    • Slacking on the posting the last two days, but I was sort of preoccupied yesterday evening taking care of some other stuff. I'm still battling the sugar issue right now. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all eyes and ears right now. Once again, since I didn't blog yesterday I'll probably miss some stuff. Taps my pointer finger on my chin, maybe I should use a paper journal to help this problem?

      Yesterday
B: 5 pcs bacon and some sauteed veggies
S: 1 small avocado, some strawberries and some macadamias
L: Leftover mom's brisket with some chimichurri sauce and salad
S: Dark chocolate chips, like 3 handfuls. Boulder Chips, Gluten Free Salt and Pepper, 1 serving size
D: Genoa Salami salad (said salami, chicken, mozz cheese, and slice pastrami with some vinegrette)
      S: Justin's Maple Almond butter
      Drinks: Water
Exercise: 10 min trainer Lower Body and Abs.

      Today
      B: 2 pcs bacon
S: 1 large avocado, 1 banana, and some macadamia
L: Leftover burgers from our camping trip and B.A.S. with homemade dressing, blueberries
S: 3 handfuls of dark chocolate chips, a slice of goat milk butter
D: Scallop piccata (mental note, it's not the same without capers , it's just not) Sliced and steamed zucchini
S: Oh, I messed up here too! Three wedges of some form of quesadilla with Lay's veggie dip. That veggie dip is good, so I need to find a recipe to make that I can actually eat and won't do damage. I really didn't need any of this either.
Drinks: Mostly water, but some unsweetened iced tea
      Exercise: 10 minute trainer cardio
OH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I forgot to add 2 packets of Justin's Nut Butter in Chocolate Hazelnut.

        • Have you ever tried going cold turkey on chocolate and sweets? Maybe a 7-day challenge to try to reset your tastebuds.

            • What beautiful pictures -- of you and the scenery. Makes me want to go there right now:-)

That sugar thing sounds hard. Sugar is funny around here. I periodically buy raw sugar, leave it unopened; then we open it for a guest for their tea or something; then it just gets hard and I throw it out and cycle begins again.

But, then, for me, there is cheese! On a "good" (read -- bad) day, you would not believe how much cheese I can go through. Well, maybe you would:-) if you liken it to sugar for you! Can you have Gabi hide it??? She'd probably get a kick out of that.

              • I could have her try that! Yes, I do understand the cheese thing. I've kind of taken to keeping it away for now. The cheese is easier to handle than the sugar, lol.

                • Two things I have found helpful for breaking with sugar:

A day or two of the Atkins Fat Fast (900 calories fat, 100 calories protein) completely wipes out the desire for sugars. Boring as can be, but it works.

A teaspoon of ascorbic acid (5000mg of vit C) in a shot glass of water is very helpful in stopping/delaying for several hours, sugar cravings (IF I can remember to do it- seems like when I am in the munchy mood, I turn off the reasoning part of my mind!).

                  • You know Sabine, I completely forgot that you recommended that to me before! We had the choice to leave work early today on our vacation time if we wanted, so I took advantage of that. When I go to grab lunch with Gabi at school, I'll grab some. Thanks for the reminder!

What sort of foods would you recommend for said fast? Like, what did you try? This weekend is going to be a bad weekend for that. I try to do something like that on the weekends only. Maybe next weekend?

                    • Here are some of my staples for when I do a Fat Fast:
                      liverwurst
pork rinds with mashed avocado or sour cream
                      heavy whipping cream
                      mascarpone cheese
                      brie
                      egg salad
                      macadamia nuts
                      chewy bacon
                      slices of kerrygold butter
small servings of Liquid Fat Bomb or
                      Bee's Candida Egg drink

I break it down to 5 200-calorie 'meals'. Definitely try to get two of your meals to be pork rinds/nuts/chewy bacon, because I found the hardest thing about this is the lack of CHEWING! Eat as slowly as you can, because 200 calories of fat can disappear VERY quickly. Drink plenty of water between meals to give your mouth something to do.

Energy-wise, I had no problems with getting through my day. The main challenge is that it is SO boring. I am used to meals being pleasurable. This, not so much.

                      • Oh, my kind will be happy about the pork rinds, lol! Okay, I've got to remember next weekend then to try this. In the meantime, I"ll give it a go with the ascorbic acid starting right after lunch.

                        • Ok, I went in a downward spiral today, but it's gonna be okay people. I decided that this evening I was going to have one last hurrah before going to battle with my sugar addiction. Two things I have learned about this battle: I need to eat more animal fat (per Mark's take on something and also per suggestion, if I remember correctly, from mr. Ecks) and I need support all the way. I'm going to try the ascorbic acid idea this week until I can get ready for next weekend. I'm also going to stay OUT of the chocolate aisle at Natural Grocers. Oh, it took quite a bit out of me to walk away because I love dark chocolate, but it's become like my gateway. Then I see the "gluten-free" candies and almost want to buy them. I don't, but sometimes it's a small miracle that I don't! Sometimes, just the smell of a brownie will set it off. I'm hoping that the fast next weekend will kickstart the move away. I did enjoy some cave time at Wildcat Bluff today. What a great hike! I was blessed with the sight of this tree. It sort of reminded me of a twisted old man when I looked at it. My first thought was, it's perfect for a tree house with the way the branches were set up.

                          Today
                          B: 3 slices bacon
S: I think about 5 packs of Justin's nut butters, assorted and the last handful of my dark chocolate chips
L: Jason's deli BLT, hold the bread (I did get that right) with a cup of fruit on the side. Ate the dip. Gonna request no dip next time
S: One more of the nut butters and some brazil nuts. I think I may have over done my phytate intake. oops! One small red delicious apple
D: Tried the Chicken Kiev recipe from Mark's daily apple blog post from a few weeks back. Uhm, I need to work on my chicken smashing skills. Also, I think I snacked on the butter, but it's butter, so I don't feel too bad about that. It was so tasty! Roasted up some asparagus. YUM!
Dessert: Oh snap son! I went all out with a Tall of the Mocha Coconut Frappucino from Starbucks at Barnes and Noble
Drinks: Mostly water except my dessert
Exercise: 10 minute trainer Abs and Lower Body. Hiked out at Wildcat Bluff for about 90 minutes.

I'll post pictures from my hike later. I finally got a picture of a bee on one of the wildflowers. I haven't seen this one before, so if someone will I.D. it for me when I post, that would be greatly appreciated!

Tomorrow night is ladies night for my Sunday small group. We're going to get Mexican and it's right by my place! I'm already trying to figure out what I want and stick with it. Nothing fried! Not even my favorite, fried ice cream.......... I will NOT order that tomorrow night.

                          • Oh, those last hurrahs! So dangerous.
Have you read DeMuralist's quote, something like: "if you got a speeding ticket, would you drive crazy for the rest of the day?". Very apt, and yet, when I eat something I shouldn't, my first reaction is, oh, well, might as well have EVERYTHING else and start over tomorrow. A very tricky mindset to get away from.
Fried ice cream! There was a place here in town (luckily for me, no more) that did a fabulous one, coated in chopped nuts and decorated with honey. Oh my goodness, it was heavenly! Haven't had it in at least ten years. (And yet I am still fat! Where's the justice?!)

                            • I almost wouldn't suggest a fast until you have gotten off sugar. With your body still in a state of being a sugar burner and not quite yet a fat burner it could almost be unhealthy- your body isn't in a state where it'll recognize fat as a source of fuel. Instead it'll search your blood for sugar then you'll likely get a headache and give up when the blood sugar depletes. What I would suggest before getting any further with fasts is 3 months on high fat high protein before even trying a fast. Fasts after that are much more effective because the leptin hormone in your fat will actually be able to make it to your brain without being stopped by the insulin your body is making to deal with all of the sugar.

                              • It's called a Fat Fast, but I don't consider it a 'fast' because you are eating (1,000 calories, not a real day's worth of calories, but still, it's a respectable amount) and frequently- 4 or 5 times per day is the recommendation. Its main purpose on the Atkins plan is to get you into ketosis/crush your sugar cravings.
(Hi, Ecks. Hope you are doing okay.)
