  • Alessandra,

The NC Board of Dietetics and Nutrition charges that the blogger was practicing nutrition without a license. What is happening?!
No fruits and veggies in school, no Paleo on the internet...it's like they are purposely TRYING to keep us sick. ARGH!

(sorry for butting into your conversation...this just gets under my skin!)

    • "practising nutrition without a licence"? Oh my... Is that actually a crime on the books?

They didn't use the actual words "practising nutrition" did they? That would more or less make it illegal to eat.

Back in the day, my son's kindergarten teacher disallowed applesauce because of the sugar content (I was sending sugar-free), but granola bars were okay... Even chocolate-coated ones. And people wondered why I home-schooled. Well, that wasn't the reason in and of itself, but how on earth are you supposed to teach kids to think in that kind of environment?

Alessandra, anybody who put garlic in capital letters is a friend of mine.

      • Pam, I have no problem whatsoever with you posting about this on my journal. Practicing nutrition? I'll have to read the article. I'd take that to me that they were an unlicensed nutritionist? I'm definitely going to have to read this article.

Judg, it's still a battle with Gabi to get her to eat what she should be eating. I do what I can, but she won't completely dive in right now. There are days when she's all set to go, then there are days when she's not. I thought this would be much easier with her, but I am clearly wrong!

P.S. Garlic has got to be my favorite food!

        • I just finished reading the article on the blogger. Crap, total crap. I can see where the Board is coming from, but I'm bothered that this woman would be so much of a punk as to hide behind the Board like that. This is a clear case of feeling superior and power being in the wrong hands. Had she been any decent sort of human being, one with an open mind, he wouldn't be going through this. Ugh, close minds only do more damage!

          • SUGAR CRAVING! Help, someone? I already fell to the trap of M&M's earlier. Why is this happening?

            • Sleep, glorious sleep! Another night of peaceful log like sleep last night. I know what my stressor is in that area so I can now walk away from it. I might just need some encouragement from you guys though Guess what we talked about in my small group tonight? That's right, community and encouraging one another I really needed class tonight and I'm glad that we're forming a good bond. I'm also happy to have this journal and get encouragement here! Only, I did cave to the sugar craving. One cookie and some M&M's earlier. I thought I had my fats covered for the day, but I guess not? I found a recipe on here for some blueberry "candy" that Mark has. I just need a dehydrater, unless someone else has a better way for me to do that without one?

After the fuss over the snack issue at Gabi's school, she ended up leaving her snacks in my truck this morning! I called Mom as soon as I realized what happened and my Mom saved the day! Gabi said that the test turned out to be much easier than the simulated tests were. Thank goodness! No breakdown today

B: 2 slices bacon, 2 egg omelette with sauteed spinach
S: Mixed berries and one medium avacado
L: 2 leftover buffalo burgers, leftover steamed squash, and salad with homemade dressing
S: .....cheese...sooooo...goood... Then the M&M attack. I don't know what happened here. I just wanted some chocolate and there was no more of the Lindt. I snapped, that's all there was to it. I was in the M&M zone and couldn't see a way until the last one in the trail mix was gone. I wanted to stop, but I couldn't. I actually made myself a little sick!
D: Lemony chicken piccata with roasted PURPLE carrots. Yes, the carrots were delicious
S: Some applesauce cheese things from small group, like two of them. Maybe this is where the sweet craving came from? I don't know. But I had a cookie earlier too.... I don't know what happened to me tonight

              Drinks: Water and Coconut milk

              • Alessandra...today is done. It can't be changed. Learn from the experience & move on. Remember this isn't a "diet"...its a lifestyle change. And you are newer at this than some of the rest of us...slip ups happen. Don't beat yourself up about it, it just happens. And will happen again more than likely! Try to figure out what the trigger was & think about what you might be able to do differently next time. Tomorrow is a brand new day with a clean slate!!!

You're doing great! Keep up the good work!

                • Alessandra, I have found that a teaspoon of ascorbic acid (5,000mg of vit C) in a shot glass of water is a sugar-craving buster. Takes about fifteen minutes to work for me. I can usually walk away from the sugar for that long, and when I get back, no more craving. Sometimes it lasts all day, sometimes just a few hours. But I figure some extra vitamin C can't hurt much.

                  • I had an interesting realization yesterday about my insane sweet cravings, I was eating quite a few things with raw honey, stevia, and coconut crystals and as time went along I was craving more and more sweets, so I backed off on those but it didn't help. Then It dawned on me that my sweet cravings were in direct correlation with my lack of green veggies!! Not all veggies but green ones like kale, broccoli, brussels, celry etc. As soon as I added those poof sugar cravings gone. Wow~that was an eye opener!

                    • Well, I tried something different this morning to see if I could keep the sweet attack at bay, but then I craving for bread stuff this afternoon! Ugh. Right now, I've got some almond crackers cooking up. We've got a charity dinner thing to go to and I don't want to cave to bread tonight cause I've already had some seasame sticks and goldfish. This stuff has got to be removed from my house.

                      • I noticed a recipe for pizza crust on MDA. Somebody in the comments said they made it into bread sticks. It's grain-free (coconut flour and flax meal). You might want to look into it to give you a nice substitute. I'm planning on trying it.

                        • Thank you Judg for the suggestion! Phew! What a night Gabi and I had a blast at the charity dinner. I got to actually teach her how to two step while we listened to The Lost Trailers. No, they didn't play any of their old stuff while we were still there Oh well, she had a blast! She says her legs hurt now, lol. Poor kid, wait till I teach her how to waltz!

So, it turns out that I didn't need the almond crackers, but those things are so good that I eat them anyway. Dinner was prime rib! Yeah, I said prime rib. Let me say that again PRIME RIB! Coor Cowboy Cooks hosted the dinner tonight. I thought my eyes were deceiving me at first and maybe they were just overly thick slices of brisket until I got closer. Best thing ever! I would like to thank my work for getting our table tonight I did split a baked potato with Gabi, of which I ate about half of that. They had salad and dressings. I know my dressing probably had some sugar in it. I asked them to load me up with some tomatoes, but I got like 5. Oh well, can't be too much of a punk!

                          • Yesterday turned out to be fun too I skipped out on working out because I kind of wanted a day off. I was kind of worried I might not be awake enough at work because of it, but that all turned out ok. I had a busy and productive day at work. The fun was after work though. I celebrated a friends 30 birthday with her and a group of friends. We went to a sushi bar and I thought I was going to try some sushi, but I ended up getting the Korean short ribs and mashed ginger sweet potatoes. Both were good along with some ginger peach tea, unsweetened. I know there was soy in the short ribs, but I hardly every eat anything with soy. Good food last night! Now to find a way to make those without the soy We went to a comedy show last night and had a blast! I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.... Afterwards, I was sort of still awake and wanted to burn some energy off, so I went out to catch some live music via Aaron Watson and his band. I did have a beer, but only one this time. I think I have found a new musician to be in love with, the fiddler from the band. AMAZING! I danced like maybe twice last night and made some new aquaintances. Since I don't have beach volleyball to meet new people with, two stepping is the next best thing,

B: 3 slices bacon, sauteed peppers and onions, some brisket
S: Mixed berries and mixture of walnuts and pecans
L: Big ass salad! Homemade dressing
S: 4 almond crackers and some goat milk butter (that stuff is slowly but surely growing on me). Handful of walnuts with goat milk butter melted and a pinch of salt. Some parm cheese, just straight, with nothing else
D: Korean short ribs, mashed ginger sweet potatoes

Drinks: Water, coconut milk, bud light lime, wine (had some of this at home before bed)

Today, I think I'm going to IF for as long as I can. My stomach has been acting up, so I'm giving it a break for most of the day. I don't plan on doing a whole lot. Just going to go down to the local dirt airfield for their open house to get some pictures of their planes and maybe stay for the flour bombing thing this time. I wonder how many will hit the target I'll post pictures later. Later, I get to take Gabi shopping for a formal dress for her friends 13th birthday/going away party. This is going to be fun.... I hope all of you have a good day!
