  • It is an addiction, isn't it? I've been surprised to find that sugar is harder to give up than bread and pasta.

    • It is an addiction. I need S.A. Sugarholics Anonymous. I could never have imagined as a kid that it would be this bad. I knew for the longest time that sugar was the cause of my crashes in the middle of the work day. What I didn't know is that the pasta and breads were aiding in this problem. I don't even mind ordering dishes and asking for no bread or pasta. This has been much harder than the smoking and I'm actually surprised by it. I just want to get to a point where it's not a craving and I can eat more foods that are close to their natural taste without needing a sweetener of some sort. I don't have to worry about that with meats, except the bacon that I buy. That has such a small amount, I can't even taste it. But I think once I beat this, I probably will be able to taste it. I want to get to a point where the smell of brownies doesn't do anything for me, like it used to be. I'm really tired of being a "slave" to this stuff. The past few days, I've been doing okay.

      • You will get there. Some victories come gradually, but they come if we keep getting back on our feet.

        • I'm betting the bacon doesn't help. I'd almost suggest going and finding sugar free bacon. If I'm not mistaken most real butchers will have that option. Mine does sugar and salt free though the pack doesn't last long.

          • I haven't been able to find a butcher around here for that ecks

What a day today! Talk about God talking right to me this morning at church. Phew! That got me pumped and gave me the smack across the face I needed for another area of my life. So, it was great to hang out with my Sunday morning group and have lunch. I ordered a burger (the Gabby Burger) that comes with guacamole and jack cheese and some bacon. They brought out my plate and I didn't have any bacon. I almost cried, but instead gave the pouty lip. Then I waited on our waitress and asked her if she could hook me up. Thankfully, the bacon crisis was over. I did actually eat two of the brownies mom made. I almost went for a third, but stopped. Bad Alessandra, one should have been enough!

Oh yeah, we got to see the Solar Eclipse! I'll post some good pictures of it. What a blast at the game tonight with my Wed night group, Mom, and Gabi. We had so much fun! The coaches got a little lively with the new ump. So much, that one was kicked out of the game!

            Today
B: Some bbq pulled pork, like a few handfuls
L: Gabby Burger (medium with jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, and guacamole) and side salad with vinegrette (I'm certain that had sugar in it)
S: rest of pork and some bbq'd turkey
D: Mom's AWESOME beef short ribs. I think I ate like 6 or 7. Who knows, they were just good. About 2 spoonfuls of the slaw, but then I attacked the salad she brought. She makes the same homemade dressing I do. 2 of the gluten free brownies. Several handfuls of sunflower seeds
Drinks: Water, unsweetened tea, and bad me, 1 1/2 bud light limes.................

Such a blast today! Let me get some pictures posted

                      • Looks like you guys were having fun. You, BTW, are looking beautiful. Fun to be doing things with your mom. Never had that experience. But then, I had a righteous dad:-) who was always rarin' to go!

Not to get you on another sugary thing, but maybe it wouldn't be as addicting. My youngest makes homemade ice cream with flavorings (her orange chili ice cream was the most amazing), coconut milk, and just a few dates. Not sure that's at all helpful, but dates are sweet -- and while not exactly primal -- they are a whole food. Just a thought.

                              • Another morning having a hard time getting out of bed, but that's because I went to bed so late. I almost slept in and didn't work out, but my mind over rode my body's request. The mind knew that the body wouldn't work right without at least 10 minutes of something.

Gabi had her final concert for 6th grade as a violinist. This is her final orchestra concert for a while. Next year is choir. Thank goodness, because I don't have to worry if she'll practice or not! She sings all the time So, we have a tradition with post concert time. I'm debating whether to keep it or not, but I did keep it tonight. I'm not sure how true they were to their word, but Orange Leaf had a gluten free and no sugar added chocolate fro yo. That, combined with blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, some walnuts, and coconut flakes (I'm sure those may have been slightly sweetened) made a tasty treat. I didn't want to go back for seconds and I managed to avoid craving my kids creation. Actually, all of the fro yo was gluten free tonight. So, I caved. I might need to find a new post concert tradition. We've been doing that since my brother was in orchestra.....
