with a smaller income, would LOVE to be able to say, 'well, we've got 20 cows and vegetables, so we'll be okay'?)

I think she is trapped in CW about her whole situation. She needs that second paycheck so that she can spend to BUY food, not grow it, and keep places like Hostess in business, perhaps.
